Quantitative detection of gold nanoparticles on individual, unstained cancer cells by scanning electron microscopy

Gold nanoparticles are rapidly emerging for use in biomedical applications. Characterization of the interaction and delivery of nanoparticles to cells through microscopy is important. Scanning electron microscopes have the intrinsic resolution to visualize gold nanoparticles on cells. A novel sample preparation protocol was developed to enable imaging of cells and gold nanoparticles with a conventional below lens scanning electron microscopes. The negative influence of 'charging' on the quality of scanning electron microscopes' images could be limited by deposition of biological cells on a conductive (gold) surface. The novel protocol enabled high-resolution scanning electron microscopes' imaging of small clusters and individual gold nanoparticles on uncoated cell surfaces. Gold nanoparticles could be counted on cancer cells with automated routines.     

Die überstromziffer und ihre Bedeutung für die Beurteilung und Vorausberechnung der Stromwandler

Zusammenfassung Auf Grund einfacher Betrachtungen über die Fehlergrö\en wird gezeigt, da\ die überstromziffer eines gegebenen Stromwandlers durch die Wandlerdaten und die Magnetisierungslinien des Wandlereisens vollkommen bestimmt und leicht zu ermitteln ist. Ferner wird gezeigt, da\ es möglich ist, einen Wandler in seinen wichtigsten Grö\en vorauszuberechnen, wenn die Magnetisierungslinien und die gewünschte überstromziffer gegeben sind und gewisse naheliegende Annahmen über den Verlauf der Kurve des maximalen Stromfehlers zugrunde gelegt werden. Das entwickelte Verfahren wird an mehreren Rechnungsbeispielen erläutert.

Zusammenfassung Die beschriebene Me\anordnung gestattet, den Integralwert eines beliebigen. Kurvenverlaufes zu messen. Die für die jeweilige Ordinate der Kurven ma\gebenden Grö\en, z. B. Druck, Geschwindigkeit usw. werden vermittels eines verÄnderlichen Widerstandes in verhÄltnisgleiche Leitwerte umgesetzt. Der jeweilige Leitwert des Widerstandes ist bestimmend für die Geschwindigkeit der Teilentladung eines Kondensators. Die Summe der aufeinanderfolgenden Ladungs- bzw. Entladungsstö\e innerhalb einer gewissen Zeit gibt ein Ma\ für den Integralwert des Vorganges wÄhrend derselben Zeit. Die mittlere sekundliche Wechselzahl bestimmt den Mittelwert des Verlaufes. Die Anlegung einer zeitabhÄngigen Betriebsspannung an den Kondensatorkreis ermöglicht eine Kompensation des ursprünglich zeitbedingten Charakters der Ergebnisse und lÄ\t sonach auch die Integration zeitunabhÄngiger KurvenverlÄufe zu. Eine überlagung der resultierenden Frequenz bzw. Spannung mit anderen Einflu\grö\en bietet die Möglichkeit der Messung von VorgÄngen, die von mehreren Faktoren bestimmt sind.

Simulating the spread of opinions in online social networks when targeting opinion leaders

An increasing number of people are joining online social networks. By interacting with each other, network members influence one another’s opinion. These influencing effects can be utilized by marketing. A wave of influence can be triggered by addressing only a few opinion leaders in the network. Targeting the right opinion leaders is a big challenge. This paper presents a new approach which simulates the spread of opinions when influencing certain opinion leaders. In contrast to other approaches, the influencing effects are not assumed but revealed by real data. The principles of opinion formation are detected by ant mining algorithms before they are applied to simulate the spread of opinions. The approach is applied to an online gaming community and provides valuable insights for marketing.     

Experimental-numerical study and optimization of sound insulation of a finite composite cylinder

The aircraft fuselage is idealized as a composite cylinder, its vibroacoustic properties are studied both experimentally and numerically, and a minimization of the inner pressure of a composite cylinder is conducted with the genetic algorithm (GA). In the optimization, the Acoustic Transfer Vector (ATV), which comes from the boundary element method, builds the relationship between the structural surface velocity and the sound pressure at the specific filed points. Results show that the noise reduction obtained by the experimental and numerical methods have a good agreement; the optimization method which combines GA and ATV show high efficiency and robustness; increase of the bending stiffness of the cylinder can improve the noise reduction at low frequencies; both the reduction of weight and the increase of noise insulation can be achieved by the optimization of the layup at different regions of the cylinder individually.
