The study of relationships between family members necessitates data on a network not confined to the boundaries of the household and a variety of indicators to capture the nature of the exchanges. Using the data from Biographies et entourage survey, it is possible to elaborate such indicators by combining frequency of contacts, geographical distance and affective closeness, allowing us to analyse the local or semi-coresident nature of the parent–child relationships and the cross-cohesion between respondents aged 50–60 and their children. By first considering all the members of the current family circle, the analysis confirms that these cohorts are strongly involved in the family network numerically dominated by their siblings and children. However, since it is with their children that the interactions appear to be strongest, the article provides a more detailed analysis of relationships between the respondents and their children.

The dynamics and microcystins (MC) concentrations of a perennial Planktothrix agardhii bloom were investigated in a eutrophic lake (Viry-Chatillon, France). A weak relationship was observed between P. agardhii population biomass and the MC concentrations in a 1-year survey. To further investigate the causes of MC concentration changes, we concurrently conducted experiments on 41 strains isolated from this lake. We first checked the clonal diversity of P. agardhii population (i) by molecular techniques, to assess the presence of MC synthetase gene (mcyB), (ii) by biochemical assay (PP2A inhibition assay), for MC production, and (iii) by mass spectrometry (MS), to identify the MC chemotypes. Our results illustrated the diversity of genotype and MC chemotypes within a P. agardhii natural population. Eleven chemotypes among the 16 possible ones were found by MS. Furthermore, we noticed major differences in the MC content of isolated strains (from 0.02 to 1.86 microg equiv. MC-LR mg DW(-1), n=25). Growth and MC production of one MC-producing strain and one non-MC-producing strain were also assessed at two temperatures (10 and 20 degrees C). We showed that growth capacities of these strains were similar at the two tested temperatures, and that the MC production rate was correlated to the growth rate for the MC-producing strain. On the basis of these results, several hypotheses are discussed to explain the weakness of relationships between natural P. agardhii biomass and MC concentration. One of the main reasons could lie in the proportion of MC-producing clones and non-MC-producing clones that may change during the sampling period. Also, the MC-producing clones may present different intracellular MC content due to (i) MC chemotypes diversity, (ii) changes in MC variants proportions within a strain, and (iii) changes in MC rate production depending on the physiological state of cells. Finally, we concluded that various biological organization levels have to be considered (population, cellular and molecular), through an integrative approach, in order to provide a better understanding of P. agardhii in situ MC production.  相似文献

Recently, we reported that administration of Bifidobacteria resulted in increased concentrations of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) in murine adipose tissue [1]. The objective of this study was to assess the impact of co-administration of Bifidobacterium breve NCIMB 702258 and the substrate for EPA, α-linolenic acid, on host fatty acid composition. α-Linolenic acid-supplemented diets (1%, wt/wt) were fed to mice (n = 8), with or without B. breve NCIMB 702258 (daily dose of 109 microorganisms) for 8 weeks. Two further groups received either supplement of B. breve alone or unsupplemented diet. Tissue fatty acid composition was assessed by gas liquid chromatography. Dietary supplementation of α-linolenic acid resulted in higher (P < 0.05) α-linolenic acid and EPA concentrations in liver and adipose tissue and lower (P < 0.05) arachidonic acid in liver, adipose tissue and brain compared with mice that did not receive α-linolenic acid. Supplementation with B. breve NCIMB 702258 in combination with α-linolenic acid resulted in elevated (P < 0.05) liver EPA concentrations compared with α-linolenic acid supplementation alone. Furthermore, the former group had higher (P < 0.05) DHA in brain compared with the latter group. These results suggest a role for interactions between fatty acids and commensals in the gastrointestinal tract. This interaction between administered microbes and fatty acids could result in a highly effective nutritional approach to the therapy of a variety of inflammatory and neurodegenerative conditions.  相似文献

The effect of topcoat properties on the tendency of painted materials to blistering was studied. Six topcoats were applied on identical panels of hot-dip galvanized steel painted with a polyester primer. The tendency to blistering was assessed under the conditions of permanent condensation in a Q-panel condensation test at 60 °C. Internal tensile stress and stress development in organic coatings during temperature and relative humidity cycling were investigated by the cantilever curvature method. Although blisters originated from the metal/polymer interface, the extent of blistering was strongly influenced by the topcoat. Available data suggest that it may increase with the coating thickness, glass transition temperature (Tg) and thermal expansion properties. Connection was found between the internal tensile stress formed in topcoats during the paint film preparation and the extent of blistering. A hypothesis that stress-assisted interfacial bond hydrolysis was responsible for blister initiation is proposed. Other experiments suggested that local paint buckling over non-adherent sites can be caused by plastic deformation of the paint due to relief of compressive stress generated at elevated temperature or by ingress of water.  相似文献

Employing a structural equation model to evaluate a measurement scale can be challenging, especially for a multidimensional scale that contains many items. We describe two issues that can contribute to the poor fit of such models: the statistical power associated with the test of a large measurement scale; and the degree of correlation between items and factors within the scale. These issues are not well understood, so our purpose is to explain them at an applied level, clarify their practical implications for tests of measurement scales and other large structural equation models, and discuss potential strategies for addressing them.  相似文献

