ABSTRACTA convergence enhancement technique known as the integral balance approach is employed in combination with the Generalized Integral Transform Technique (GITT) for solving diffusion or convection-diffusion problems in physical domains with subregions of markedly different materials properties and/or spatial scales. GITT is employed in the solution of the differential eigenvalue problem with space variable coefficients, by adopting simpler auxiliary eigenproblems for the eigenfunction representation. The examples provided deal with heat conduction in heterogeneous media and forced convection in a microchannel embedded in a substrate. The convergence characteristics of the proposed novel solution are critically compared against the conventional approach through integral transforms without the integral balance enhancement, with the aid of fully converged results from the available exact solutions. 相似文献

In the last years, there has been an increase in the production, industrialization and consumption of goat's milk and derivate products, including cheese, worldwide. Nevertheless, in Costa Rica there is no study of these products, reason why the objective of this work was to determine the microbiological characteristics of goat's milk and fresh cheese distributed in the Metropolitan Area of San José, Costa Rica, in order to evaluate its impact in the economical field and as a potential risk for Public Health. A total of 25 raw goat's milk samples, obtained by manual milking from 5 different producers tested in five different dates and 15 cheese samples, elaborated with pasteurized milk, commercially available and coming from three different producers were analyzed. The study included the analysis of spoilage bacteria (total aeobic count and lactic bacteria count), indicators of hygiene (total coliforms), fecal contamination (fecal coliforms), manipulation (Staphylococcus aureus) and pathogens (Listeria monocytogenes and Salmonella spp). High results were obtained for the total aerobic count and lactic bacteria count of the milk and cheese samples, showing a reduced shelf life. Total coliforms, in limits beyond the established ones by the Costa Rican legislation for human consumption raw milk, were found in 100% of milk samples, as well as for fecal coliforms in 76% of them. All cheese samples, except one, were negative for these indicators, suggesting good manufacturing practices. S. aureus counts were low and both Salmonella spp. and L. monocytogenes were not isolated from samples analyzed. 相似文献

Standing square-wave chronoamperometry (SSWCA) was applied to the analysis of the microfluid flow generated by the movement of the appendages of the Crustacea Daphnia. This novel approach provided for the first time real-time assessment and analysis of the breathing rate/fluid flow of individual organisms. An electrochemical tracer was delivered into the fluid inflow of the organism and a carbon fiber microelectrode placed in the fluid outflow's path. The variation of the net concentration/flux of the electroactive tracer, dopamine, at the electrode surface was measured with SSWCA. The observed chronoamperometric peaks (with fine structure) of the outflow are seen as a direct representation of appendage movement and, too, the workings and responses of the organism to its environment, e.g., external stimuli such as food or chemicals. It was concluded that SSWCA follows primarily the variation of the convective component of the Nernst-Plank equation for flux and, to lesser extent, diffusion and migration. In this work, SSWCA can clearly be used to monitor changes in the Daphnia-generated fluid outflow on a different time scale than was previously possible. The aim of this study was to analyze the influence of different crop sequences (soybean-corn and soybean?Csoybean) and tillage systems (no tillage and reduced tillage) on nitrous oxide (N2O) soil emissions under field conditions. The experiment was carried out in Manfredi, Córdoba province, Argentina on an Entic Haplustoll and N2O emissions were measured in the field during a year. N2O fluxes were low during winter, but in late spring it peaked. For fallow, N-NO3-content was the most important variable to explain N2O emissions. For growing period water-filled pores was the main variable explaining N2O emissions. Nitrogen fertilization of corn crop increased N2O-N emissions, whereas no significant differences were found due to the tillage system. Measured annual N2O-N emissions were generally lower than those calculated using the methodology proposed by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. 相似文献

The main objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of incorporating polyphenolic‐enriched fractions from murta leaves on the oxidative stability of linseed oil microencapsulated by spray drying. For this purpose, polyphenol‐enriched fractions from murta leaves were separated by gel permeation chromatography and chemically characterized. The oxidative stability of microencapsulated linseed oil (MLO) with antioxidants was evaluated in storage conditions at 25°C for 40 days. The antioxidant effects of the polyphenolic fractions and commercial antioxidants (BHT and trolox) on microencapsulated oil were evaluated by the value of conjugated dienes, peroxide, and p‐anisidine. In the initiation step of the oxidation, no significant oxidation delay (p>0.05) in MLO containing fractions F6, F8, or BHT and trolox was observed. However, in the termination step of the oxidation, the addition of fractions F6, F8, and BHT and trolox decreases significantly (p ≤ 0.05) the rancidity in MLO. Furthermore, the results of this study demonstrated the importance of the addition of natural antioxidants such as fractions of murta leaf extract in microencapsulated linseed oil to increase its resistance to oxidation. Practical applications: For incorporating linseed oil, a source of omega‐3 fatty acids, in the diet it is necessary to protect it against oxidative rancidity, the main cause of deterioration that affects food with a high unsaturated fat content. Microencapsulation is effective in retarding or suppressing the oxidation of unsaturated fatty acids and natural plants extracts are effective in inhibiting the lipid oxidation of microencapsulated oil. The use of process technology and a natural additive is expected to increase storage stability and enable its use in dry foods such as instant products. Linseed oil can be used in human nutrition as well as in animal feed as a replacement for fish oil. 相似文献

