A physical model describing the I(V) characteristics of planar limiting current oxygen sensors based in an ion-conducting electrolyte is presented. The model focuses on the minimization of the electrochemical potential and the diffusion across a porous layer covering the measuring electrode. The proposed model describes three key phenomena in the response of the sensors: the influence of the polarization resistance on the slope of I(V), the linearity between the limiting current and the diffusivity of the porous layer and a low non-zero current at zero polarization. 相似文献

Virtual Worlds (VW), such as Massive Multiplayer Online Social Games, have been gaining increasing attention in the last few
years, mainly due to the new way users interact with them. However, little effort has been devoted to understand their traffic
profile and the implications to the traffic management area. With the current growing rate of VWs’ usage, their traffic demand
could eventually impose a significant burden on the operation of a typical Internet Service Provider (ISP) network. In this
paper, we seek to understand the traffic behavior of an increasingly popular VW application, namely Second Life (SL), from
both the connection and network level perspectives. We also show results of a traffic analysis of a SL client, when an avatar
performs different actions in the VW, at different places and under different network conditions. Our results show that SL
makes intensive use of network resources (mostly bandwidth), since the capacity needed for having a full SL experience (listening
to live music) may reach 500 kbps. We then extend the traffic analysis work on SL by providing analytical models for its traffic
profile. We aim at helping the network management and planning area to estimate the impact of an intense use of such VW on
access links or core networks. Such synthetic models are also useful to the networking research community for the use in network

In this paper, the performance and durability of hybrid PEM fuel cell vehicles are investigated. To that end, a hybrid predictive controller is proposed to improve battery performance and to avoid fuel cell and battery degradation. Such controller deals with this complex control problem by handling binary and continuous variables, piecewise affine models and constraints. Moreover, the control strategy is to track motor power demand and keep batteries close to a desired battery state of charge which is appropriately chosen to minimize hydrogen consumption. It is important to highlight the consideration of constraints which are directly related to the goals of this paper, such as minimum fuel cell power threshold and time limitation between fuel cell startups and shutdowns. Furthermore, different models have been elaborated and particularized for a vehicle prototype. These models include few innovations such as a reference governor which smooths fuel cell power demand during sharp power profiles, forcing batteries to supply such peaks and resulting a longer fuel cell lifetime. Battery thermal dynamics are also taken into account in these models in order to analyze the effect of battery temperature on its degradation. Finally, this paper studies the feasibility of the real implementation, presenting an explicit formulation as a solution to reduce execution time. This explicit controller exhibits the same performance as the hybrid predictive controller does with a reduced computational effort. All the results have been validated in several simulations. 相似文献

This study was an unobtrusive observational analysis of 333 older and younger bus passengers in Guadalajara, Mexico. A set of data were collected for each observed passenger, as well as more general observations related to driver behaviour, bus design and bus service characteristics. There were significant differences between older and younger passengers in terms of boarding and alighting times, use of handrails, seat location preferences, passenger stability and coping strategies in order to maintain postural stability. The conditions of travel are conducive to a poor passenger experience for the older passengers in particular. Although the problems may be attributed to bus design and driver behaviour typical of that in developing countries, they are also influenced by the wider transport infrastructure, and a lack of a regulatory regime which places drivers under time pressure and in direct competition with each other.
Practitioner Summary: Bus services must cater for all ages of passengers, including the elderly. This unobtrusive observational study investigated the passenger experience in a developing world city. Bus and wider service design were found to compromise the journey experience, with the older users being particularly negatively impacted. Design recommendations are provided. 相似文献

