The goal of this research was to compare narrowband hyperspectral Hyperion data with broadband hyperspatial IKONOS data and advanced multispectral Advanced Land Imager (ALI) and Landsat-7 Enhanced Thematic Mapper Plus (ETM+) data through modeling and classifying complex rainforest vegetation. For this purpose, Hyperion, ALI, IKONOS, and ETM+ data were acquired for southern Cameroon, a region considered to be a representative area for tropical moist evergreen and semi-deciduous forests. Field data, collected in near-real time to coincide with satellite sensor overpass, were used to (1) quantify and model the biomass of tree, shrub, and weed species; and (2) characterize forest land use/land cover (LULC) classes.The study established that even the most advanced broadband sensors (i.e., ETM+, IKONOS, and ALI) had serious limitations in modeling biomass and in classifying forest LULC classes. The broadband models explained only 13-60% of the variability in biomass across primary forests, secondary forests, and fallows. The overall accuracies were between 42% and 51% for classifying nine complex rainforest LULC classes using the broadband data of these sensors. Within individual vegetation types (e.g., primary or secondary forest), the overall accuracies increased slightly, but followed a similar trend. Among the broadband sensors, ALI sensor performed better than the IKONOS and ETM+ sensors.When compared to the three broadband sensors, Hyperion narrowband data produced (1) models that explained 36-83% more of the variability in rainforest biomass, and (2) LULC classifications with 45-52% higher overall accuracies. Twenty-three Hyperion narrowbands that were most sensitive in modeling forest biomass and in classifying forest LULC classes were identified and discussed. 相似文献

This paper uses three recently generated southern African satellite burned area products for the month of September 2000 in a sensitivity study of regional biomass burning emissions for a number of trace gases and particulates. Differences in the extent and location of areas burned among products generated from Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS), Systeme Pour l'Observation de la Terre (SPOT-VEGETATION), and Along Track Scanning Radiometer (ATSR-2) data are significant and result in different emissions estimates for woodland and grassland land cover types. Due to the different emission profiles in woodlands and grasslands, favoring relatively more products of incomplete combustion in woodlands compared with products of complete combustion in grasslands in the late dry season, these changes are not proportional to the differences in the burned area amounts. The importance of accurate burned area information not just in terms of the total area but also in terms of its spatial distribution becomes apparent from our modeling results. This paper highlights the urgent need for satellite data producers to provide accuracy assessments associated with satellite-derived products. Preferably, these accuracy data will be spatially explicit, or defined in a way that can be applied in a spatially explicit modeling context, to enable emissions uncertainties to be defined with respect to different landscape units in support of greenhouse gas emissions reporting. 相似文献

Structural equation modeling was used to test the mediational role of social environmental selection on alcohol use in cross-sectional samples of 447 students from a rural state university and 421 students from an urban private university. Results showed that male gender, White ethnicity, and sensation seeking were uniquely associated with greater alcohol use. Mediational analyses indicated that socioenvironmental factors (i.e., Greek involvement, friends' approval of drinking/getting drunk) were positively associated with alcohol use and significantly accounted for parts of the effects of ethnicity and sensation seeking, but not gender, on alcohol use. Results suggest that White students and those high on sensation seeking may drink more heavily in college, in part because they select social environments in which alcohol use is encouraged. The control of hemorrhage in hypothermic patients with platelet and clotting factor depletion is often impossible. Determining the cause of coagulopathic bleeding (CB) will enable physicians to appropriately focus on rewarming, clotting factor repletion, or both. Objective: To determine the contribution of hypothermia in producing CB and ascertain if simultaneous hypothermia and dilutional coagulopathy (DC) interact synergistically. Method: Prothrombin time, partial thromboplastin time, and platelet function were determined at assay temperatures of 29 degrees to 37 degrees C on normal and critically ill, noncoagulopathic (NC) individuals. Dilutional coagulopathy was created using buffered saline and the assays repeated. Results: Hypothermic assay at < or = 35 degrees C significantly prolonged coagulation times. The effect of hypothermia on NC and DC samples was not different. Conclusion: Assays performed at 37 degrees C underestimate coagulopathy in hypothermic patients. The effect of hypothermia on NC and DC is not different, indicating the lack of a synergistic effect. Normalization of clotting requires both rewarming and clotting factor repletion. 相似文献

A condensation type reaction has been studied for reactive extrusion in a twin-screw extruder. The esterification reaction is to graft a nonylphenyl-ethoxylate (NP8) onto a pre-maleated ethylene-propylene (EPRMA). The kinetics were initially characterized in the static mixture using a thermally controlled call in a FTIR spectrometer. These were then used to predict the conversion along the length of the extruder screws, having determined the residence time distribution at various sampling locations. A reasonable fit with the data was obtained, although the kinetics seem to be slightly faster in the flowing medium than those predicted. Over short screw distances, the equilibrium rapidly approached equilibrium. Moreover, the NP8 was shown to penetrate the EPRMA within screw distance of less than 1.3 L/D, despite using conveying elements known for their minimal mixing capacity. Within the molten medium, a mixing model showed that obtaining the expected conversion in a product does not imply that the reactants in the product have in fact been well mixed. 相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To assess the risk for acute and chronic fetal hypoxia in twin pregnancies. METHODS: We investigated 50 sets of twins (24-38 weeks' gestation, 660-3200 g birth weight) admitted consecutively to our neonatal intensive care unit. Seventy-six infants were appropriate for gestational age (AGA; tenth to 90th percentile), 20 were small for gestational age (SGA; below the tenth percentile), and four were large for gestational age (above the 90th percentile). Twenty-six singleton AGA term newborns served as controls. Umbilical arterial pH was used as a marker for acute and umbilical venous erythropoietin concentration for chronic fetal hypoxia. The results are given as median followed by quartiles. RESULTS: We identified 40 sets of diamniotic-dichorionic twins and ten sets of diamniotic-monochorionic twins with transplacental vascular shunts. In the second-born twin, umbilical arterial pH was lower (7.29, 7.23-7.33) than in the firstborn (7.31, 7.25-7.34) (P = .03), and the incidence of a low pH (less than 7.20) was higher (19 versus 11%). Two second-born twins and none of the firstborn twins had an umbilical arterial pH less than 7.05. In SGA twins, the erythropoietin concentration was elevated (34.8, 22.8-325 mU/mL) compared with that in AGA twins (16.2, 8.2-26.6 mU/mL) (P < .01). In AGA twins, erythropoietin concentration did not differ from that in AGA singleton newborns (19.6, 14.7-31.6 mU/mL). In 12 of 17 twin sets with weight discordancy greater than 15% and in all five twin sets with weight difference greater than 25%, erythropoietin concentration was higher in the smaller twin. The proportion of infants and of complete sets with elevated erythropoietin levels was higher (P < .01) in monochorionic than in dichorionic pregnancies. CONCLUSION: The second-born twin is at increased risk for acute birth asphyxia. Fetal growth restriction in twin pregnancies is associated with chronic fetal hypoxia. Monochorionic twins are at higher risk for chronic fetal hypoxia than are dichorionic twins. 相似文献
