A sensor based on a screen-printed electrode (SPE) modified with a stable dispersion of commercially available carbon black (CB) N220 was optimised and challenged with several thiol-containing compounds. This probe showed a significantly enhanced electrochemical activity respect to a bare SPE when tested with thiocholine, cysteine, glutathione and cysteamine. When challenged in amperometric batch mode, the response was stable and showed a linear dependence up to 1 × 10−5 mol l−1 for thiocholine and cysteine. The very high sensitivity towards these thiols (299 mA mol−1 l cm−2 for thiocholine and 441 mA mol−1 l cm−2 for cysteine) was then used as the basis for developing an analytical method for mercury ion detection since a non electroactive complex (thiol–Hg) is formed in the presence of the metal. By selecting an appropriate concentration of thiocholine, a concentration of mercury as low as 5 × 10−9 mol l−1 (1 ppb) was detected. Satisfactory recovery was obtained when the system was tested on drinking water samples.  相似文献

The effect of pre-stress on the propagation of small amplitude waves in an incompressible, transversely isotropic elastic solid is discussed in respect of the most general appropriate strain energy function. A simple set of sufficient conditions is noted which ensures that two real wave speeds exist for all directions of propagation. In the case of bi-axial primary deformations, and for propagation within each principal plane of the homogeneous primary deformation, the propagation condition is factorised and conditions which are both necessary and sufficient to ensure the existence of two real wave speeds are established. The paper also includes some graphical illustrations of the associated slowness and wave surfaces and discussion of the strongly anisotropic case, for which the extensional modulus along the preferred fibre direction is much larger than other material parameters.  相似文献

An approach for fabrication of microfiltration membranes by solvent extraction of one of the immiscible components from a polymer blend was developed. Poly(4‐methyl‐1‐pentene) (PMP) was the membrane material, and poly(isobutylene) (PIB) was the extractable component. The PIB content varied in the wide range 0–45 wt%, and all blends could be melted and processed at a temperature of 240 °C. A rheological study demonstrated a pronounced non‐Newtonian behavior of PMP/PIB blends and their very low viscosity due to interlayer slip. With a PMP content of 55 and 60 wt%, it was possible to fabricate microfiltration membranes with a water permeability of 31 and 3.7 m3 m?2 h–1 bar–1, respectively. The microfiltration membranes based on both compositions demonstrated good rejection performance at the level of 93%–98% for submicron particles of phthalocyanine dye with a size of 240 nm. These results indicate that the PMP/PIB system can be utilized for fabrication of filtration membranes by means of 3D printing followed by solvent extraction. © 2019 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

From 1998 through 2006, four outbreaks of salmonellosis associated with raw, frozen, microwaveable, breaded, prebrowned, stuffed chicken products were identified in Minnesota. In 1998, 33 Salmonella Typhimurium cases were associated with a single brand of Chicken Kiev. In 2005, four Salmonella Heidelberg cases were associated with a different brand and variety (Chicken Broccoli and Cheese). From 2005 to 2006, 27 Salmonella Enteritidis cases were associated with multiple varieties of product, predominately of the same brand involved in the 1998 outbreak. In 2006, three Salmonella Typhimurium cases were associated with the same brand of product involved in the 2005 Salmonella Heidelberg outbreak. The outbreak serotype and pulsed-field gel electrophoresis subtype of Salmonella were isolated from product in each outbreak. In these outbreaks, most individuals affected thought that the product was precooked due to its breaded and prebrowned nature, most used a microwave oven, most did not follow package cooking instructions, and none took the internal temperature of the cooked product. Similar to previous salmonellosis outbreaks associated with raw, breaded chicken nuggets or strips in Canada and Australia, inadequate labeling, consumer responses to labeling, and microwave cooking were the key factors in the occurrence of these outbreaks. Modification of labels, verification of cooking instructions by the manufacturer, and notifications to alert the public that these products contain raw poultry, implemented because of the first two outbreaks, did not prevent the other outbreaks. Microwave cooking is not recommended as a preparation method for these types of products, unless they are precooked or irradiated prior to sale.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to develop experience in acquiring water mobility and moisture data that could be used to develop improved models for predicting water loss during osmotic dehydration and/or air-drying. One-dimensional magnetic resonance imaging protocols were used to follow temporal and spatial changes in water mobility via T2 profiles, water content via M0 profiles, and structural shrinkage of strawberry slices during osmotic dehydration with 600 g/kg aqueous sucrose over 2 h. Those measurements were also made for 1 h during air-drying of normal and osmotically dried slices at 20, 30, 45 and 60 °C. Air-drying above 20 °C resulted in changes in the strawberry matrix, which suggests the need for a model that incorporates the interaction between the strawberry tissue and the water that diffuses during drying. Modelling of the air-drying of osmotically pretreated slices would be complicated by the variable amounts of sucrose solution remaining after osmotic dehydration.  相似文献

