The white pine cone beetle, Conophthorus coniperda, exhibited dose and enantiospecific responses to -pinene in stands of mature eastern white pine, Pinus strobus, in a seed orchard near Murphy, North Carolina, USA. (–)--Pinene significantly increased catches of cone beetles to traps baited with (± )-trans-pityol. (+)--Pinene did not increase catches of beetles to pityol-baited traps and interrupted the response of beetles to traps baited with (±)-trans-pityol and (–)--pinene. Maximal attraction of cone beetles to pityol-baited traps was obtained with lures releasing (–)--pinene at a rate of 103 mg/day at 23°C. Lures releasing (–)--pinene at rates lower or higher than 103 mg/day resulted in reduced catches to traps baited with (±)-trans-pityol. The sex ratio in all catches was heavily male biased. Attraction of the clerid predator, Thanasimus dubius, to traps baited with (±)-trans-pityol increased significantly with the presence of -pinene, irrespective of enantiomeric composition. Maximal attraction of T. dubius to pityol-baited traps occurred with devices releasing (–)--pinene at the highest rate tested, 579 mg/d at 23°C, a sub optimal rate for cone beetles.  相似文献

The processing of carbon-ceramic composites by utilizing the unique sintering ability of mesocarbon microbeads (MCMB) is reported. The ceramic constituents (silicon nitride and silicon carbide) are formed in situ by reactions between MCMB and silicon in different atmospheres. In comparison with direct addition of ceramic (SiC, Si3N4) phases, in situ formation shows several appealing features. By inducing the reaction of silicon with MCMB, the sintering ability of the composite is enhanced via reaction bonding mechanisms. Similarly, it is demonstrated that composite porosity is limited owing to silicon reaction with nitrogen. The reactive formation of nanoscale ceramic reinforcements via decomposition of the silicon-containing polymer (e.g. poly-carbomethyl-silane) is also reported. This approach results in formation of uniform nanosized (>100 nm) SiC layers strongly bonded to the surface of the carbon particles. The presented results contribute to the development of carbon-ceramic materials with high-operational properties.  相似文献

The ability to predict and control organic decomposition of a material under arbitrary thermal treatments is one of the main objectives of thermogravimetric studies. The development of this ability provides significant potential to ensure reliability and reproducibility for a given processing method and can be used in planning optimized thermal treatment strategies. Based on this report, the master sintering curve theory has been successfully extended to similar kinetically controlled phenomena. The theory has been applied to organic decomposition reaction kinetics to develop a master organic decomposition curve. The fundamental kinetics are assumed to be governed by an Arrhenius-type reaction rate, making master sintering and decomposition curves analogous to one another. The formulation and construction of a master decomposition curve are given in this paper. Simultaneous thermogravimetric and differential thermal analysis of a low-temperature co-fire glass/ceramic dielectric tape (Dupont 951 Green TapeTM) is analyzed and used to demonstrate this new concept. The results reveal two independent organic decomposition reactions, the first occurring at ≈245°C and the second at ≈365°C. The analysis is used to produce a master decomposition curve and to calculate the activation energy for these reactions, at 86±6 and 142±4 kJ/mol, respectively. In addition, the weight loss of product and the rate of decomposition can be predicted under varying thermal paths (time–temperature trajectories) following a minimal set of preliminary experiments.  相似文献

Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS) reduce water consumption by efficient filtration to maintain appropriate levels of accumulating compounds and sludge. Sludge is mechanically separated by drum filters and disposed of to the detriment of overall system water budgets. Dissolved nitrogen compounds are reduced via nitrification–denitrification filters, requiring commercial external carbon sources. The reuse of sludge after ozone pre-treatment may represent the next step in RAS optimization. The present study analyzes the content of sludge from RAS and tests ozonation as a pre-treatment for recycling as carbon source. The dissociative effect of ozone and the physicochemical changes due to ozonation lead to a significant increase in soluble carbon availability. Predominantly long-chain fatty acid (FA) (saturated and unsaturated) with 16 and 18 carbon atoms independently of the treatment were found in the profiles. Saturated FA concentrations in solution increased after 20, 40, and 60 min ozonation. The solid content of the sludge was practically unaffected by ozonation in terms of FA profile: only saturated FA slightly increases after 40 min treatment. The implications of these findings for denitrifying bacteria are discussed.

