The development of new binders, as an alternative to traditional cement, by the alkaline activation of industrial by-products (i.e. ground granulated slag and fly ash) is an ongoing research topic in the scientific community [Puertas F, Amat T, Jimenez AF, Vazquez T. Mechanical and durable behaviour of alkaline cement mortars reinforced with polypropylene fibres. Cem Concr Res 2003;33(12): 2031–6]. The aim of this study was to investigate the feasibility of using and alkaline activated ground Turkish slag to produce a mortar without Portland cement (PC).Following the characterization of the slag, mortar specimens made with alkali-activated slag were prepared. Three different activators were used: liquid sodium silicate (LSS), sodium hydroxide (SH) and sodium carbonate (SC) at different sodium concentrations. Compressive and flexural tensile strength of alkali-activated slag mortar was measured at 7-days, 28-days and 3-months. Drying shrinkage of the mortar was measured up to 6-months. Setting times of the alkali-activated slag paste and PC paste were also measured.Setting times of LSS and SH activated slag pastes were found to be much slower than the setting time of PC paste. However, slag paste activated with SC showed similar setting properties to PC paste.LSS, SH and SC activated slag mortar developed 81, 29, and 36 MPa maximum compressive strengths, and 6.8, 3.8, and 5.3 MPa maximum flexural tensile strengths at 28-days. PC mortar developed 33 MPa compressive strength and 5.2 MPa flexural tensile strength. LSS and SH activated slag mortars were found to be more brittle than SC activated slag and PC mortars.Slag mortar made with LSS had a high drying shrinkage, up to six times that of PC mortar. Similarly, slag mortar made with SH had a shrinkage up to three times that of PC mortar. However, SC activated slag mortar had a lower or comparable shrinkage to PC mortar. Therefore, the use of SC as an activator for slag mortar is recommended, since it results in adequate strength, similar setting times to PC mortar and comparable or lower shrinkage.  相似文献

A new crankshaft bearing material that can be an alternative to the traditional material has been improved and its wear behavior studied experimentally. Crankshaft main bearings are subjected to various stresses. A new material supposed to be adapted these operating conditions was designed composing of Pb–Sn–Cu–ZrO2 and manufactured by HVOF spraying technique. Wear behavior of the bearing was tested with the simulation of real operating conditions. An original bearing was used for comparison. After a trial of 500 h, the weight losses were measured. SEM micrographs of both original and new bearings were examined. The effect of microhardness was discussed. The new composition was seen as promising as a bearing material for automotive engines.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Electrical conductivity, photoconductivity, voltage‐controlled negative resistance and thermal properties of copolymers of 2‐acrylamido‐2‐methyl‐1‐propanesulfonic acid and maleic acid were investigated in order to obtain new organic semiconductors. RESULTS: The room temperature conductivity of three different copolymers was found to be in the range 1.28 × 10?8 ? 1.20 × 10?7 S cm?1. The dark‐ and photo‐current‐voltage characteristics indicate that the copolymers exhibit voltage‐controlled differential negative resistance behaviour. The electrical conductivity of the polymers increases by photo‐illumination, suggesting that the polymers exhibit photoconductivity. The width of the exponential tail in the forbidden band gap of the three polymers was determined via the transient photocurrent technique and E0 values were in the range 34.4–36.49 meV. The timely execution of a construction project is very important to the owner, who makes plans and commitments on the basis of the project’s anticipated completion date. Failure of design professionals to consider how a builder will implement the design can result in scheduling problems, delays, and disputes during the construction process. Constructability of design is a subjective scale that depends basically on a number of interdependent project-related factors. Many design firms have a formal (explicit) constructability program that is launched as early as the conceptual planning stage of the project. This research examines design professionals’ efforts to pursue constructability and provides recommendations for performing constructability reviews in an efficient and effective manner.  相似文献

A numerical technique is developed to determine the three-dimensional fiber orientation in complex flows. The fiber orientation state is specified in terms of orientation tensors, which are used in several constitutive models. This method is applied to quasi-steady state Hele-Shaw flows in order to predict the flow-induced fiber orientation during injection molding at zero volume fraction limit. At the inlet, a number of fibers are introduced at a specified rate into the flow and each fiber location is traced during the mold filling. Along these determined paths, the independent components of fourth order orientation tensors are solved, describing the orientation state. The numerical grid generation technique, which is suitable for complex mold shapes, is employed for the flow solution. Orientation ellipsoids are calculated from the second order tensors and are used to present the fiber orientation results. The numerical solutions are obtained for channel and converging flows. Planar, longitudinal, and transverse orientation results are generated from the orthogonal projections of the orientation ellipsoids.  相似文献