We compared hyperspectral imagery and single-wavelength airborne bathymetric light detection and ranging (lidar) for shallow water (<2 m) bathymetry and seagrass mapping. Both the bathymetric results from hyperspectral imagery and airborne bathymetric lidar reveal that the presence of a strongly reflecting benthic layer under seagrass affects the elevation estimates towards the bottom depth instead of the top of seagrass canopy. Full waveform lidar was also investigated for bathymetry and similar performance to discrete lidar was observed. A provisional classification was performed with limited ground reference samples and four supervised classifiers were applied in the study to investigate the capability of airborne bathymetric lidar and hyperspectral imagery to identify seagrass genera. The overall classification accuracy is highly variable and strongly dependent on the classification strategy used. Features from bathymetric lidar alone are not sufficient for substrate classification, while hyperspectral imagery alone showed significant capability for substrate classification with over 95% overall accuracy. The fusion of hyperspectral imagery and bathymetric lidar only marginally improved the overall accuracy of seagrass classification. 相似文献

The choice of the best interpolation algorithm of data gathered at a finite number of locations has been a persistently relevant topic. Typical papers take a single data set, a single set of data points, and a handful of algorithms. The process considers a subset I of the data points as known, builds the interpolant with each algorithm, applies it to the points of another subset C, and evaluates the MAE (mean absolute error), the RMSE (root mean square error), or any other metric over such points. The less these statistics are, the better the algorithm is, so a deterministic ranking between methods (without confidence level) can be derived based upon it. Ties between methods are usually not considered. In this article a complete protocol is proposed in order to build, with a modest additional effort, a ranking with a confidence level. To illustrate this point, the results of two tests are shown. In the first one, a simple Monte Carlo experiment was devised using irregularly distributed points taken from a reference DEM (digital elevation model) in raster format. Different metrics led to different rankings, suggesting that the choice of the metric to define the ‘best interpolation algorithm’ would need a trade-off. The second experiment used mean daily radiation data from an international interpolation comparison exercise and RMSE as the metric of success. Only five simple interpolation methods were employed. The ranking using this protocol anticipated correctly the first and second place, afterwards confirmed employing independent control data. 相似文献

Relational learning algorithms mine complex databases for interesting patterns. Usually, the search space of patterns grows very quickly with the increase in data size, making it impractical to solve important problems. In this work we present the design of a relational learning system, that takes advantage of graphics processing units (GPUs) to perform the most time consuming function of the learner, rule coverage. To evaluate performance, we use four applications: a widely used relational learning benchmark for predicting carcinogenesis in rodents, an application in chemo-informatics, an application in opinion mining, and an application in mining health record data. We compare results using a single and multiple CPUs in a multicore host and using the GPU version. Results show that the GPU version of the learner is up to eight times faster than the best CPU version. 相似文献

Deduplication is the task of identifying the entities in a data set which refer to the same real world object. Over the last decades, this problem has been largely investigated and many techniques have been proposed to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the deduplication algorithms. As data sets become larger, such algorithms may generate critical bottlenecks regarding memory usage and execution time. In this context, cloud computing environments have been used for scaling out data quality algorithms. In this paper, we investigate the efficacy of different machine learning techniques for scaling out virtual clusters for the execution of deduplication algorithms under predefined time restrictions. We also propose specific heuristics (Best Performing Allocation, Probabilistic Best Performing Allocation, Tunable Allocation, Adaptive Allocation and Sliced Training Data) which, together with the machine learning techniques, are able to tune the virtual cluster estimations as demands fluctuate over time. The experiments we have carried out using multiple scale data sets have provided many insights regarding the adequacy of the considered machine learning algorithms and proposed heuristics for tackling cloud computing provisioning. 相似文献

In the context of fault detection and isolation of linear parameter‐varying systems, a challenging task appears when the dynamics and the available measurements render the model unobservable, which invalidates the use of standard set‐valued observers. Two results are obtained in this paper, namely, using a left‐coprime factorization, one can achieve set‐valued estimates with ultimately bounded hyper‐volume and convergence dependent on the slowest unobservable mode; and by rewriting the set‐valued observer equations and taking advantage of a coprime factorization, it is possible to have a low‐complexity fault detection and isolation method.