The results of a project aimed at identifying performance-based indicators that can be used by landfill operators to check the suitability of GCLs for bottom barrier applications are presented. The general methodology consisted of performing detailed characterization of the prevalent GCLs used in France for landfill barrier applications, before and after prolonged contact with several fluids during oedo-permeameter tests. Results of mineralogical analysis illustrate the variety of composition of the tested bentonites, which in addition to smectite clay contain a large number of accessory minerals. For one of the GCLs tested, the proportion of smectite was lower than 30 wt%, which highlights the limitations of the generic designation “bentonite” when referring to GCLs destined to landfill applications. Results also underline the correlation between cation exchange capacity (CEC) and smectite content, the correlation between free swell volume and proportion of exchangeable sodium and the influence of the bentonite's calcium carbonate fraction on hydraulic conductivity. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) photographs illustrate the effect of cation exchange on clay microstructure, with the formation of clay particles which lead to increased hydraulic conductivity. The exchange is also documented by exchangeable cation analyses. Results of isotopic analyses indicate that information provided by suppliers with respect to the “natural” versus “activated” nature of the bentonite, may sometimes be arbitrary and related to factors that are very difficult to check in practice, even by the suppliers themselves. This further underlines the need for performance-based indicators, rather than generic designations, to provide objective information regarding GCL suitability for landfill applications. Several performance-based indicators are selected in order to provide practical tools for checking the suitability of sodium-bentonite GCLs in bottom barrier applications and limit values are proposed.  相似文献

A simple furnace test explored ignition of three Mg alloys. WE43 had the highest ignition temperature (644 °C) compared with 628 °C for AZ31 and 600 °C for AZ91. Tests to measure the ignition temperature appear to be highly controlled. However, this appearance is deceptive because the ignition temperature depends on test details. Flame tests appear to be able to allow direct study of the behaviour in a flame and so appear to be a good approach to study the behaviour Mg alloys in an aircraft fire accident.  相似文献

The PD measure of phylogenetic diversity interprets branch lengths cladistically to make inferences about feature diversity. PD calculations extend conventional species-level ecological indices to the features level. The “phylogenetic beta diversity” framework developed by microbial ecologists calculates PD-dissimilarities between community localities. Interpretation of these PD-dissimilarities at the feature level explains the framework’s success in producing ordinations revealing environmental gradients. An example gradients space using PD-dissimilarities illustrates how evolutionary features form unimodal response patterns to gradients. This features model supports new application of existing species-level methods that are robust to unimodal responses, plus novel applications relating to climate change, commercial products discovery, and community assembly.  相似文献

The non-linear response of a swirl stabilised, lean premixed flame (CH4/air) was determined by forcing the flame acoustically at frequencies between 40 and 200 Hz with increasing amplitude. Measuring the chemiluminescent emission from OH1 with a photodiode sensor and calculating the flame transfer function, a linear response to increasing amplitude was observed at 40 and 60 Hz for all amplitudes with an equivalence ratio ? = 0.56. However, between 80 and 200 Hz the flame response exhibited non-linear characteristics for r.m.s velocity fluctuations greater than 20% of the mean flow velocity. With ? = 0.48, even 60 Hz became non-linear. Phase-locked Particle Image Velocimetry and Intensified CCD imaging were deployed at three amplitudes for detailed study of the flame and flow field response to forcing. At low frequencies the flow field was characterised by a pulsating inner recirculation zone, whilst at all frequencies the outer recirculation zone was modified by vortices rolling up the annular jet. As the forcing amplitude was increased, the effect on the flame shape became more pronounced, with large variations in flame volume at low frequencies and flame extinction due to stretching of the flame around the roll-up vortices at the higher frequencies. The results indicate different driving mechanisms behind the flame response at low and high frequencies. At low frequencies the flame response is governed by equivalence ratio fluctuations due to the ‘stiff’ fuel system and the volumetric fluctuations of the input air. At the higher frequencies the response is governed by flow field features such as vortex roll-up.  相似文献

This study was conducted to examine the fate of Escherichia coli O157:H7 during the manufacture and aging of Gouda and stirred-curd Cheddar cheeses made from raw milk. Cheeses were manufactured from unpasteurized milk experimentally contaminated with one of three strains of E. coli O157:H7 at an approximate population level of 20 CFU/ml. Samples of milk, whey, curd, and cheese were collected for enumeration of bacteria throughout the manufacturing and aging process. Overall, bacterial counts in both cheese types increased almost 10-fold from initial inoculation levels in milk to approximately 145 CFU/g found in cheeses on day 1. From this point, counts dropped significantly over 60 days to mean levels of 25 and 5 CFU/g in Cheddar and Gouda, respectively. Levels of E. coli O157:H7 fell and stayed below 5 CFU/g after an average of 94 and 108 days in Gouda and Cheddar, respectively, yet remained detectable after selective enrichment for more than 270 days in both cheese types. Changes in pathogen levels observed throughout manufacture and aging did not significantly differ by cheese type. In agreement with results of previous studies, our results suggest that the 60-day aging requirement alone is insufficient to completely eliminate levels of viable E. coli O157:H7 in Gouda or stirred-curd Cheddar cheese manufactured from raw milk contaminated with low levels of this pathogen.  相似文献