Boehmite/multi-wall carbon nanotube (MWCNT) composite powders were prepared by hydrothermal processing. Starting chemical of aluminum acetate powders (2Al(OH)(C2H3O2)2) and MWCNTs were mixed for the formation of stoichiometric boehmite powders in an attempt to synthesize MWCNT-reinforced boehmite nano-powders via hydrothermal synthesis at 200 °C for 2 h. Kinetically stable suspensions of MWCNT–boehmite composite powders were prepared and subsequently electrophoretic deposition (EPD) was applied to obtain complex shape products in the form of micro-gears. It is shown that the EPD technique is a powerful tool to manufacture small components in a short time. Detail TEM observations also indicated that hydrothermal processing provides an ideal environment to obtain homogeneous mixtures of MWCNT–boehmite powders due to effective surface functionalization of MWCNTs under hydrothermal conditions.  相似文献

This study aimed to evaluate the in vitro antioxidant and enzyme inhibitory activities of ethyl acetate, methanol, and water extracts of Bituminaria bituminosa. In phosphomolybdenum assay, the methanol extract showed the highest activity (166.78 μmol TEs/g dry plant). The water extract exhibited the highest scavenging activity on 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH?) and 2,2-azino-bis (3-ethylbenzothiazloine-6-sulphonic acid) (ABTS?+). In addition, it exhibited the highest activity in cupric ion reducing (CUPRAC) and ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) assays (41.26 and 46.82 μmol TEs/g dry plant). The extracts did not show cholinesterase and tyrosinase inhibitory activity. However, α-glucosidase inhibition assay resulted in the superiority of water extract (1233.86 μmol ACEs/g dry plant). In the case of α-amylase inhibitory assay, the ethyl acetate extract showed the highest activity (53.65 μmol ACEs/g dry plant). The water extract exhibited the highest phenolic content (31.70 μmol GAEs/g dry plant). In contrast, the methanol extract was found rich in flavonoid compounds (5.29 μmol REs/g dry plant). The water extract contained considerable amounts of rosmarinic acid, luteolin, quercetin, and rutin. Therefore, it can be used as a source of new and alternative antioxidant and enzyme inhibitory agents.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: The kinetic and thermodynamic parameters of mancozeb degradation in tomato homogenates under the conditions prevailing in the manufacture of tomato products (at 60–100 °C for 0–60 min) were investigated. A gas chromatography–mass spectrometry method was used to analyse residual mancozeb in tomato homogenate. Ethylenethiourea (ETU), the main toxic degradation product of mancozeb, was measured by high‐performance liquid chromatography (HPLC)–with photodiode array detector (PDA). RESULTS: The degradation of mancozeb and the formation of ETU in tomato homogenates were adequately described as first‐order kinetics. Dependence of the rate constant followed the Arrhenius relationship. Apparent activation energies, temperature coefficients, half time and time to reduce to 90% of the initial value of mancozeb were calculated as kinetic parameters. The thermodynamic parameters of mancozeb were also described as Δgd = ? 2.440 and 7.074 kJ mol?1; Δhd = ? 32.555 and ? 42.767 kJ mol?1; Δsd = ? 0.090 and ? 0.150 kJ mol?1 K?1; Ke = 0.414 and 9.797 L g?1 for 333 and 373 K respectively. CONCLUSION: Current findings may shed light on the reduction of mancozeb residue and its toxic degradation product during thermal processing of tomatoes and may also be valuable in awareness and prevention of potential risks from dietary exposure. A reusable catalyst with dual active center for chemical water oxidation is synthesized for the first time by immobilization of iridium oxide nanoparticles (IrO2 NPs) on monodisperse-porous manganese oxide microspheres acting both catalytic active center and support. Individual catalytic activity of manganese oxide microspheres is explained by multiple oxidation states of manganese which are capable of forming oxidative oxygen species. Monodisperse-porous microspheres in the form of Mn5O8, MnO2 and Mn2O3 are used for synthesis of different catalysts and the highest activity in water oxidation is observed with the catalyst synthesized using Mn5O8 microspheres. The catalytic activity is correlated with the total Mn(II) and Mn(III) percentage of manganese oxide type selected for composite catalyst. The oxygen evolution up to 244 μmol is achieved in 30 min with the catalyst synthesized using Mn5O8 microspheres. Maximum TON and TOF numbers are obtained as 298 and 557 h?1 with excellent reusability.  相似文献
