Here, the operation of a field‐effect transistor based on a single InAs nanowire gated by an ionic liquid is reported. Liquid gating yields very efficient carrier modulation with a transconductance value 30 times larger than standard back gating with the SiO2/Si++ substrate. Thanks to this wide modulation, the controlled evolution from semiconductor to metallic‐like behavior in the nanowire is shown. This work provides the first systematic study of ionic‐liquid gating in electronic devices based on individual III–V semiconductor nanowires: this architecture opens the way to a wide range of fundamental and applied studies from the phase transitions to bioelectronics.  相似文献

Colloidal quantum dots (QDs) are widely studied due to their promising optoelectronic properties. This study explores the application of specially designed and synthesized “giant” core/shell CdSe/(CdS)x QDs with variable CdS shell thickness, while keeping the core size at 1.65 nm, as a highly efficient and stable light harvester for QD sensitized solar cells (QDSCs). The comparative study demonstrates that the photovoltaic performance of QDSCs can be significantly enhanced by optimizing the CdS shell thickness. The highest photoconversion efficiency (PCE) of 3.01% is obtained at optimum CdS shell thickness ≈1.96 nm. To further improve the PCE and fully highlight the effect of core/shell QDs interface engineering, a CdSex S1?x interfacial alloyed layer is introduced between CdSe core and CdS shell. The resulting alloyed CdSe/(CdSex S1?x )5/(CdS)1 core/shell QD‐based QDSCs yield a maximum PCE of 6.86%, thanks to favorable stepwise electronic band alignment and improved electron transfer rate with the incorporation of CdSex S1?x interfacial layer with respect to CdSe/(CdS)6 core/shell. In addition, QDSCs based on “giant” core/CdS‐shell or alloyed core/shell QDs exhibit excellent long‐term stability with respect to bare CdSe‐based QDSCs. The giant core/shell QDs interface engineering methodology offers a new path to improve PCE and the long‐term stability of liquid junction QDSCs.  相似文献

In Fifth Generation (5G) Heterogeneous Mobile Networks (HetNets), deploying dense small cell networks makes user association more challenging. The process of collecting cell load information from the User Equipments (UEs) and broadcasting the feedback message involves significant overhead and time complexity. Moreover, the UEs may not know the optimum cell to reselect, satisfying its data rate requirements. In order to overcome these drawbacks, in this paper, we propose to design an Hierarchical and Hybrid Cell Load Balancing (HHCLB) technique using Selective Handoff. In this technique, the UEs of each cell are grouped into clusters depending on their proximity distance. Each cluster contains a cluster controller (CC) which is in charge of determining the intra-cell load and redirecting the cell-reselection request of a UE. If the data rate of any UE in a cluster becomes less than its required rate, then the cell reselection process is performed. By simulation results, it is shown that load balancing can be done proactively (implicitly) by the CCs when the load is unbalanced or can be done on demand (explicitly) when a UE send a request for cell reselection. In the case of Macro cells, HHCLB attains 71% higher throughput for low load scenario and 59% higher throughput for high load scenario. Similarly, in the case of Femto cells, HHCLB attains 19% higher throughput for low load scenario and 27% higher throughput for high load scenario.  相似文献

In the last few years the wireless metropolitan area networks (WMANs) have increased their popularity and attracted the interest of important research groups all over the world; as a consequence, several standards have been proposed. Among them, the IEEE 802.16 (WiMAX) is one of the most promising standard to carry out a full‐service broadband wireless network in an urban and suburban area. This standard provides high data rate within a wide coverage area with low implementation costs, possibility of multi‐traffic communications, and different network topologies. This paper deals with the analysis and performance comparison of different scheduling techniques for WiMAX networks for allowing quality of service (QoS) differentiation when different types of applications have to be supported and achieving a fair distribution of resource among users. In particular, the focus here is on the resource allocation problem for the case of mobile stations (MSs) active in an urban environment. The proposed scheduling algorithms exploit the orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) scheme with adaptive modulation techniques in order to achieve a better network behavior. Fraglets represent an execution model for communication protocols that resembles the chemical reactions in living organisms. The strong connection between their way of transforming and reacting and formal rewriting systems makes a fraglet program amenable to automatic verification. Grounded on past work, this paper investigates feasibility of adopting fraglets as model for specifying security protocols and analysing their properties. In particular, we give concrete sample analyses over a secure RFID protocol, showing evolution of the protocol run as chemical dynamics and simulating an adversary trying to circumvent the intended steps. The results of our analysis confirm the effectiveness of the cryptofraglets framework for the model and analysis of security properties and eventually show its potential to identify and uncover protocol flaws.  相似文献

