Plant-seed parasite pollination mutualisms involve a specific pollinator whose larvae develop by consuming a fraction of the host plant seeds. These mutualisms are stable only if the plant can control seed destruction by the larvae. Here, we studied the chemical response of the European globeflower Trollius europaeus to infestation by an increasing number of Chiastocheta fly larvae. We used liquid chromatographic analysis to compare the content of phenolic compounds in unparasitized and parasitized fruits collected in two natural populations of the French Alps, and mass spectrometry and nuclear magnetic resonance to elucidate the structure of adonivernith, a C-glycosyl-flavone. This compound is present in many of the organs of T. europaeus, but not found in other Trollius species. Furthermore, it is overproduced in the carpel walls of parasitized fruits, and this induced response to infestation by fly larvae is density-dependent (increases with larval number), and site-dependent (more pronounced in the high-altitude site). Mechanical damage did not induce adonivernith production. This tissue-specific and density-dependent response of T. europaeus to infestation by Chiastocheta larvae might be an efficient regulation mechanism of seed-predator mutualist population growth if it decreases survival or growth of the larvae.  相似文献

Reducing micropollutant pollution of water bodies is an important objective of water management and an integral part of environmental policy. Ceramic nanofiltration membranes were developed as multichannel membranes of increased membrane area and rotating disk filters. The membranes developed show retention of over 80 % for PEG 400. The membranes are currently being tested for the separation of micropollutants from wastewater contaminated with pharmaceuticals. With the help of a downstream oxidative process, the trace substances remaining in the permeate are degraded.  相似文献

The effect of stock-culture period on the sensitivity of theLemna bioassay to four different phenolic substances was evaluated in this study. The sensitivity of the bioassay interacted with the stock-culture period of either 11, 14, or 18 days. After a seven-day testp-hydroxybenzoic acid (HBA), vanillic acid (VA),trans-cinnamic acid (CA), and ferulic acid (FA) with a concentration of 0.05 mM significantly reduced the number of fronds and the dry weight compared with the untreated control when the stock-culture period had been exactly 14 days. The sensitivity after the shorter (11 days) or longer (18 days) stock-culture period was reduced, and the differences in the dry weight to the untreated control were not significant after a stock culture period of 18 days. The two higher concentrations (0.1 and 0.25 mM) showed stronger inhibition. A comparison of the inhibition at 0.05 mM revealed that the stock-culture period affected the relative toxicity of the four phenolic substances. Since the pH increased in the stock-culture flasks during the 18-day period from 6.25 to 7.9, we hypothesize that differences in theLemna assay can be at least partly attributed to a pH effect, possibly in combination with a relative nutrient deficiency. We recommend a standardization of the stock-culture period to 14 days to improve the sensitivity of theLemna bioassay.  相似文献

4-C-Alkyl/aryl-S-ribosylhomocysteine (SRH) analogues were prepared by coupling of homocysteine with 4-substituted ribofuranose derivatives. The diastereoselective incorporation of the methyl substituent into the 4 position of the ribose ring was accomplished by the addition of methylmagnesium bromide to the protected ribitol-4-ulose yielding the 4-C-methylribitol in 85% yield as single 4R diastereomer. The 4-C hexyl, octyl, vinyl, and aryl ribitols were prepared analogously. Chelation controlled addition of a carbanion to ketones from the Si-face was responsible for the observed stereochemical outcome. Oxidation of the primary alcohol of the 4-C ribitols with catalytic amounts of tetrapropylammonium perruthenate in the presence of N-methylmorpholine N-oxide produced 4-C-alkylribono-1,4-lactones in high yields. Mesylation of the latter compounds at the 5-hydroxyl position and treatment with a protected homocysteine thiolate afforded protected 4-C-alkyl/aryl-SRH analogues as the lactones. Reduction with lithium triethylborohydride and successive global deprotections with TFA afforded 4-C-alkyl/aryl SRH analogues. These analogues might impede the S-ribosylhomocysteinase(LuxS)-catalyzed reaction by preventing β-elimination of a homocysteine molecule, and thus depleting the production of quorum sensing signaling molecule AI-2.  相似文献

Rutile coatings deposited on corundum substrates are considered as promising functional elements improving the efficiency of the filtration of oxide inclusions out of aluminium melts. This contribution describes the reactions between rutile and two kinds of the aluminium melts and discusses the consequences of these reactions for the filtration process. It was found that the contact of rutile coatings with molten aluminium leads to the formation of a corundum layer at the solid/liquid interface. The exposure of the rutile coatings to molten AlSi7Mg0.6 alloy produces an interface layer of MgTiO3. The interface layers possess defined orientation relationship to rutile which is characteristic for locally heteroepitaxial growth. The density functional theory calculations revealed that the TiO2/α-Al2O3 and TiO2/MgTiO3 interfaces with the orientation relationships observed experimentally have low interface energies. The mechanisms of the interface layer formation and the impact of these layers on the degradation of the rutile coatings are discussed.  相似文献

Definition of the problem: Physicians and nurses who work in neonatology—as in intensive care at all—are often forced to decide whether to stop or to continue with the treatment of a severely ill patient. The literature provides several decision making instruments, which are meant to help and to rationalize such decisions. Method and conclusion: Two of these instruments (“Schema zur ethischen Urteilsbildung nach dem Muster der aristotelischen Ethik”, Honnefelder 1994; “Nimwegener Methode für ethische Fallbesprechung”, Gordijn 1998) were tested by retrospectively examining two cases of our NICU. Results of our study show that the use of a decision making instrument is basically helpful. But the above mentioned instruments showed also shortcomings when used in the framework of neonatology. Therefore we developed the “Kölner Arbeitsbogen zur ethischen Entscheidungsfindung in der Neonatologie”, which is adapted to the specific needs of neonatology.  相似文献

A methodology, presented by Jaeckle and MacGregor [C.M. Jaeckle and J.F. MacGregor, Product Design Through Multivariate Statistical Analysis of Process Data, AIChE J. 44 (5) (1998) 1105–1118.], for finding a window of process operating conditions within which a product with specified quality characteristics can be produced is applied to two industrial polymerization processes. The approach uses historical data available on the process operating conditions and on the corresponding product quality for a range of existing product grades. Latent variable models — built using the existing data — are inverted to obtain a window of operating conditions, which are not only capable of yielding the desired product but are also consistent with past operating procedures and constraints. A semi-batch emulsion polymerization process for manufacturing various grades of a copolymer latex, and a batch solution polymerization process for manufacturing a range of polymer resins are considered.  相似文献

This study investigated the effects of organic and colloidal fouling on the removal of a representative micropollutant sulphamethoxazole by two commercially available NF membranes. Alginate, bovine serum albumin and colloidal silica were selected as model foulants to simulate hydrophilic and hydrophobic organic fractions, and colloidal matter that are often found in treated effluent and surface water. Membrane fouling was related to the membrane and foulant characteristics and subsequently the separation behaviour of the micropollutant sulphamethoxazole under different solution pH. On the basis of these results, it was confirmed that membrane fouling is strongly dependent on both the foulant and membrane characteristics. The complex relationship among retention mechanisms, fouling mechanisms and the effects of fouling on retention was systematically delineated. Of the three model foulants selected for this study, colloidal fouling resulted in the most significant reduction in retention of sulphamethoxazole as well as inorganic salts, while flux decline as a result of colloidal fouling was quite moderate. Reduction in retention caused by fouling was attributed to a phenomenon known as cake-enhance concentration polarisation, which was a predominant mechanism of colloidal fouling. In addition, the reported results suggested that the effect of fouling on retention is also membrane pore size dependent.  相似文献
