A generalized volume integral equation method is formulated for electromagnetic scattering by arbitrarily shaped complex bodies with inhomogeneous bi-isotropy. Based on the volume equivalence principle, the integral equations are represented in terms of a pair of coupled bi-isotropic polarized volume electric and magnetic flux densities. Reduction of the integral equations into the corresponding matrix equations is obtained using the method of moments (MoM) combined with the tetrahedral mesh. In the MoM solution, the three-dimensional solenoidal function is incorporated as the basis function defined over each tetrahedral element and the details of implementation, particularly the treatment of integral singularities, will be elucidated. The efficiency and accuracy of the proposed method are validated by illustratively supported examples. 相似文献

In this article we use fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) to investigate how a classic coalescing aid, such as 2,2,4-trimethyl-1,3-pentanediol monoisobutyrate (Texanol?) (TX), acts on the earliest stages of polymer diffusion as the latex film is still drying. In our approach, we temporarily arrest the drying process of a partially wet latex film by sealing it in an airtight chamber previously cooled to near the latex Tg. At these conditions, we are able to effectively stop the drying process and the polymer diffusion. FRET measurements at various locations on such a sample provide us information about the mechanism operating at the initial stages of polymer diffusion as the latex film is still drying. We complete our study with FRET measurements carried out at longer aging times on predried latex films. We analyze our diffusion data in terms of free volume theory and propose a mechanism that can account for the results obtained. 相似文献

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic multi-organ autoimmune disease characterized by hyperactivated immune responses to self-antigens and persistent systemic inflammation. Previously, we reported abnormalities in circulating and bone marrow (BM)-derived plasmacytoid dendritic cells (pDCs) from SLE patients. Here, we aim to seek for potential regulators that mediate functional aberrations of pDCs in SLE. BM-derived pDCs from NZB/W F1 mice before and after the disease onset were compared for toll-like receptor (TLR) induced responses and microRNA profile changes. While pDCs derived from symptomatic mice were phenotypically comparable to pre-symptomatic ones, functionally they exhibited hypersensitivity to TLR7 but not TLR9 stimulation, as represented by the elevated upregulation of CD40, CD86 and MHC class II molecules upon R837 stimulation. Upregulated induction of miR-155 in symptomatic pDCs following TLR7 stimulation was observed. Transfection of miR-155 mimics in pre-symptomatic pDCs induced an augmented expression of Cd40, which is consistent with the increased CD40 expression in symptomatic pDCs. Overall, our results provide evidence for miR-155-mediated regulation in pDC functional abnormalities in SLE. Findings from this study contribute to a better understanding of SLE pathogenesis and ignite future interests in evaluating the molecular regulation in autoimmunity. 相似文献

To identify potential biomarkers for improving diagnosis of melioidosis, we compared plasma metabolome profiles of melioidosis patients compared to patients with other bacteremia and controls without active infection, using ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography-electrospray ionization-quadruple time-of-flight mass spectrometry. Principal component analysis (PCA) showed that the metabolomic profiles of melioidosis patients are distinguishable from bacteremia patients and controls. Using multivariate and univariate analysis, 12 significant metabolites from four lipid classes, acylcarnitine (n = 6), lysophosphatidylethanolamine (LysoPE) (n = 3), sphingomyelins (SM) (n = 2) and phosphatidylcholine (PC) (n = 1), with significantly higher levels in melioidosis patients than bacteremia patients and controls, were identified. Ten of the 12 metabolites showed area-under-receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) >0.80 when compared both between melioidosis and bacteremia patients, and between melioidosis patients and controls. SM(d18:2/16:0) possessed the largest AUC when compared, both between melioidosis and bacteremia patients (AUC 0.998, sensitivity 100% and specificity 91.7%), and between melioidosis patients and controls (AUC 1.000, sensitivity 96.7% and specificity 100%). Our results indicate that metabolome profiling might serve as a promising approach for diagnosis of melioidosis using patient plasma, with SM(d18:2/16:0) representing a potential biomarker. Since the 12 metabolites were related to various pathways for energy and lipid metabolism, further studies may reveal their possible role in the pathogenesis and host response in melioidosis. 相似文献

Dual polymer/zinc-coated concrete steel reinforcing bar (rebar) is a novel material intended to improve corrosion related durability in marine and deicing salt environments. Severe fabrication bending induces coating breaks and separation from the steel substrate, creating a crevice where some zinc corrosion takes place. EIS measurements to characterize that corrosion revealed spontaneous fluctuations that included variations in the size of the high frequency loop and sometimes strong intermediate frequency dispersion. This investigation examined the underlying causes for that behavior. The fluctuations were explained by formation and episodic release of hydrogen gas in the crevice underneath the disbonded coating, as a product of the cathodic reaction in corrosion of the zinc layer. The gas caused partial occlusion of the crevice and the crevice opening at tears in the coating. Gas occlusion increased the effective electrolytic resistance inside the crevice, and contributed to an enhanced transmission line configuration with associated frequency dispersion, especially notable in the intermediate frequency part of the impedance spectrum. A radial transmission line model was adopted as a simplified abstraction of the system. Properties of the radial transmission line impedance behavior are discussed. The model output replicated the key features of the measured impedance spectrum and its fluctuations, and permitted isolating the low frequency response as the most representative to evaluate corrosion conditions inside the crevice in subsequent research. 相似文献

The availability of high time-resolution (1 s full spectrum scan) particle sizers permitted atmospheric researchers to scrutinize the characteristics of ultrafine particles in rapidly varying (perhaps, random) high concentration environments such as roadside, on-road, and tunnels. These data also revealed possible artifacts associated with the slower (~ 30 s or more) scanning sizers when used in this kind of environment. Amorphous carbon thin films with a wide range of sp2 fraction from 20 to 90% grown by filtered cathodic arc deposition have been examined by ultraviolet (UV) at 325 nm and visible Raman spectroscopy at 457 nm excitation wavelength. The comprehensive study of behaviour of G, D and T band with sp2/sp3 content has been carried out. The upwards shift of the G peak with sp3 content was observed for both excitation wavelengths. It was also found that the I(D)/I(G) ratio decreases with sp3 content for UV and visible excitations, and for high sp3 content I(D)/I(G) tends to zero. The dispersion of the G peak is also investigated in this work as a function of sp2 content. 相似文献

A numerical investigation examining natural convection in a vertical parallel-plate channel with the simultaneous presence of laminar, transitional, and turbulent regimes is conducted using large-eddy simulation. The compressible three-dimensional Favre-filtered mass, momentum, and energy conservation equations are closed using the Smagorinsky and the Vreman subgrid-scale models. A two-stage predictor-corrector numerical methodology for low-Mach-number compressible flows is adopted. Time-averaged wall temperature and field profiles are well captured by the Vreman model, while the Smagorinsky model underpredicts wall behavior considerably. It is demonstrated that the present code is capable of capturing the flow development which is unachievable by conventional Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes approaches. 相似文献