Viscosity and dynamic shear measurements are reported on several network forming systems as a function of reaction time and temperature. Phenolic, epoxy and EPDM rubber systems are examined. Rheological data are related to the reaction kinetics of the systems. With these relations overall activation energies, reaction orders and rate constants are interpreted from the data. These compare favorably with results in the literature. Applications of rheological techniques to processing problems of several network forming systems are described, specifically thermoset injection molding and SBR rubber vulcanization.  相似文献

Anomaly detection in resource constrained wireless networks is an important challenge for tasks such as intrusion detection, quality assurance and event monitoring applications. The challenge is to detect these interesting events or anomalies in a timely manner, while minimising energy consumption in the network. We propose a distributed anomaly detection architecture, which uses multiple hyperellipsoidal clusters to model the data at each sensor node, and identify global and local anomalies in the network. In particular, a novel anomaly scoring method is proposed to provide a score for each hyperellipsoidal model, based on how remote the ellipsoid is relative to their neighbours. We demonstrate using several synthetic and real datasets that our proposed scheme achieves a higher detection performance with a significant reduction in communication overhead in the network compared to centralised and existing schemes.  相似文献

Transformation-range viscosity and thermal expansion measurements were made for five series (Li-Na, Li-K, Li-Cs, Na-Cs, and K-Rb) of mixed-alkali borate glasses containing 30 mol% total alkali oxide. In each case, negative deviations from additivity were observed in the isokom and glass transformation temperatures. Positive deviations from additivity were observed in the thermal expansion coefficients for the Li-Na, Li-K, and K-Rb glasses, while the Li-Cs and Na-Cs glasses exhibited negative deviations. Maximization of the deviation from additivity in the viscosity and glass transformation temperatures occurred when the radius ratio of the two alkali ions was approximately 1.7 to 1.8. Combination of the results of this study with those of earlier studies indicates that the deviations from additivity observed for these properties are independent of the identity of the glass former.  相似文献

The use of hypochlorite, formed in situ by anodic oxidation of sodium chloride solution, for bleaching indigo-dyed denim has been studied at room temperature and at 50 °C. A direct relationship between the charge flow applied and the bleaching effect was observed. This enables consistent oxidative bleaching to be achieved by controlling the electrochemical process. The use of mixed anolytes containing small concentrations of bromide ions enhanced the bleaching effect considerably, even after lowering the temperature to room temperature. The molar concentration of bromide ions required was much lower than that of chloride in the anolyte.  相似文献

Leaves of Chrysanthemum morifolium cv. Ramat were extracted sequentially with hexane, ethyl acetate, and methanol. The methanol fraction, when incorporated into artificial diet was found to reduce the growth of cabbage looper (Trichoplusia ni Hubner) larvae at concentrations between 500 and 5000 ppm of diet. Fractionation of the methanol extract on a Sephadex column yielded five fractions, three of which reduced the weight of larvae relative to the control. One fraction was analyzed using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and found to contain three main constituents. These compounds were purified using a combination of gel permeation chromatography on Sephadex LH20 and HPLC, and analyzed by 1H and 13CNMR as well as undergoing chemical and physical analyses. The compounds were identified as: 1, chlorogenic acid (5-O-caffeoylquinic acid); 2, 3,5-O-dicaffeoylquinic acid; and 3, 3', 4',5-trihydroxyflavanone7-O-glucuronide (eriodictyol7-O-glucuronide). At concentrations between 100 to 1000 ppm these compounds reduced both growth and photosynthesis of Lemna gibba L. with the order of efficacy being: flavanone > chlorogenic acid > 3,5-O-dicaffeoylquinic acid. Furthermore, when incorporated separately into artificial diet these compounds, at 10 to 1000 ppm, enhanced or reduced growth of the cabbage looper (Trichoplusia ni) and gypsy moth (Lymantria dispar L.).  相似文献

This paper presents an empirical study of control logic specifications used to document industrial control logic code in manufacturing applications. More than one hundred input/output related property specifications from ten different reusable function blocks were investigated. The main purpose of the study was to provide understanding of how the specifications are expressed by industrial practitioners, in order to develop new tools and methods for specifying control logic software, as well as for evaluating existing ones. In this paper, the studied specifications are used to evaluate linear temporal logic in general and the specification language ST-LTL, tailored for functions blocks, in particular. The study shows that most specifications are expressed as implications, that should always be fulfilled, between input and output conditions. Many of these implications are complex since the input and output conditions may be mixed and involve sequences, timer issues and non-boolean variables. Using ST-LTL it was possible to represent all implications of this study. The few non-implication specifications could be specified in ST-LTL as well after being altered to suit the specification language. The paper demonstrates some advantages of ST-LTL compared to standard linear temporal logic and discusses possible improvements such as support for automatic rewrite of complex specifications.  相似文献
