Macrophage Membrane-Coated Nanoparticles Sensitize Glioblastoma to Radiation by Suppressing Proneural–Mesenchymal Transformation in Glioma Stem Cells

Radiotherapy is identified as a crucial treatment for patients with glioblastoma, but recurrence is inevitable. The efficacy of radiotherapy is severely hampered partially due to the tumor evolution. Growing evidence suggests that proneural glioma stem cells can acquire mesenchymal features coupled with increased radioresistance. Thus, a better understanding of mechanisms underlying tumor subclonal evolution may develop new strategies. Herein, data highlighting a positive correlation between the accumulation of macrophage in the glioblastoma microenvironment after irradiation and mesenchymal transdifferentiation in glioblastoma are presented. Mechanistically, elevated production of inflammatory cytokines released by macrophages promotes mesenchymal transition in an NF-κB-dependent manner. Hence, rationally designed macrophage membrane-coated porous mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MMNs) in which therapeutic anti-NF-κB peptides are loaded for enhancing radiotherapy of glioblastoma are constructed. The combination of MMNs and fractionated irradiation results in the blockage of tumor evolution and therapy resistance in glioblastoma-bearing mice. Intriguingly, the macrophage invasion across the blood-brain barrier is inhibited competitively by MMNs, suggesting that these nanoparticles can fundamentally halt the evolution of radioresistant clones. Taken together, the biomimetic MMNs represent a promising strategy that prevents mesenchymal transition and improves therapeutic response to irradiation as well as overall survival in patients with glioblastoma.

The effect of curing on the crystallization of poly(phenylene sulfide)

Summary Poly(phenylene sulfide) (PPS) was cured in the melt and solid states under air and/or nitrogen environments. Crystallization behavior of such cured materials as a function of cure time at 320°C and 255°C was studied via differential scanning calorimetry. It was found, on general, that while short-time curing leads to an increase in crystallization rate, prolonged curing leads to a decrease in both crystallinity and crystallization rate. In contrast to the enhanced crystallization rate caused by curing in nitrogen at the melt state, no significant change of crystallization rate is observed while curing is done in the solid state (in nitrogen).

Experiencing flow with instant messaging and its facilitating role on creative behaviors

The goal of this study is to explore how experiencing flow with IM, an Internet-based communication technology, can facilitate an individual’s perception on creativity. We argue that certain capabilities in IM, telepresence and perceived control, provide users a means to experience flow. We further investigate whether flow and its outcomes, positive affect and exploratory behavior have any influence on the perception of creativity of the users. Using an online survey with 207 observations we found that user’s perceived control over the technology and its ability to transport the user to a virtual environment were shown to facilitate the experience of flow. We found that flow in itself does not influence perceived expected creativity in its users but does indirectly influence perceived expected creativity through exploratory behavior and positive affect. From these initial findings we believe that our study provides implications for both users and designers on IT. Furthermore, managers can apply the findings during implementation and use of interactive information technologies for communications in the workplace.     

An effective scheduling scheme for multi-hop multicast in wireless mesh networks

With the utilization of concurrent transmission strategy, a throughput-enhanced scheduling scheme is devised for multicast service in wireless multi-hop mesh networks. Since the performance of a multicast mechanism is constrained in a wireless setting due to the interference among local wireless transmissions, the interference relationships are first characterized by introducing a graph transformation method. Based on the graph transformation, the multicast scheduling problem is converted to the graph coloring problem, and then a capacity greedy algorithm is designed to provide concurrent transmission scheduling so that the demanded multicast transmission rate can be achieved. Moreover, the necessary and sufficient conditions of multicast schedulable feasibility are derived. Through corresponding simulations, it is shown that the proposed strategy can enhance the throughput of wireless multi-hop multicast systems significantly.     

The implementation guidance for practicing network isolation by referring to ISO-17799 standard

In these years, the company budgets are raised dramatically for eliminating the security problems or mitigating the security risks in companies, but the numbers of incidents happening on computer systems in intranet or internet are still increasing. Many researchers proposed the way–to isolate the computers storing sensitive information for preventing information on these computers revealed or vulnerability on these computers exploited. However, there are few materials available for implementing network isolation. In this paper, we define ways of network isolation, “physical isolation” and “logical isolation”. In ISO-17799, there is no implementation guidance for practicing network logical isolation but auditing network physical isolation. This paper also provides the implementation guidance of network isolation in two aspects. One is for the technique viewpoints. The other aspect is for management viewpoints. These proposed implementation outlines and security measures will be considered in revising the security plan, “The Implementation Plan for Information Security Level in Government Departments” [“The implementation plan for information security level in government departments,” National Information and Communication Security Taskforce, Taiwan R.O.C., Programs, Jul. 20 2005].     

智能仪表非线性自动校正方法研究

针对智能仪表不便于进行复杂计算、内存有限和实时性要求高等特点,在比较了几种常用的非线性校正方法的基础上,通过对智能仪表的非线性特性曲线的一般性分析,运用分段直线逼近曲线的方法,给出了一种通用的智能仪表非线性自动校正算法.同时讨论了该算法的原理、修正方法及校正参数的存储结构.并详细介绍了该算法在称重仪表中的具体应用.实践证明这种算法简单、实用,效果良好.
