Exploring Virtual Librarianship: Second Life Library 2.0

ABSTRACT

In April 2006, Alliance Library System and Online Programming for All Libraries partnered to start the Second Life Library 2.0 in the online world Second Life and in August 2006 purchased an island on the Teen grid of Teen Second Life. Second Life is a virtual world, a descendant of multiplayer online games. Educational institutions have recently been drawn into Second Life's robust economy and vibrant cultural life. The Second Life Library 2.0 works with librarians from around the world and with other educational partners such as TechSoup, WorldBridges, and the New Media Consortium. Second Life Library 2.0 provides “traditional” library services such as ready reference, book discussions, and search assistance, but, at heart, it explores what it means to be a virtual library in a virtual world.     

Composites of hydroxyapatite and bisphosphonate: properties and alveolar bone response

A composite was made by adsorption of the bisphosphonate [(3-dimethylamino-1-hydroxypropylidene)-1,1-bisphosphonate; dimethyl-APD] into an hydroxyapatite (HA) tube. Adsorbed dimethyl-APD did not change the bulk properties of the HA tube but the surface properties were altered. The amount of 0.1 mmol/L dimethyl-APD adsorbed into the HA tube was 0.78 ( ± 0.20) g after 4 weeks. The composite tube of HA and dimethyl-APD placed after extraction of teeth in the premolar regions of dogs were biocompatible, stable and bonded strongly and intimately to the alveolar bone. Although there was no bone resorption around the composite tubes, no conclusion can be drawn yet from this study as far as local inhibition of alveolar bone resorption is concerned.     

SecondSkin: An interactive method for appearance transfer

SecondSkin estimates an appearance model for an object visible in a video sequence, without the need for complex interaction or any calibration apparatus. This model can then be transferred to other objects, allowing a non‐expert user to insert a synthetic object into a real video sequence so that its appearance matches that of an existing object, and changes appropriately throughout the sequence. As the method does not require any prior knowledge about the scene, the lighting conditions, or the camera, it is applicable to video which was not captured with this purpose in mind. However, this lack of prior knowledge precludes the recovery of separate lighting and surface reflectance information. The SecondSkin appearance model therefore combines these factors. The appearance model does require a dominant light‐source direction, which we estimate via a novel process involving a small amount of user interaction. The resulting model estimate provides exactly the information required to transfer the appearance of the original object to new geometry composited into the same video sequence.

以酒精糟、白酒糟、碎玉米、啤酒糟等为原料,添加尿素、（NH4）2SO4及营养液F,采用“液体种子培养,多菌种混合固态发酵技术”生产奶牛生物（活菌）饲料。饲料粗蛋白平均含量36．55％、提高率1635％;酵母菌、有效细菌总数及活菌率分别为：7．85×10^8个g、7．11×10^9个,g和82．2％;β-淀粉酶1356mg／（g．h）、纤维素酶168um／（g．h）、中性蛋白酶1088ug／（g．min）、碱性蛋白酶372ug/（g·min）、糖化酶110u／（g．h）;VA80IU／（100g）、VB：2．35mg／（100g）、VD2945IU／（100g）、VC1．1mg／（100g）、烟酸10．7mg／（100g）。

以PCI9030芯片为例，介绍了在wind。ws2000操作系统环境下，使用开发工具Driver Works开发PCI设备驱动程序的基本方法。对其中的关键技术做了较详细的讨论。同时简要介绍了驱动程序的安装和调试.
