The efficiency of soil remediation by surfactant washing was evaluated via the measured distribution coefficients of a number of nonpolar compounds in several soil-water mixtures. The studied compounds (contaminants) are BTEX (benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and p-xylene) and three chlorinated pesticides (lindane, alpha-BHC, and heptachlor epoxide), which span several orders of magnitude in water solubility (S(w)). A peat, and two natural soils were used that comprise a wide range in soil organic matter (SOM) content. The surfactants tested included cationic, anionic and nonionic types, with concentrations up to five to six times the critical micelle concentration (CMC). The K(d)(*)/K(d), values were used to evaluate the remediation efficiency under various operation conditions. For relatively water soluble BTEX compounds, the surfactant adsorption on the soil surface is the deciding factor on contaminant desorption from soil. For the less-soluble pesticides, surfactant micelles in solution influence the contaminant desorption more. The contaminants partitioning to SOM or adsorbed surfactants lowers the desorption efficiency. Anionic surfactants are found to be a better choice on soil remediation because they do not form admicelle on soil surface that enhances the SOM content. Cationic surfactant, which adsorb onto soil surfaces, leads to poor remediation efficiency. An improper selection of surfactant would result in inefficiency in soil remediation by surfactant washing.  相似文献

Aluminum oxide (Al2O3) films have been deposited on lithium niobate (LiNbO3) substrates by electron beam evaporation without any interlayer between them to ensure a good adhesion of the Al2O3 films to LiNbO3 substrates. As Al2O3 thin films can sufficiently increase the surface acoustic wave (SAW) velocity, they can be used to improve the performance of the SAW device. The SAW phase velocity in the Al2O3/LiNbO3 structure was found to increase with the insertion of an Al2O3 film, which can be attributed to the stiffening effect of the Al2O3 layer. The velocity change ratio of SAW was about 4.39% (at 304 MHz) for the Al2O3 (9.7 μm)/LiNbO3 sample. A comparison with other findings in literature reveals that this result is better than what is available from diamond-like carbon/SiC buffer layer/LiNbO3 structure, whose the velocity change ratio is 2%.  相似文献

In this study, the scalable and one‐step fabrication of single atomic‐layer transistors is demonstrated by the selective fluorination of graphene using a low‐damage CF4 plasma treatment, where the generated F‐radicals preferentially fluorinated the graphene at low temperature (<200 °C) while defect formation was suppressed by screening out the effect of ion damage. The chemical structure of the C–F bonds is well correlated with their optical and electrical properties in fluorinated graphene, as determined by X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and optical and electrical characterizations. The electrical conductivity of the resultant fluorinated graphene (F‐graphene) was demonstrated to be in the range between 1.6 kΩ/sq and 1 MΩ/sq by adjusting the stoichiometric ratio of C/F in the range between 27.4 and 5.6, respectively. Moreover, a unique heterojunction structure of semi‐metal/semiconductor/insulator can be directly formed in a single layer of graphene using a one‐step fluorination process by introducing a Au thin‐film as a buffer layer. With this heterojunction structure, it would be possible to fabricate transistors in a single graphene film via a one‐step fluorination process, in which pristine graphene, partial F‐graphene, and highly F‐graphene serve as the source/drain contacts, the channel, and the channel isolation in a transistor, respectively. The demonstrated graphene transistor exhibits an on‐off ratio above 10, which is 3‐fold higher than that of devices made from pristine graphene. This efficient transistor fabrication method produces electrical heterojunctions of graphene over a large area and with selective patterning, providing the potential for the integration of electronics down to the single atomic‐layer scale.  相似文献

Support vector machines (SVMs) were originally designed for binary classification. How to effectively extend it for multiclass classification is still an ongoing research issue. Several methods have been proposed where typically we construct a multiclass classifier by combining several binary classifiers. Some authors also proposed methods that consider all classes at once. As it is computationally more expensive to solve multiclass problems, comparisons of these methods using large-scale problems have not been seriously conducted. Especially for methods solving multiclass SVM in one step, a much larger optimization problem is required so up to now experiments are limited to small data sets. In this paper we give decomposition implementations for two such "all-together" methods. We then compare their performance with three methods based on binary classifications: "one-against-all," "one-against-one," and directed acyclic graph SVM (DAGSVM). Our experiments indicate that the "one-against-one" and DAG methods are more suitable for practical use than the other methods. Results also show that for large problems methods by considering all data at once in general need fewer support vectors.  相似文献

Hyperlipidemia and oxidative stress with elevated oxidized low-density lipoprotein (ox-LDL) exacerbate hepatic inflammation and fibrosis. The plasma level of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) is controlled by proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin 9 (PCSK9). Alirocumab is a monoclonal antibody that decreases LDL via inhibiting PCSK9 function. Apart from lipid-lowering effects, alirocumab exerts anti-inflammation, anti-angiogenesis and anti-oxidant effects. This study aims to investigate the impact of alirocumab treatment on common bile duct ligation (BDL)-induced biliary cirrhotic rats. After a 4-week treatment of alirocumab, the hemodynamic data, blood biochemistry, ox-LDL level, oxidative stress markers, severity of hepatic encephalopathy and abnormal angiogenesis of BDL rats were measured and compared to the control group. BDL rats presented cirrhotic pictures and elevated ammonia, total cholesterol, LDL and ox-LDL levels compared to the control group. Alirocumab decreased plasma levels of total cholesterol, LDL, and oxidative stress markers; however, it did not affect the hemodynamics, liver and renal biochemistry, and the plasma levels of ammonia and ox-LDL. The motor activities, portal-systemic collaterals and mesenteric vascular density were not significantly different between alirocumab-treated and control groups. In addition, it did not affect hepatic inflammation, intrahepatic angiogenesis, liver fibrosis and free cholesterol accumulation in the liver of BDL rats. In conclusion, PCSK9 inhibition by alirocumab treatment ameliorates hyperlipidemia and systemic oxidative stress in biliary cirrhotic rats. However, it does not affect the plasma level of ox-LDL, intrahepatic inflammation and fibrosis. In addition, PCSK9 inhibition has a neutral effect on abnormal angiogenesis and hepatic encephalopathy in biliary cirrhotic rats.  相似文献