Several explanations have been proposed to understand the existence of nested subset patterns in biological communities, including selective extinction, differential colonization, nested species-habitat relationships, random placement from a common species pool, and human disturbance. We study if songbird assemblages inhabiting urban parks in the Puebla-Cholula Metropolitan Area (Mexico, an urbanizing country) exhibit a nested subset pattern, and apply information-theoretic (IT) methods to rank the likelihood of the abovementioned processes as competing hypotheses explaining nestedness. A total of 21 study sites were considered, where 38 Passeriformes species were retained for nestedness analyses (13 species with preferences for forest habitats, and 25 for non-forest habitats). Neither the number of species per site nor the number of sites per species followed expectations from the random placement hypothesis. In addition, using the NODF index for measuring nestedness and different null models for generating random matrices, we found that songbird assemblages inhabiting urban parks were significantly more nested than expected. The IT approaches we followed evidenced that the two most important ecological processes promoting nestedness were selective extinction and human disturbance: site richness orderly increased according to area, and decreased according to background noise levels. Results are discussed taking into account habitat-related sound degradation and transmission properties, and differential susceptibility to anthropogenic noise among songbirds with preferences for forest versus non-forest habitats. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time that noise pollution, a pervasive kind of human disturbance in modern cities, is acknowledged as a factor promoting nestedness in bird communities. 相似文献

The ability of galacto-oligosaccharides (GOS) to protect Lactobacillus delbrueckii subsp. bulgaricus upon freeze drying was analyzed on the basis of their capacity to form glassy structures. Glass transition temperatures (T(g)) of a GOS matrix at various relative humidities (RH) were determined by DSC. Survival of L. bulgaricus in a glassy GOS matrix was investigated after freezing, freeze drying, equilibration at different RHs and storage at different temperatures. At 32 °C, a drastic viability loss was observed. At 20 °C, the survival was affected by the water content, having the samples stored at lower RHs, the highest survival percentages. At 4°C, no decay in the cells count was observed after 45 days of storage. The correlation between molecular mobility [as measured by Proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR)] and loss of viability explained the efficiency of GOS as cryoprotectants. The preservation of microorganisms was improved at low molecular mobility and this condition was obtained at low water contents and low storage temperatures. These results are important in the developing of new functional foods containing pre and probiotics. 相似文献

The encapsulation of enterocins synthesized by Enterococcus faecium CRL1385 through ionic gelation with calcium ions was analyzed. Different enterocins samples were lyophilised and encapsulated using low-methoxyl pectin as the coating material. Lipids present in milk butter were also added to control the release of antimicrobial peptides from the capsules. The morphology of fresh and freeze-dried capsules was examined using light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy, respectively. Antimicrobial activity of encapsulated bacteriocins was assessed against Listeria monocytogenes 01/155 using the agar diffusion technique and direct contact in microplates. The capsules with higher lipid content showed a more spherical and uniform shape. Pathogen inhibition was observed for capsules prepared with different bacteriocin solutions both on solid (halo diameter = 8.5–13.5 mm) and in an aqueous medium (ca. 2 log orders decline in L. monocytogenes viability). The outcomes suggest that bacteriocin encapsulation through ionic gelation can be a potential alternative for the application of these antimicrobial peptides as biopreservatives in food. 相似文献

In this work we compared 2 official methods for the determination of HMF in honey, the spectrophotometric White method and the HPLC method (International Honey Commission) for the determination of HMF in unifloral honey and honeydew samples with a very low HMF content (<4 mg/kg), which is the most critical determination in terms of accuracy and precision of methods. In honey solutions, the limits of quantification for HPLC and White methods are 0.83 mg/L and 0.67 mg/L, respectively, and the linearity range is confirmed up to 20 mg/L for the HPLC method and up to 5 mg/L for the White method. In honeys with HMF >5 mg/kg, the molar extinction coefficient is 15369, lower than the literature value of 16830, and should be used for HMF determination. For samples with HMF content in the range 1-4 mg/kg the accuracy of the 2 methods is comparable both for unifloral and honeydew samples, whereas as regards precision, the HPLC method gives better results (3.5% compared with 6.4% for the White method). So, in general, the HPLC method seems to be more appropriate for the determination of HMF in honey in the range 1-4 mg/kg thanks to its greater precision, but for samples with a HMF content of less than 1 mg/kg the analyses are inaccurate for both methods. PRACTICAL APPLICATION: This work can help governmental and private laboratories that perform food analyses to choose the best method for the determination of HMF at very low levels in unifloral honey and honeydew samples. 相似文献
