The objective of an astronomical adaptive optics control system is to minimize the residual wave-front error remaining on the science-object wave fronts after being compensated for atmospheric turbulence and telescope aberrations. Minimizing the mean square wave-front residual maximizes the Strehl ratio and the encircled energy in pointlike images and maximizes the contrast and resolution of extended images. We prove the separation principle of optimal control for application to adaptive optics so as to minimize the mean square wave-front residual. This shows that the residual wave-front error attributable to the control system can be decomposed into three independent terms that can be treated separately in design. The first term depends on the geometry of the wave-front sensor(s), the second term depends on the geometry of the deformable mirror(s), and the third term is a stochastic term that depends on the signal-to-noise ratio. The geometric view comes from understanding that the underlying quantity of interest, the wave-front phase surface, is really an infinite-dimensional vector within a Hilbert space and that this vector space is projected into subspaces we can control and measure by the deformable mirrors and wave-front sensors, respectively. When the control and estimation algorithms are optimal, the residual wave front is in a subspace that is the union of subspaces orthogonal to both of these projections. The method is general in that it applies both to conventional (on-axis, ground-layer conjugate) adaptive optics architectures and to more complicated multi-guide-star- and multiconjugate-layer architectures envisaged for future giant telescopes. We illustrate the approach by using a simple example that has been worked out previously [J. Opt. Soc. Am. A 73, 1171 (1983)] for a single-conjugate, static atmosphere case and follow up with a discussion of how it is extendable to general adaptive optics architectures.  相似文献

This approach proposes the creation and management of adaptive learning systems by combining component technology, semantic metadata, and adaptation rules. A component model allows interaction among components that share consistent assumptions about what each provides and each requires of the other. It allows indexing, using, reusing, and coupling of components in different contexts powering adaptation. Our claim is that semantic metadata are required to allow a real reusing and assembling of educational component. Finally, a rule language is used to define strategies to rewrite user query and user model. The former allows searching components developing concepts not appearing in the user query but related with user goals, whereas the last allow inferring user knowledge that is not explicit in user model.John Freddy Duitama received his M.Sc. degree in system engineering from the University of Antioquia -Colombia (South America). A combination of mass spectrometry, UV/Vis spectroscopy and molecular modelling techniques have been used to characterise the interaction of cisplatin with human serum transferrin (Tf). Mass spectrometry indicates that cisplatin binds to the hydroxy functional group of threonine 457, which is located in the iron(III)-binding site on the C-terminal lobe of the protein. UV/Vis spectroscopy confirms the stoichiometry of binding and shows that cisplatin and iron(III) binding are competitive. The binding of cisplatin has been modelled by using molecular dynamic simulations and the results suggest that cisplatin can occupy part of both the iron(III)- and carbonate-binding sites in the C-terminal lobe of the protein. Combined, the studies suggest that cisplatin binding sterically restricts iron(III) binding to the C-terminal lobe binding site, whereas the N-terminal lobe binding site appears to be unaffected by the cisplatin interaction, possibly allowing the iron(III)-induced conformational change necessary for binding to a Tf receptor.  相似文献

The study of the coagulation in rats fed with a balanced diet, including 12% of different animal or vegetable fats, during 6 months, shows that the time of coagulation in rats receiving one of the following oils: palm, sunflower, Canbra, is significantly higher than the ones fed with butter. On the other hand, the coagulation time observed in the groups is correlated with the oleic acid level in the corresponding diet. In situ quantum efficiencies were measured in Lake Superior over a 4-day period in 1978 and on one occasion in 1980. In 1980, experimental artifacts caused by exposing deep phytoplankton to elevated irradiances were minimized by the use of SCUBA divers. The trends of quantum efficiency with depth agreed well with theory. In the nutrient-limited upper portion of the euphotic zone, quantum efficiencies increased with depth, whereas in the light-limited lower portion of the euphotic zone, quantum efficiencies were relatively constant. Maximum quantum efficiencies calculated with downwelling irradiances ranged from 0.041 to 0.069 moles C fixed ? Einst abs?1 with a mean maximum quantum efficiency of 0.0538 ± 0.0025 moles C fixed ? Einst abs?1. Maximum quantum efficiencies in morning experiments ranged from 0.041 to 0.053 moles C fixed ? Einst abs?1 and were slightly less than noon values, 0.057 to 0.067 moles C fixed ? Einst abs?1. Correction for scalar irradiance would reduce all quantum efficiencies by 25%.  相似文献

Abstract: To assess the ability of lactic acid bacteria to improve some nutritional characteristics of the pearl millet–soybean slurry to prepare complementary foods for young children in African countries, inoculation was performed using strains previously selected for their ability to hydrolyse starch, phytate, or α-galactooligosaccharides (α-GOS). For the sake of comparison with the action of a natural microflora, fermentation was also performed by back slopping inoculation, that is, with a sample obtained from spontaneously fermented traditional pearl millet slurry obtained from a small scale processing unit in Burkina Faso (Ouagadougou). Starter cultures thrived on the slurry as shown by counts on MRS agar, TTGE fingerprints, and fermentation patterns. The fermentation of precooked slurries inoculated by back slopping or with mixed cultures containing the amylolytic strain Lb. plantarum A6 enabled partial starch hydrolysis. Corresponding gruels had a suitable consistency for young child feeding at high dry matter content, and a high energy density: 88.7 ± 4.2 and 75.8 ± 5.1 kcal/100 g of sweetened gruel, for the gruels inoculated by back slopping or with Lb. plantarum A6, respectively. Unexpectedly, no decrease in phytates was observed in any of the experiments, suggesting the presence of one or more inhibitory compounds in soybean. Furthermore, preprocessing conditions before fermentation affect the carbohydrate composition of slurry and have a more profound effect than fermentation on the reduction of the α-GOS content. Practical Application: This research aims to investigate the capacity of selected lactic acid bacteria to produce in a bioprocess high energy density and nutritious gruels for complementary feeding of young children from an African cereal (pearl millet) mixed with soybean.  相似文献

An intermediate molecular weight contrast agent P760 was used to investigate the ability of multi-slice dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI (DCE-MRI) to distinguish metastatic from non-metastatic rodent prostate tumors. Non-metastatic AT2.1 and metastatic AT3.1 prostate tumors originally derived from the Dunning prostate cancer model were implanted on the hind leg of Copenhagen rats. Multi-sliced DCE-MRI data were acquired on a SIGNA 1.5 T scanner and analyzed using a recently developed empirical mathematical model. The P760 multi-slice DCE-MRI data in combination with the empirical mathematical model successfully distinguished between metastatic and non-metastatic rodent prostate tumors. Specifically, fitting the data with the empirical model showed that metastatic tumors had significantly faster contrast media uptake (p<0.001) and slower washout rates (p<0.01) than non-metastatic tumors  相似文献
