Abstract— The surface‐friction characteristics of the post‐bake temperature were compared to that of the rubbing condition on VA‐mode alignment films (AFs) using frictional force microscopy (FFM). The surface roughness and the surface frictional force increased when the temperature was elevated. However, the frictional asymmetry could not be detected by the frictional loop due to the instability of the side‐chain molecular arrangement. For the inter‐influences of the total friction and surface roughness, the density of the side chain was changed and it was intentionally rubbed for evaluation. The results showed that the total friction was higher when the rubbing was stronger and side‐chain density lower, and the surface roughness also increased in the same manner. This can be explained by the potential interaction due to the curved structure of the side‐chain surface that establishes the probe that is scanned and the top surface layer. In order to confirm the influence of the pre‐tilt angle on the tilt of the side chain, a test cell was produced under the same conditions and evaluated. The results showed that the pre‐tilt‐angle decreased according to the difference in density of the side chain and strength of rubbing after injecting liquid‐crystal (LC).  相似文献

This study proposes usability principles for the user interfaces (UI) design of complex 3D parametric architectural design and engineering tools. Numerous usability principles have been developed for generic desktop or web applications. The authors tried to apply existing usability principles as guidelines for evaluating complex 3D design and engineering applications. However, the principles were too generic and high-level to be useful as design or evaluation guidelines. The authors, all with more than 10 or 30 years of experience with various CAD systems, selected and reviewed 10 state-of-the-art 3D parametric design and engineering applications and captured what they thought were best practices, as screenshots and videos. The collected best practices were reviewed through a series of discussion sessions. During the discussion sessions, UI design principles underlying the collected best practices were characterized in the line of existing UI principles. Based on the best practices and the derived common UI principles, a new set of refined and detailed UI principles were proposed for improving and evaluating 3D parametric engineering design tools in the future.  相似文献

We propose a new link metric called normalized advance (NADV) for geographic routing in multihop wireless networks. NADV selects neighbors with the optimal trade-off between proximity and link cost. Coupled with the local next hop decision in geographic routing, NADV enables an adaptive and efficient cost-aware routing strategy. Depending on the objective or message priority, applications can use the NADV framework to minimize various types of link cost.We present efficient methods for link cost estimation and perform detailed experiments in simulated environments. Our results show that NADV outperforms current schemes in many aspects: for example, in high noise environments with frequent packet losses, the use of NADV leads to 81% higher delivery ratio. When compared to centralized routing under certain settings, geographic routing using NADV finds paths whose cost is close to the optimum. We also conducted experiments in Emulab testbed and the results demonstrate that our proposed approach performs well in practice.  相似文献

Vehicular sensing where vehicles on the road continuously gather, process, and share location-relevant sensor data (e.g., road condition, traffic flow) is emerging as a new network paradigm for sensor information sharing in urban environments. Recently, smartphones have also received a lot of attention for their potential as portable vehicular urban sensing platforms, as they are equipped with a variety of environment and motion sensors (e.g., audio/video, accelerometer, and GPS) and multiple wireless interfaces (e.g., WiFi, Bluetooth and 2/3G). The ability to take a smartphone on board a vehicle and to complement the sensors of the latter with advanced smartphone capabilities is of immense interest to the industry. In this paper we survey recent vehicular sensor network developments and identify new trends. In particular we review the way sensor information is collected, stored and harvested using inter-vehicular communications (e.g., mobility-assist mobility-assisted dissemination and geographic storage), as well using the infrastructure (e.g., centralized and distributed storage in the wired Internet). The comparative performance of the various sensing schemes is important to us. Thus, we review key results by carefully examining and explaining the evaluation methodology, in the process gaining insight into vehicular sensor network design. Our comparative study confirms that system performance is impacted by a variety of factors such as wireless access methods, mobility, user location, and popularity of the information.  相似文献

