Ambiguity in Structure from Motion: Sphere versus Plane   总被引:1,自引:1,他引:0  
If 3D rigid motion can be correctly estimated from image sequences, the structure of the scene can be correctly derived using the equations for image formation. However, an error in the estimation of 3D motion will result in the computation of a distorted version of the scene structure. Of computational interest are these regions in space where the distortions are such that the depths become negative, because in order for the scene to be visible it has to lie in front of the image, and thus the corresponding depth estimates have to be positive. The stability analysis for the structure from motion problem presented in this paper investigates the optimal relationship between the errors in the estimated translational and rotational parameters of a rigid motion that results in the estimation of a minimum number of negative depth values. The input used is the value of the flow along some direction, which is more general than optic flow or correspondence. For a planar retina it is shown that the optimal configuration is achieved when the projections of the translational and rotational errors on the image plane are perpendicular. Furthermore, the projection of the actual and the estimated translation lie on a line through the center. For a spherical retina, given a rotational error, the optimal translation is the correct one; given a translational error, the optimal rotational negative deptherror depends both in direction and value on the actual and estimated translation as well as the scene in view. The proofs, besides illuminating the confounding of translation and rotation in structure from motion, have an important application to ecological optics. The same analysis provides a computational explanation of why it is easier to estimate self-motion in the case of a spherical retina and why shape can be estimated easily in the case of a planar retina, thus suggesting that nature's design of compound eyes (or panoramic vision) for flying systems and camera-type eyes for primates (and other systems that perform manipulation) is optimal.  相似文献

Three crystalliferous (Cry+) strains of Bacillus thuringiensis subsp. israelensis (serotype 14) that produce parasporal protein crystals toxic to dipteran larvae and several acrystalliferous (Cry-) mutants, either induced or spontaneously derived from a single Cry+ parent, were examined for the presence of covalently closed circular (CCC) DNA in attempts to correlate toxin production with the presence of a specific plasmid. The plasmid profiles of both Cry+ and Cry- variants were analyzed by both a cleared lysate- and a modified Eckhardt lysate-electrophoresis technique. All of the Cry- mutants derived from the Cry+ parental strain had lost a 4.0- to 4.4-megadalton (Mdal) plasmid. Bioassay data confirmed loss of toxin production by the Cry- variants. All three Cry+ strains, including the parent of the Cry- strains, contained CCC plasmids DNAs of the following approximate molecular weights: 4.0 to 4.4, 5.2 to 6.0, and 11.4 to 13.0 Mdal. One Cry+ strain contained an additional CCC plasmid of 6.7 to 7.2 Mdal. The plasmid patterns for several Cry- derivatives differed in other respects from the pattern for their parent strain. The various Cry+ and Cry- strains could be distinguished either by phenotypical differences in antibiotic sensitivity, crystal production, and toxicity, or by differences in their plasmid profiles.  相似文献

Alanine : glyoxylate aminotransferase is one of three different enzymes used for glycine synthesis in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The open reading frame YFL030w (named AGX1 in the following), encoding this enzyme, was identified by comparing enzyme specific activities in knockout strains. While 100% activity was detectable in the parental strain, 2% was found in a YFL030w::kanMX4 strain. The ORF found at that locus was suspected to encode alanine : glyoxylate aminotransferase because its predicted amino acid sequence showed 23% identity to the human homologue. Since the YFL030w::kanMX4 strain showed no glycine auxtrophic phenotype, AGX1 was replaced by KanMX4 in a Delta GLY1 Delta SHM1 Delta SHM2 background. These background mutations, which cause inactivation of threonine aldolase, mitochondrial and cytosolic serine hydroxymethyltransferase, respectively, lead to a conditional glycine auxotrophy. This means that growth is not possible on glucose but on ethanol as the sole carbon source. Additional disruption of AGX1 revealed a complete glycine auxotrophy. Complementation was observed by transformation with a plasmid-encoded AGX1.  相似文献

There is a controversy about the biocompatibility of silicon nitride ceramics contained in the literature, which appears to be related to a factor of the individual chemical composition of different qualities of silicon nitride ceramics and of the different surface properties. This study attempts to investigate the cytotoxicity of different qualities of industrial silicon nitride ceramics applying an L929-cell culture model in a direct contact assay combined with a cell viability assessment. Five different qualities of industrial standard silicon nitride ceramics were chosen for in vitro testing. The chemical composition was determined by EDS analysis. Different biomedically approved aluminium oxide qualities, a titanium alloy, glass and polyvinylchloride (PVC) served as control materials. L929 mice fibroblasts were incubated directly on the materials for 24 h, stained with bisbenzimide and propidium iodine for double fluorochromasia viability testing, and evaluated by inversion-fluorescence microscopy to control cell morphology, viability and cell counts compared to empty well values. Scanning electron microscopy was applied to additionally investigate cell morphology. There was no observation of cytotoxic effects on the silicon nitride ceramic samples; moreover cell morphology remained the same as on aluminium oxide and titanium. Viability testing revealed the presence of avital cells exclusively on PVC, which served as a negative control. Cell counts on all polished surfaces showed significantly higher numbers, whereas some rough surface samples showed significantly lower numbers. We conclude that silicon nitride ceramics show no cytotoxic effects and should be considered for biomedical application owing to its favourable physiochemical properties, especially its superior resistance to mechanical stress, which would be useful for compression loaded conditions. Polished surfaces would appear to promote advanced biocompatibility.  相似文献

This Letter evaluates several narrow-band indices from EO-1 Hyperion imagery in discriminating sugarcane areas affected by ‘orange rust’ (Puccinia kuehnii) disease. Forty spectral vegetation indices (SVIs), focusing on bands related to leaf pigments, leaf internal structure, and leaf water content, were generated from an image acquired over Mackay, Queensland, Australia. Discriminant function analysis was used to select an optimum set of indices based on their correlations with the discriminant function. The predictive ability of each index was also assessed based on the accuracy of classification. Results demonstrated that Hyperion imagery can be used to detect orange rust disease in sugarcane crops. While some indices that only used visible near-infrared (VNIR) bands (e.g. SIPI and R800/R680) offer separability, the combination of VNIR bands with the moisture-sensitive band (1660?nm) yielded increased separability of rust-affected areas. The newly formulated ‘Disease–Water Stress Indices' (DWSI-1=R800/R1660; DSWI-2=R1660/R550; DWSI-5=(R800+R550)/(R1660+R680)) produced the largest correlations, indicating their superior ability to discriminate sugarcane areas affected by orange rust disease.  相似文献

New sulfated zirconias covering a wide range of pore diameters from micropores to macropores have been prepared by a combined use of two different structure-directing templates. The catalytic performance of these sulfated zirconias for the n-butane isomerization could be improved significantly compared to a standard displaying a maximum rate of isomerization of 1490 μmol/g h at 423 K. The materials remained their high activity even at 348 K. Moreover, deactivated materials could be reactivated to the original activity in an air-flow at 673 K several times. The newly designed materials were fully characterized by XRD, XPS, TPD of ammonia, IR spectroscopy and N2 adsorption to describe the formation of active surface centres and their morphology. The formation of active pyrosulfates with sulfate bands above 1400 cm?1 was followed by DRIFTS. An increased ratio of Brønsted-to-Lewis centres could be detected which can be accounted for the unexpected high activity.  相似文献