In this paper, we address the problem of how to classify a set of query vectors that belong to the same unknown class. Sets of data known to be sampled from the same class are naturally available in many application domains, such as speaker recognition. We refer to these sets as homologous sets. We show how to take advantage of homologous sets in classification to obtain improved accuracy over classifying each query vector individually. Our method, called homologous naive Bayes (HNB), is based on the naive Bayes classifier, a simple algorithm shown to be effective in many application domains. RNB uses a modified classification procedure that classifies multiple instances as a single unit. Compared with a voting method and several other variants of naive Bayes classification, HNB significantly outperforms these methods in a variety of test data sets, even when the number of query vectors in the homologous sets is small. We also report a successful application of HNB to speaker recognition. Experimental results show that HNB can achieve classification accuracy comparable to the Gaussian mixture model (GMM), the most widely used speaker recognition approach, while using less time for both training and classification.  相似文献

Due to the rapid development of mobile devices equipped with cameras, instant translation of any text seen in any context is possible. Mobile devices can serve as a translation tool by recognizing the texts presented in the captured scenes. Images captured by cameras will embed more external or unwanted effects which need not to be considered in traditional optical character recognition (OCR). In this paper, we segment a text image captured by mobile devices into individual single characters to facilitate OCR kernel processing. Before proceeding with character segmentation, text detection and text line construction need to be performed in advance. A novel character segmentation method which integrates touched character filters is employed on text images captured by cameras. In addition, periphery features are extracted from the segmented images of touched characters and fed as inputs to support vector machines to calculate the confident values. In our experiment, the accuracy rate of the proposed character segmentation system is 94.90%, which demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed method.  相似文献

ATM switch, the core technology of an ATM networking system, is one of the major products in Fujitsu telecommunication business. However, current gate–level design methodology can no longer satisfy its stringent time–to–market requirement. It becomes necessary to exploit high–level methodology to specify and synthesize the design at an abstraction level higher than logic gates. This paper presents our prototyping experience on domain–specific high–level modeling and synthesis for Fujitsu ATM switch design. We propose a high–level design methodology using VHDL, where ATM switch architectural features are considered during behavior modeling, and a high–level synthesis compiler, MEBS, is prototyped to synthesize the behavior model down to a gate–level implementation. Since the specific ATM switch architecture is incorporated into both modeling and synthesis phases, a high–quality design is efficiently derived. The synthesis results shows that given the design constraints, the proposed high–level design methodology can produce a gate–level implementation by MEBS with about 15 percent area reduction in shorter design cycle when compared with manual design.  相似文献

Echo canceller plays an important role in the full-duplex communication system. Conventional implementations of echo cancellers are often the adaptive transversal filter architectures due to the simplicity and robustness of stability and convergence. However, the conventional echo cancellers suffer from high cost problem especially when the response time of the echo is long. In this paper, a new cost-efficient architecture of echo cancellers, targeting on 10GBase-T Ethernet System, is presented. The proposed scheme inherits the concept of channel shortening which is widely employed in DSL systems. A shortened impulse response filter is implemented at the receiver to shorten the impulse response of the echo signal. Hence, the overall cost of echo cancellers can be reduced. We generalize the channel shortening architecture to a joint multi-channel shortening scheme. The joint multi-channel shortening architecture can be applied to multiple-input multiple-output wireline communication systems to further reduce both the cost of echo and near-end crosstalk (NEXT) cancellers. We apply the proposed scheme to 10GBase-T Ethernet system. The simulation results show that the proposed echo and NEXT cancellers can save up to 35% hardware cost compared to the conventional transversal implementations.

A novel, polymer-based carbon nanotube (CNT) composite with high electromagnetic (EM) wave shielding effectiveness (SE) and high mechanical properties was developed. Two types of CNTs with different aspect ratios and morphologies are compared in this study. Amorphous carbon and graphite powder are used as reference materials. The liquid crystal polymer (LCP) and melamine formaldehyde (MF) are used as polymer matrices to study the orientation effect of CNTs in a polymer matrix. The influences of orientation, aspect ratio, mass fraction, and morphology of CNTs upon the shielding effectiveness (SE) of CNT/polymer composites are investigated. The experimental results show that the higher the orientation, the aspect ratio, and the weight percentage of nanomaterials are in the composite, the higher the polymer composites’ SE. The nanomaterials’ morphology, especially CNTs, also affects the SE value of the polymer composite. The highest SE for the CNT/LCP composite obtained is >62 dB. The theoretically calculated SE data are consistent with experimentally obtained data.  相似文献
