An approach was developed to evaluate ecotoxicological effects in river basins impacted by anthropic industrial discharges. Genotoxicity was the first level of evaluation of the river water, but when cytotoxicity was associated with genotoxic effects, our research group added chronic assays allowing the assessment of the ontogenic cycle in environmental diagnosis. The genotoxicity of river water sampled during two periods was compared using the microscreen phage-induction and Salmonella/microsome assays. The study assessed the ability of these assays to diagnose environmental quality in an area where petrochemical impacts occur. The study was performed at six sampling sites using the Salmonella/microsome assay for 10 sampling periods and the microscreen phage-induction assay for 15 samplings. The percentage of mutagenic activity was higher at the sites sampled in front of the petrochemical complex in both periods, but there were more significant mutagenic responses in the first assessment. However, comparing the percentages of samples with mutagenic and cytotoxic activity observed during the two periods it becomes clear that there are more cytotoxic samples during the second period throughout the area studied. The genotoxic activity analyzed by the microscreen phage-induction assay was constant in the second period. Chronic toxicity studies with the microcrustacean Daphnia magna confirm the toxic effects observed. The mortality of individuals was higher at the site most influenced by the petrochemical complex, followed by the station located upstream from this area, while the formation of ephippial eggs was uniform at all stations. The rise in the toxic potential of the region detected by cytotoxic and chronic toxicity may interfere and probably impair the use of the Salmonella/microsome assay to determine the potential of the area, showing the importance of assay association to evaluate potentially contaminated areas.  相似文献

DFT periodic calculations have been used to study the influence of an external electric field on the adsorption of CO on Pt(1 1 1). Particular attention has been focused on the determination of the CO and metal-CO vibrational Stark tuning rates. Stark tuning rates have been calculated at various CO coverages; a linear dependence between the CO Stark tuning rate and the CO surface coverage has been found. We have calculated a value of 68.94 cm−1/(V/Å) for the zero-coverage limit CO Stark tuning rate, in good agreement with the experimental value of 75 ± 9 cm−1/(V/Å). Like the CO Stark tuning rate, the metal-CO vibrational Stark tuning rate also increases as CO surface coverage decreases. In addition, we have found (at 0.25 ML) that the CO Stark tuning rate is similar at different adsorption sites, being only slightly larger at high-coordinated sites. CO vibrational Stark tuning rates of 45.58, 47.96, 47.61 and 48.49 cm−1/(V/Å) have been calculated for ontop, bridge, hcp and fcc hollow sites, respectively. Calculations at high coverage using a (2 × 2)-3CO model yield a CO Stark tuning rate of 21.08 and 25.93 cm−1/(V/Å) for ontop and three-fold hollow CO, respectively. These results show that the CO Stark tuning rate for CO adsorbed at high coordinated sites is only slightly larger than that at ontop sites. This result is in contradiction with experiments, which reported larger CO Stark tuning rates at high-coordinates sites than at ontop sites. Furthermore, the calculated metal-CO stretch is larger for ontop sites than for high-coordinated sites; this result is in disagreement with previous DFT cluster model calculations. Unfortunately, there is not experimental information available to support either result. Finally, we have also studied the CO adsorption site preference dependence on electric fields. We have found that CO adsorbs preferentially at high coordinated sites at more negative fields, and at ontop sites at more positive fields, in agreement with previous experiments and DFT cluster model calculations.  相似文献

Abstract

To achieve high coding efficiency, modern speech coders adopt hybrid coding approaches, which utilize different coding mechanisms for various classified speech segments. With known voiced/unvoiced detection, in this paper, a classified LPC quantization (CLPQ) scheme is presented to effectively encode line spectral frequencies (LSF). The proposed CLPQ scheme improves the performance of the classified LSF vector quantizer, which adopts two LSF codebooks derived separately from voiced and unvoiced speech frames. With an objective spectral distortion measure, the CLPQ scheme successfully reduces the bit rate by about 1 bit/frame. Many classified LSF quantizers with different codebook structures and bit rates were evaluated. It would be helpful to design a classified LSF quantizer, which arrives at a compromise between distortion, bit rate and computational complexity.  相似文献

Abstract

The focal shift effect in converging spherical waves diffracted by circular apertures is analysed, based on a geometrical interpretation of the mathematical expressions taken from scalar wave theory. The approach leads to a quasi-exact formula for the axial complex amplitude without the need for calculating any integral. The procedures can naturally be extended to image-forming instruments and an application to a single-lens system is also presented.  相似文献

ABSTRACT: Here, we present a systematic study about the effect of the pore length and its diameter on the specular reflection in nanoporous anodic alumina. As we demonstrate, the specular reflection can be controlled at will by structural tuning (i.e., by designing the pore geometry). This makes it possible to produce a wide range of Fabry-Pérot interferometers based on nanoporous anodic alumina, which are envisaged for developing smart and accurate optical sensors in such research fields as biotechnology and medicine. Additionally, to systematize the responsiveness to external changes in optical sensors based on nanoporous anodic alumina, we put forward a barcode system based on the oscillations in the specular reflection.  相似文献

Langmuir‐Hinselwood (LH) and power rate equations were applied to describe the kinetics of the Fischer‐Tropsch reaction on cobalt catalysts and manganese‐doped cobalt catalysts supported on carbon nanotubes (CNTs). LH‐based kinetics characterize the activity behavior of the unpromoted Co/CNT system satisfactorily, but fail with respect to the manganese‐promoted Co/CNT catalyst. An alternative LH equation is able to fit the experimental data, but the fitting parameters are out of the range of usual values and underrate the activity at ambient pressure regardless of manganese promotion. Application of power law rate expressions results in satisfying characterization of the kinetics in the whole CO pressure range in the promoted case and within a defined range of CO pressure in the unpromoted case.  相似文献

The influence of the anodization temperature and of the number of applied voltage cycles on the photonic properties of nanoporous anodic alumina-based distributed-Bragg reflectors obtained by cyclic voltage anodization is analyzed. Furthermore, the possibility of tuning the stop band central wavelength with a pore-widening treatment after anodization and its combined effect with temperature has been studied by means of scanning electron microscopy and spectroscopic transmittance measurements. The spectra for samples measured right after anodization show irregular stop bands, which become better defined with the pore widening process. The results show that with 50 applied voltage cycles, stop bands are obtained and that increasing the number of cycles contributes to enhancing the photonic stop bands (specially for the case of the as-produced samples) but at the expense of increased scattering losses. The anodization temperature is a crucial factor in the tuning of the photonic stop bands, with a linear rate of 42 nm/°C. The pore widening permits further tuning to reach stop bands with central wavelengths as low as 500 nm. Furthermore, the results also show that applying different anodization temperatures does not have a great influence in the pore-widening rate or in the photonic stop band width.  相似文献

Our knowledge of the response properties of visual cortical neurons has increased steadily since the original studies of Hubel and Wiesel in the 1960s. By comparison, an understanding of the neural mechanisms responsible for these properties has proved more elusive. Models for the mechanisms involved in even the most basic responses, such as the orientation tuning of simple cells in the primary visual cortex of the cat, remain controversial. Recent studies, however, are providing further support for a simple model (first suggested by Hubel and Wiesel), in which it is hypothesized that the response properties of simple cells in layer 4 of the cortex are dominated by the convergence of highly specific thalamic inputs.  相似文献
