Oxidative modification of lipids contained in lipoproteins may contribute to initiation of local inflammation in the vascular endothelium and ultimately to the atherosclerotic plaque formation. Therefore, in patients with high cardiovascular risk in primary as well as in secondary prevention, it is recommended that the serum low‐density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol be reduced. However, the management of patients with LDL level at goal is still a matter of debate. Various parameters have been proposed for predicting increased cardiovascular risk. It was found that among known indicators of lipid metabolism deregulation the ratio of total cholesterol/apoB100 associates with the severity of coronary arteriosclerosis in population of individuals with LDL levels < 100 mg/dL. There are several possible hypotheses for this phenomenon (impaired reduction of apoB100 expression by statins or increased triglyceride content of apoB100 containing lipoproteins compatible with oxidized LDL phenotype in subjects with high cardiovascular burden). In this paper, we discuss the increased susceptibility of plasma lipoproteins to oxidation. To verify this hypothesis, we undertook to determine, in the susceptible population described previously, whether there is a relation of total cholesterol (TC) ratio to apoB100 with known oxidative stress exponents such as protein and lipid oxidation products (LPP). TC/apoB100 was found to have a significant association with the level of LPPs in most examined subgroups (except subjects on statins with LDL > 100 mg/dL). Collaborative filtering collects similar patches, jointly filters them and scatters the output back to input patches; each pixel gets a contribution from each patch that overlaps with it, allowing signal reconstruction from highly corrupted data. Exploiting self‐similarity, however, requires finding matching image patches, which is an expensive operation. We propose a GPU‐friendly approximated‐nearest‐neighbour(ANN) algorithm that produces high‐quality results for any type of collaborative filter. We evaluate our ANN search against state‐of‐the‐art ANN algorithms in several application domains. Replacement of synthetically derived food additives and increase of sustainability are two major trends within the food industry, and usage of by-products may represent a potential solution. We characterised an extract obtained from red beet that could also be obtained from red beet peels, that are typical industrial by-products, and examined its interfacial and emulsion forming properties. Results showed that red beet extract contained considerable amounts of surface-active saponins. The smallest negatively charged droplets (~1.36 μm, −40 mV) were obtained at low emulsifier-to-oil ratio and were fairly stable over a wide range of environmental stresses such as a wide pH range and temperature (<50 °C) despite some oiling-off. Emulsions showed flocculation at low pH, as well as coalescence at high temperature (≥50 °C) and phase separation after a freeze–thaw cycle. Overall, our results indicate red beet extract may be employed as new naturally derived emulsifier for food and beverage products. 相似文献

Evidence suggests that microbiota-derived metabolites, including short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) and trimethylamine-oxide (TMAO), affect the course of diabetic multiorgan pathology. We hypothesized that diabetes activates the intestinal renin–angiotensin system (RAS), contributing to gut pathology. Twelve-week-old male rats were divided into three groups: controls, diabetic (streptozotocin-induced) and diabetic treated with enalapril. Histological examination and RT-qPCR were performed to evaluate morphology and RAS expression in the jejunum and the colon. SCFA and TMAO concentrations in stools, portal and systemic blood were evaluated. In comparison to the controls, the diabetic rats showed hyperplastic changes in jejunal and colonic mucosa, increased plasma SCFA, and slightly increased plasma TMAO. The size of the changes was smaller in enalapril-treated rats. Diabetic rats had a lower expression of Mas receptor (MasR) and angiotensinogen in the jejunum whereas, in the colon, the expression of MasR and renin was greater in diabetic rats. Enalapril-treated rats had a lower expression of MasR in the colon. The expression of AT1a, AT1b, and AT2 receptors was similar between groups. In conclusion, diabetes produces morphological changes in the intestines, increases plasma SCFA, and alters the expression of renin and MasR. These alterations were reduced in enalapril-treated rats. To control the photocatalytic activity, it is essential to consider several parameters affecting the structure of ordered multicomponent TiO2-based photocatalytic nanotubes. The lack of systematic knowledge about the relationship between structure, property, and preparation parameters may be provided by applying a machine learning (ML) methodology and predictive models based on the quantitative structure-property-condition relationship (QSPCR). In the present study, for the first time, the quantitative mapping of preparation parameters, morphology, and photocatalytic activity of 136 TiO2 NTs doped with metal and non-metal nanoparticles synthesized with the one-step anodization method has been investigated via linear and nonlinear ML methods. Moreover, the developed QSPCR model, for the first time, provides systematic knowledge supporting the design of effective TiO2-based nanotubes by proper structure manipulation. The proposed computer-aided methodology reduces cost and speeds up the process (optimize) of efficient photocatalysts’ design at the earliest possible stage (before synthesis) in line with the sustainability-by-design strategy. 相似文献