Key supplier-side factors that affect the usage level of mobile Internet were identified and the procedural mechanism among the independent and dependent variables was investigated. For this, a research model was introduced to describe associations among four external variables (access quality, service variety, cost rationality, and ease of use), an intermediate variable (usefulness) and a dependent variable (the usage level of mobile Internet). Through the on-line survey, data were gathered from actual mobile Internet users. Confirmatory factor analysis and path analysis were applied to test the overall integrity of the research model and of proposed hypotheses. All four external variables affected user perceptions on the usefulness of mobile Internet. Among them, service variety and cost rationality had a relatively larger influence on perceived usefulness. Perceived usefulness of the mobile Internet had a positive effect on its usage, confirming the important role of usefulness as a significant mediator between the four external variables and the dependent variable. Meanwhile, the cost rationality was the only external variable with direct influence on the MI usage. Theoretical and practical implications of the study results are discussed.  相似文献

XMin: Minimizing Tree Pattern Queries with Minimality Guarantee   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Due to wide use of XPath, the problem of efficiently processing XPath queries has recently received a lot of attention. In particular, a considerable effort has been devoted to minimizing XPath queries since the efficiency of query processing greatly depends on the size of the query. Research work in this area can be classified into two categories: constraint-independent minimization and constraint-dependent minimization. The former minimizes queries in the absence of integrity constraints while the latter in the presence of them. For a linear path query, which is an XPath query without branching predicates, existing constraint-independent minimization methods are generally known to be unable to minimize the query without processing the query itself. Most recently, however, by using the DataGuide, a representative structural summary of XML data, a constraint-independent method that minimizes linear path queries in a top-down fashion has been proposed. Nevertheless, this method can fail to find a minimal query since it minimizes a query by merely erasing labels from the original query whereas a minimal query could include labels that are not present in the original query. In this paper, we propose a bottom-up approach called XMin that guarantees finding a minimal query for a given tree pattern query by using the DataGuide without processing the query itself. For the linear path query, we first show that the sequence of labels occurring in the minimal query is a subsequence of every schema label sequence that matches the original query. Here, the schema label sequence for a node is the sequence of labels from the root of XML data to the node. We then propose iterative subsequence generation that iteratively generates subsequences from the shortest schema label sequence matching the original query in a bottom-up fashion and tests query equivalence. Using iterative subsequence generation, we can always find a minimal query and we formally prove this guarantee. We also propose an extended algorithm that guarantees the minimality for the tree pattern query, which is a linear path query with branching predicates. These methods have been prototyped in a full-fledged object-relational DBMS. The experimental results using real and synthetic data sets show the practicality of our method.  相似文献

The objective of this study is to compare the effectiveness of some standard feature reduction and classification techniques (including principal component analysis, PCA; multilayer perceptrons, MLPs; and nearest neighbor classifiers, k-NN) against several proposed variants for the analysis of high-dimensional biomedical spectral data. First, the original feature space is augmented by nonlinear transformations of the original features. We present an extension of sub-pattern PCA (SpPCA) proposed by Chen, which exploits sub-patterns (rather than complete original patterns) in the process of dimensionality reduction. Comprehensive experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of SpPCA over standard PCA. SpPCA leads to the development of individually reduced subspaces and, because of the local nature of this processing, the effectiveness of the reduction and classification processes may be enhanced. With respect to classifier topologies, we present and contrast two common classifiers, MLP and k-NN, as well as several fusion strategies. Finally, some general design guidelines are offered. The experimental framework uses biomedical data acquired from magnetic resonance spectrometers.  相似文献

This article presents the implementation of position control of a mobile inverted pendulum (MIP) system by using the radial basis function (RBF) network. The MIP has two wheels to move on the plane and to balance the pendulum. The MIP is a nonlinear system whose dynamics is nonholonomic. The goal of this study was to control the MIP to maintain the balance of the pendulum while tracking a desired position of the cart. The reference compensation technique scheme is used as a neural network control method for the MIP. The back-propagation learning algorithm of the RBF network is derived for online learning and control. The control algorithm has been embedded on a DSP 2812 board to achieve real-time control. Experimental results are conducted and show successful control performances of both balancing and tracking the desired position of the MIP.  相似文献
