A material consisting of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and larger titania (TiO(2)) nanotube arrays has been produced and found to be efficient for reversible hydrogen (H(2)) storage. The TiO(2) nanotube arrays (diameter ~60?nm and length ~2-3?μm) are grown on a Ti substrate, and?MWCNTs a few μm in length and ~30-60?nm in diameter are grown inside these TiO(2) nanotubes using chemical vapor deposition with cobalt as a catalyst. The resulting material has been used in H(2) storage experiments based on a volumetric method using the pressure, composition, and temperature relationship of the storage media. This material can store up to 2.5?wt% of H(2) at 77?K under 25?bar with more than 90% reversibility. 相似文献

Nanocrystalline lanthanum hexaboride (LaB(6)) films have been deposited on molybdenum foil by the pulsed laser deposition (PLD) technique. The as-deposited films were characterized by x-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The XRD pattern shows the cubic crystallinity of the LaB(6) film. The AFM studies reveal that the conical shaped LaB(6) nanostructures have height 60?nm, base 800?nm, and a typical radius of curvature ~20?nm. A comparison of force and in situ current imaging AFM studies reveals that current contrast does not originate from the surface topography of the LaB(6) film. Field emission studies have been performed in the planar diode configuration. A current density of 4.4 × 10(-2)?A?cm(-2) is drawn from the actual emitting area. The Fowler-Nordheim plot is found to be linear, in accordance with the quantum mechanical tunneling phenomenon. The field enhancement factor is estimated to be 3585, indicating that the field emission is from LaB(6) nanocrystallites present on the emitter surface, as confirmed by the AFM. The emission current-time plots show current stability to the extent of 5% fluctuation about the average current over a period of 3?h. 相似文献

Nanobubbles have been found to form at the interface of water and solid surfaces. We examine the conditions for such bubbles to form and estimate the pressure inside the bubble based on thermodynamic considerations. Using a simple model we calculate the contact angle for a wide range of temperatures and hypothetical substrates possessing a continuous range of strengths. We show that as the temperature increases the shape of a bubble changes continuously from a spherical cap with low curvature to a complete sphere. An equivalent effect results from either increasing the strength of the solid or decreasing the surface tension. A model of a substrate formed by layers of materials is proposed to obtain a nanobubble with a particular contact angle. 相似文献

This study reports preparation of glass composition (54.50 wt.%) SiO2, (10.80 wt.%) B2O3, (14.20 wt.%) Na2O, (1.20 wt.%) K2O, (6.00 wt.%) CaO, (4.00 wt.%) Fe2O3 and (9.30 wt.%) TiO2 by melt quenching method using direct microwave heating and conventional resistive heating. Study of dielectric loss factor of the glass as function of temperature illustrated increasing loss factor above 370 ℃, 550 ℃, 650 ℃ and 900 ℃, indicating enhanced microwave absorption by the glass at above these temperatures. Chemical analysis results of both the glasses depicted more volatilization loss of volatile ingredients in conventional heating. The study of chemical durability was performed from leachate analysis describing less leaching of Na2O, K2O and other constituents from glass melted in microwave furnace. Glass transition temperatures (Tg) were found to be 576.3 ℃ and 569.5 ℃ for glass melted in conventional and microwave heating route, respectively. Ad hoc bio-sensor networks have a very characteristic structure with three types of nodes: the command centre, the sensor nodes (animals such as rats) and the relaying nodes. We have taken up such networks and measured the throughput of such systems and suggest ways in which the throughput can be increased. It was also found that to increase the throughput of such systems, no sophisticated routing techniques or expensive transmission techniques are needed. This can be achieved by simply adopting the appropriate motion trajectories of the nodes. We have also explained the structure of these networks in detail and the routing issues involved in these networks. A Hot-Spot problem at the command centre has also been discussed. The suggestions of appropriate motions target this problem and show how an even distribution of nodes can alleviate this problem to a large extent. In addition to this, a constraint on the number of messages the sensor node can send per unit time can also make the network more efficient. 相似文献

Oxidation resistance and water wettability of graphite flakes have been improved by a thin sol–gel film of magnesium aluminate spinel (MgAl2 O4 ) over its surface. The hydrosol has been synthesized by less expensive precursors and the spinel formation has been studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), supplemented with energy dispersive spectral analysis. After an easy-to-use mixing procedure, drying (110°C), and subsequent calcination (550°C), coated graphites were sieved to below 75 μm. The coating over the powder contained 1.5 wt% MgAl2 O4 , which enormously increased the oxidation resistance (performed at 600°, 900°, and 1200°C) and water wettability, as revealed by hydrophilic functional groups from infrared spectra. Defective, intermediate spinel structure of fine, lamellar Mg-doped γ-Al2 O3 has been considered to be significant for this improvement. An approximate (1:2) stoichiometry of (Mg:Al) in the coating composition was confirmed by an X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy test. Castables prepared by this graphite remarkably improved their bulk density and apparent porosity compared with those prepared by the as-received graphite. Casting water was reduced along with the amount of antioxidants. This also enhanced the resistance toward the basic slag by retaining the graphite in the refractory. 相似文献

Directionally solidified (DS) alloys with the nominal composition Ni-30 at. pct Fe-20 at. pct Al having eutectic microstructures
were used to study slip transfer across interphase boundaries and dislocation nucleation at the interfacial steps. The slip
transfer from the ductile second phase, γ(fcc) containing ordered γ′(L12) precipitates, to the ordered β(B2) phase and the generation of dislocations at the interface steps were interpreted using the mechanisms proposed for similar
