ABSTRACTA convergence enhancement technique known as the integral balance approach is employed in combination with the Generalized Integral Transform Technique (GITT) for solving diffusion or convection-diffusion problems in physical domains with subregions of markedly different materials properties and/or spatial scales. GITT is employed in the solution of the differential eigenvalue problem with space variable coefficients, by adopting simpler auxiliary eigenproblems for the eigenfunction representation. The examples provided deal with heat conduction in heterogeneous media and forced convection in a microchannel embedded in a substrate. The convergence characteristics of the proposed novel solution are critically compared against the conventional approach through integral transforms without the integral balance enhancement, with the aid of fully converged results from the available exact solutions. 相似文献

Knowing the probability of occurrence of a flood event is an important issue for water resources planning. At‐site probability models require a long extension of hydrological data for robust estimation of low‐frequency events. As the mean record length of 25 gauge stations in western river basins of Argentina is 49 years (until 2010), regional models are an interesting tool to determine mountain rivers system dynamics. This study aims to estimate low‐frequency quantiles of annual maximum flow in Argentinean western river basins (28°S–37°S) applying regional frequency analysis based on the L‐moments method. Besides, mean annual maximum flow of 75 gauge stations (22°S–52°S) was analysed. First, an exploratory data analysis was performed; normality, independence, and randomness were accepted in the 27%, 87%, and 91% of cases, respectively. Increasing trends in annual maximum flows in the north‐western and central‐western rivers of Argentina were detected, whereas decreasing trends in annual maximum flow in the Patagonian Andes were identified. Base on at‐site characteristics and at‐site statistics, a homogeneous region of 12 stations with a record period of 568 years was formed. General extreme value was the most appropriate distribution for this homogeneous study region. Estimation accuracy using Monte Carlo simulations was performed. The error bounds were set at 90%, the mean square error was 9.23%, and the relative bias was 1.6%. The regional method performed better than the at‐site estimation. 相似文献

Tylosin is one of the most commonly used antimicrobial drugs from the macrolide family and in broiler chickens it is used specially for the treatment of infectious pathologies. The poultry industry produces several by-products, among which feathers account for up to 7% of a chicken’s live weight, thus they amount to a substantial mass across the whole industry. Feathers have been repurposed as an animal feed ingredient by making them feather meal. Therefore, the presence of high concentrations of residues from antimicrobial drugs in feathers might pose a risk to global public health, due to re-entry of these residues into the food chain. This work aimed to characterise the depletion behaviour of tylosin in feather samples, while considering its depletion in muscle and liver tissue samples as a reference point. To achieve this goal, we have implemented and validated an analytical methodology suitable for detecting and quantifying tylosin in these matrices. Sixty broiler chickens, raised under controlled conditions, received an oral dose of 32 mg kg-1 of tylosin for 5 days. Tylosin was quantified in muscle, liver and feathers by liquid chromatography coupled with a photodiode array detector (HPLC-DAD). High concentrations of tylosin were detected in feather samples over the whole experimental period after completing both the therapy and the recommended withdrawal time (WDT). On the other hand, tylosin concentrations in muscle and liver tissue samples fell below the limit of detection of this method on the first sampling day. Our results indicate that the WDT for feather samples is 27 days, hence using feather meal for the formulation of animal diets or for other agricultural purposes could contaminate with antimicrobial residues either other livestock species or the environment. In consequence, we recommend monitoring this matrix when birds have been treated with tylosin, within the context of poultry farming. 相似文献

The effectiveness of Cr(VI)-based passivation treatments is well accepted but there are many problems with regard to their environmental suitability. Because these compounds are carcinogenic and toxic, eco-friendly systems capable of replacing them are being evaluated. In this work, the corrosion behavior in 0.5 M NaCl solution of zinc coatings deposited from a free-cyanide alkaline bath and treated with Cr3+ based passivation coatings were characterized through DC and EIS techniques. The salt spray test as well as studies of the surface structure and chemical composition were also performed. From these analyses it was inferred that (1) the green-colored Cr3+ passivated coatings provide better corrosion resistance than the yellow- and blue-colored coatings, and (2) together with an adequate painting system, they could be a less polluting and less toxic alternative to traditional chromate coatings. 相似文献

Tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α is a pleiotropic cytokine implicated in the etiology of several autoimmune diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis (RA). TNF-α regulates diverse effector functions through the activation of TNF-α receptor (TNFR)1 and TNFR2. Although the detrimental role of this cytokine has been addressed in distinct disease settings, the effects of TNF-α on cytokine production by isolated CD4+ T helper type 1 (Th1) and Th17 cells, two T cell subpopulations that contribute to the pathogenesis of RA, have not been completely elucidated. Here, we show that TNF-α promotes a reduction and expansion in the frequency of both T cell subsets producing IFN-γ and IL-17, respectively. Selective blockade of TNFR1 or TNFR2 on Th1 and Th17 cells revealed that TNFR2 mediates the decrease in IFN-γ production, while signaling through both receptors augments IL-17 production. We also demonstrate that Th1, but not Th17 cells from RA patients present lower levels of TNFR1 compared to healthy controls, whereas TNFR2 expression on both T cell types is similar between patients and controls. Since TNF-α receptors levels in RA patients are not significantly changed by the therapeutic blockade of TNF-α, we propose that targeting TNFR2 may represent an alternative strategy to normalize the levels of key cytokines that contribute to RA pathogenesis. 相似文献

This paper presents a study of the precipitation of ZnO and CuO crystals during the sintering of Cu-doped Ni-Zn ferrites. The nature of the Zn- and Cu-containing crystal precipitates was determined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis, X-ray diffraction (XRD), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The influence of the dry relative density of the body and the cooling rate on the occurring precipitates was also studied. Two consecutive chemical reactions are put forward, which explain the bulk precipitation of the zinc and copper oxides in the specimen during sintering, and their re-dissolution during cooling. 相似文献

Novel ionic liquids and organic salts based on mono- or dianionic zoledronate and protonated superbases, choline and n-alkylmethylimidazolium cations, were prepared and characterized by spectroscopic and thermal analyses. Most of the prepared salts display amorphous structures and very high solubility in water and saline solutions, especially the dianionic salts. Among the zoledronate-based ionic compounds, those containing choline [Ch] and methoxyethylmethylimidazolium [C3OMIM] cations appear to have significant cytotoxicity against human osteosarcoma cells (MG63) and low toxicity toward healthy skin fibroblast cells. Because osteosarcoma is a bone pathology characterized by an increase in bone turnover rate, the results presented herein may be a promising starting point for the development of new ionic pharmaceutical drugs against osteosarcoma. 相似文献

Purpose: The present study evaluated the influence of the hyaluronic acid (HA) on the bonding ability of self-adhesive resin cements to dentin regarding the bond strength. Eighty bovine incisors were ground flat to obtain a 2-mm thick slices which received conical preparations. The specimens were randomly distributed into 4 groups (n = 15) according to the dentin pretreatment (1 – control: untreated dentin; 2 – application of HA) and the evaluation time (1 – control: immediate evaluation; 2 – hydrolytic degradation: 6 months of storage in water at 37 °C). Preparations received the application of a self-adhesive resin cement (RelyX U200 or MaxCem Elite). Push-out bond strength test was conducted (0.5 mm/min). The bond strength data was submitted to two-way ANOVA/Tukey’s test (α = 0.05). For U200, no significance was observed when comparing the immediate (24 h) and 6 months means for the control groups (unexposed specimens). Previous application of HA to dentin significantly reduced the bond strength of U200 to dentin in both evaluation times (p < 0.05). HA had no significant influence on the push-out bond strength means for the cement MAX in both evaluation times (p > 0.05). The type 1 failure mode (adhesive mode) occurred in 100% of the specimens, irrespective of the dentin treatment or evaluation times. Pretreatment of dentin with HA produces a material-dependent influence on the push-out bond strength. The bonding ability of RelyX U200 is negatively influenced by the pretreatment of dentin with HA, whereas the biomodification of dentin with this bioactive agent causes no impact for the cement MaxCem Elite. 相似文献

Linalool is a monoterpenoid used as a fragrance ingredient, and is a promising source for alternative fuels. Synthetic biology offers attractive alternative production methods compared to extraction from natural sources and chemical synthesis. Linalool/nerolidol synthase (bLinS) from Streptomyces clavuligerus is a bifunctional enzyme, producing linalool as well as the sesquiterpenoid nerolidol when expressed in engineered Escherichia coli harbouring a precursor terpenoid pathway such as the mevalonate (MVA) pathway. Here we identified two residues important for substrate selection by bLinS, L72 and V214, where the introduction of bulkier residues results in variants with reduced nerolidol formation. Terpenoid production using canonical precursor pathways is usually limited by numerous and highly regulated enzymatic steps. Here we compared the canonical MVA pathway to the non-canonical isopentenol utilization (IU) pathway to produce linalool using the optimised bLinS variant. The IU pathway uses isoprenol and prenol to produce linalool in only five steps. Adjusting substrate, plasmid system, inducer concentration, and cell strain directs the flux towards monoterpenoids. Our integrated approach, combining enzyme engineering with flux control using the artificial IU pathway, resulted in high purity production of the commercially attractive monoterpenoid linalool, and will guide future efforts towards efficient optimisation of terpenoid production in engineered microbes. 相似文献