Laryngotracheal stenosis (LTS) is a complex and heterogeneous disease whose pathogenesis remains unclear. LTS is considered to be the result of aberrant wound-healing process that leads to fibrotic scarring, originating from different aetiology. Although iatrogenic aetiology is the main cause of subglottic or tracheal stenosis, also autoimmune and infectious diseases may be involved in causing LTS. Furthermore, fibrotic obstruction in the anatomic region under the glottis can also be diagnosed without apparent aetiology after a comprehensive workup; in this case, the pathological process is called idiopathic subglottic stenosis (iSGS). So far, the laryngotracheal scar resulting from airway injury due to different diseases was considered as inert tissue requiring surgical removal to restore airway patency. However, this assumption has recently been revised by regarding the tracheal scarring process as a fibroinflammatory event due to immunological alteration, similar to other fibrotic diseases. Recent acquisitions suggest that different factors, such as growth factors, cytokines, altered fibroblast function and genetic susceptibility, can all interact in a complex way leading to aberrant and fibrotic wound healing after an insult that acts as a trigger. However, also physiological derangement due to LTS could play a role in promoting dysregulated response to laryngo-tracheal mucosal injury, through biomechanical stress and mechanotransduction activation. The aim of this narrative review is to present the state-of-the-art knowledge regarding molecular mechanisms, as well as mechanical and physio-pathological features behind LTS.  相似文献

The CDK4/6 inhibitors (CDKi) palbociclib, ribociclib, and abemaciclib are currently approved in combination with anti-estrogen therapy for the treatment of advanced and/or metastatic hormone receptor-positive/HER2-neu-negative breast cancer patients. Given the high incidence of bone metastases in this population, we investigated and compared the potential effects of palbociclib, ribociclib, and abemaciclib on the breast cancer bone microenvironment. Primary osteoclasts (OCs) and osteoblasts (OBs) were obtained from human monocyte and mesenchymal stem cells, respectively. OC function was evaluated by tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase assay and real-time PCR; OB activity was assessed by an alizarin red assay. OB/breast cancer co-culture models were generated via the seeding of MCF-7 cells on a layer of OBs, and tumor cell proliferation was analyzed using flow cytometry. Here, we showed that ribociclib, palbociclib, and abemaciclib exerted similar inhibitory effects on the OC differentiation and expression of bone resorption markers without affecting OC viability. On the other hand, the three CDKi did not affect the ability of OB to produce bone matrix, even if the higher doses of palbociclib and abemaciclib reduced the OB viability. In OB/MCF-7 co-culture models, palbociclib demonstrated a lower anti-tumor effect than ribociclib and abemaciclib. Overall, our results revealed the direct effects of CDKi on the tumor bone microenvironment, highlighting differences potentially relevant for clinical practice.  相似文献

Amorphous silicon solar cells were deposited on porcelain stoneware tiles in order to develop a fully integrated PV building element. In a previous work we demonstrated the feasibility of adopting porcelain stoneware tiles as thin-film solar cell substrates and we fabricated solar cells on “industrial-level” ceramic substrates showing more than 4% efficiency. In this study we focus our attention on larger area devices deposited on tiles. As the active area increases additional problems arise from the surface of the substrate. In particular we find that short-circuit paths originate from the unfavorable properties of the substrate tiles (roughness, porosity, etc.) having dramatic consequences on the performance of larger area devices. With the assumption that spot-like regions, in which the back layer and the front layer are in electrical contact (local short-circuits), are present all over the device, we propose a new device structure to overcome the substrate drawbacks. A new contacts arrangement was designed in order to minimize the shunting effect of short-circuit paths. As a result an initial efficiency of 2.5% has been obtained using the new device structure for devices deposited on a PV mini-module tile.  相似文献