In polyphenols redox systems, the solvent plays a fundamental role in the chemical behaviour of these compounds. Antioxidants can react in different ways with the prooxidant molecules. We have found differences in the antioxidant capacity of flavonoids such as naringin, neohesperidin, neoericitrin, hesperidin, narirutin didymin and the related flavones naringenin, hesperetin eriodictyol and isosakuatenin, when they are in the presence of radicals and solved in water or in an alcohol mixture.  相似文献

Active and pH-sensitive nano-fillers were prepared from natural and modified montmorillonite (Mnt) and nanopackaged with anthocyanins extracted from the Jamaica (Hibiscus sabdariffa) flower. These were then used to reinforce corn (Zea mays) starch-based films plasticized with glycerol, and processed by extrusion and thermo-molding. Seven film systems were investigated for their potential as “active and intelligent” (A&I) bionanocomposite films with improved properties. The thermal and mechanical properties of the bionanocomposite films obtained were enhanced largely due to the added modified clay nano-fillers, and the nanopackaging of the anthocyanins between the nano-clay layers. Unfortunately, however, the bionanocomposite films failed as A&I materials, despite the supposed effect of the nano-clays as protective nano-encapsulating materials for the active and pH-sensitive compound (anthocyanins). The results obtained suggest that the exfoliation of the nano-fillers as a consequence of the shear forces inside the extruder led to the exposure of the anthocyanins during extrusion. Because of this, we consider the large-scale development of A&I biodegradable films incorporating natural pigments very unlikely being processed by extrusion/thermo-molding, since there are several significant processes involved in the techniques currently available in the food and polymer industries that leave the active and pH-sensitive compounds unprotected.  相似文献

The production of biochemicals requires the use of microbial strains with efficient substrate conversion and excellent environmental robustness, such as Weizmannia coagulans species. So far, the genomes of 47 strains have been sequenced. Herein, we report a comparative genomic analysis of nine strains on the full repertoire of Carbohydrate-Active enZymes (CAZymes), secretion systems, and resistance mechanisms to environmental challenges. Moreover, Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats (CRISPR) immune system along with CRISPR-associated (Cas) genes, was also analyzed. Overall, this study expands our understanding of the strain’s genomic diversity of W. coagulans to fully exploit its potential in biotechnological applications.  相似文献

γ-Aminobutyric acid type A receptors (GABAARs) mediate primarily inhibitory synaptic transmission in the central nervous system. Following fast-paced activation, which provides the selective flow of mainly chloride (Cl) and less bicarbonate (HCO3) ions via the pore, these receptors undergo desensitization that is paradoxically prevented by the process of their recovery, referred to as resensitization. To clarify the mechanism of resensitization, we used the cortical synaptoneurosomes from the rat brain and HEK 293FT cells. Here, we describe the effect of γ-phosphate analogues (γPAs) that mimic various states of ATP hydrolysis on GABAAR-mediated Cl and HCO3 fluxes in response to the first and repeated application of the agonist. We found that depending on the presence of bicarbonate, opened and desensitized states of the wild or chimeric GABAARs had different sensitivities to γPAs. This study presents the evidence that recovery of neuronal Cl and HCO3 concentrations after desensitization is accompanied by a change in the intracellular ATP concentration via ATPase performance. The transition between the desensitization and resensitization states was linked to changes in both conformation and phosphorylation. In addition, the chimeric β3 isoform did not exhibit the desensitization of the GABAAR-mediated Cl influx but only the resensitization. These observations lend a new physiological significance to the β3 subunit in the manifestation of GABAAR resensitization.  相似文献

The conducting polymer poly(2-(1H-pyrrole-1-yl)ethyl methacrylate (PPEMA) was synthesized by conventional atom transfer radical polymerization for the first time from free as well as surface-bonded alkyl bromide initiator. When grafted from the surface of carbonyl iron (CI) a substantial conducting shell on the magnetic core was obtained. Synthesis of the monomer as well as its polymer was confirmed using proton spectrum nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR). Polymers with various molar masses and low dispersity showed the variability of this approach, providing a system with a tailorable structure and brush-like morphology. Successful grafting from the CI surface was elucidate by transmission electron microscopy and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy. Very importantly, thanks to the targeted nanometer-scale shell thickness of the PPEMA coating, the magnetization properties of the particles were negligibly affected, as confirmed using vibration sample magnetometry. Smart elastomers (SE) consisting of bare CI or CI grafted with PPEMA chains (CI-PPEMA) and silicone elastomer were prepared and dynamic mechanical properties as well as interference shielding ones were investigated. It was found that short polymer chains grafted to the CI particles exhibited the plasticizing effect, which might be interesting from the magnetorheological point of view, and more interestingly, in comparison to the neat CI-based sample, it provided enhanced electromagnetic shielding of nearly 30 dB in thickness of 500 μm. Thus, SE containing the newly synthesized CI-PPEMA hybrid particles also exhibited considerably enhanced damping factor and proper mechanical performance, which make the material highly promising from various practical application points of view.  相似文献
