This study investigates the influence of carboxylic monomers, such as itaconic acid (IA), on the colloidal properties of the latexes made by semi-continuous emulsion copolymerization of styrene (STy) with n-butyl acrylate (BA). A number of copolymerization runs were carried out with different IA concentrations. The effect of functional monomer on the overall conversion, the colloidal properties of the latexes, and the distribution of the carboxylic groups (buried, particle surface and aqueous phase) were examined. The carboxylic groups present in the latexes were analyzed using conductimetric and potentiometric titrations. The behavior of the IA on the wet scrub resistance of highly pigmented paints for architectural coatings was examined and correlated with the distribution of the carboxylic groups. The results obtained showed that the properties of highly pigmented paints are greatly dependent on the amount and distribution of the carboxylic groups. The carboxylic acid distributed in the aqueous phase has a strong influence on the wet scrub resistance and on the characteristics of the final products.  相似文献

In this paper a new method for cleaning of filter media is presented, and the cleanability with different textures and surface finishes is compared. With the method described, it is possible to evaluate the quality of the cleaning process. According to the German VDMA standard cleaning test, riboflavin and malt extract are applied as model contaminants for evaluation of the cleaning results. To compare the cleanability of filter media with different properties and geometries the results are adapted to the law of mass transfer and to the Sherwood number, a dimensionless parameter describing the quality of a cleaning process.  相似文献

Newly designed gels for electrophoresis protein separation were synthesized from acrylamide, N,N′‐methylenebis (acrylamide) and dextran mixtures. Radical polymerization was initiated by ammonium persulfate and N,N,N′,N′‐tetramethylethylenediamine. The time dependence of absorbance during polymerization was monitored using UV‐visible spectroscopy. The exothermic polymerization process exhibited a sharp rise of temperature reminiscent of the Trommsdorff effect. The swelling kinetics of the synthesized gels was examined in deionized water and buffer solutions. One of the challenges was to find an alternative to commercial products, sold as mixtures with no detailed chemical contents, commonly used in sodium dodecylsulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS‐PAGE) for protein separation. For this reason, a systematic comparison was made of the properties of one of the most commonly used commercial gels, Duracryl? from Genomics Solution Inc., and those of the synthesized polyacrylamide/dextran gels. Equilibrium and isosteric heat of adsorption for the system of chloroform and USY-type zeolite were studied. The USY-type zeolite (PQ Co., SiO2/Al2O3=70) was used both as a pure crystalline powder and as granulated particles with binder. Chloroform was reagent grade. The adsorption equilibria were measured using a gravimetric method and were expressed as isotherms. A chromatographic method (i.e. pulse response of chloroform through the USY column with helium carrier) was used to get the initial slope of the isotherms. In the simulation, the GCMC method was used to calculate amounts adsorbed for various conditions. FF parameters were confidently applied. And modified structure model was effective for simulation.
