The aim of this study was to prepare magnetic beads that could be used for the removal of heavy‐metal ions from synthetic solutions. Magnetic poly(ethylene glycol dimethacrylate–1‐vinyl‐1,2,4‐triazole) [m‐poly(EGDMA–VTAZ)] beads were produced by suspension polymerization in the presence of a magnetite Fe3O4 nanopowder. The specific surface area of the m‐poly(EGDMA–VTAZ) beads was 74.8 m2/g with a diameter range of 150–200 μm, and the swelling ratio was 84%. The average Fe3O4 content of the resulting m‐poly(EGDMA–VTAZ) beads was 14.8%. The maximum binding capacities of the m‐poly(EGDMA–VTAZ) beads from aquous solution were 284.3 mg/g for Hg2+, 193.8 mg/g for Pb2+, 151.5 mg/g for Cu2+, 128.1 mg/g for Cd2+, and 99.4 mg/g for Zn2+. The affinity order on a mass basis was Hg2+ > Pb2+ > Cu2+ > Cd2+> Zn2+. The binding capacities from synthetic waste water were 178.1 mg/g for Hg2+, 132.4 mg/g for Pb2+, 83.5 mg/g for Cu2+, 54.1 mg/g for Cd2+, and 32.4 mg/g for Zn2+. The magnetic beads could be regenerated (up to ca. 97%) by a treatment with 0.1M HNO3. These features make m‐poly(EGDMA–VTAZ) beads potential supports for heavy‐metal removal under a magnetic field. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2009  相似文献

N‐methacryloyl‐(L )‐alanine (MALA) was synthesized by using methacryloyl chloride and alanine as a metal‐complexing ligand or comonomer. Spherical beads with an average diameter of 150–200 μm were obtained by suspension polymerization of MALA and 2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) conducted in an aqueous dispersion medium. Poly(HEMA–MALA) beads were characterized by SEM, swelling studies, surface area measurement, and elemental analysis. Poly(HEMA–MALA) beads have a specific surface area of 68.5 m2/g. Poly(HEMA–MALA) beads with a swelling ratio of 63%, and containing 247 μmol MALA/g were used in the removal of Hg2+ from aqueous solutions. Adsorption equilibrium was achieved in about 60 min. The adsorption of Hg2+ ions onto PHEMA beads was negligible (0.3 mg/g). The MALA incorporation into the polymer structure significantly increased the mercury adsorption capacity (168 mg/g). Adsorption capacity of MALA containing beads increased significantly with pH. The adsorption of Hg2+ ions increased with increasing pH and reached a plateau value at around pH 5.0. Competitive heavy metal adsorption from aqueous solutions containing Cd2+, Cu2+, Pb2+, and Hg2+ was also investigated. The adsorption capacities are 44.5 mg/g for Hg2+, 6.4 mg/g for Cd2+, 2.9 mg/g for Pb2+, and 2.0 mg/g for Cu2+ ions. These results may be considered as an indication of higher specificity of the poly(HEMA–MALA) beads for the Hg2+ comparing to other ions. Consecutive adsorption and elution operations showed the feasibility of repeated use for poly(HEMA–MALA) chelating beads. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 100: 1222–1228, 2006  相似文献

The aim of this study is to prepare poly(hydroxyethyl methacrylate-N-methacryloyl-(L)-histidine) [PHEMAH] magnetic nanoparticles for plasmid DNA (pDNA) purification from Escherichia coli (E. coli) cell lysate. Magnetic nanoparticles were produced by surfactant free emulsion polymerization. mPHEMAH nanoparticles were characterized by elemental analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), atomic force microscopy (AFM), vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM), electron spin resonance (ESR), thermogravimetric analyses (TGA) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Surface area, average particle size and size distribution were also performed. Specific surface area of the mPHEMAH nanoparticles was found to be 1180 m2/g. Elemental analysis of MAH for nitrogen was estimated as 0.18 mmol/g polymer. The amount of pDNA adsorbed onto the mPHEMAH nanoparticles first increased and then reached a saturation value at around 1.0 mg/mL of pDNA concentration. Compared with the mPHEMA nanoparticles (50 μg/g polymer), the pDNA adsorption capacity of the mPHEMAH nanoparticles (154 mg/g polymer) was improved significantly due to the MAH incorporation into the polymeric matrix. The maximum pDNA adsorption was achieved at 25 °C. The overall recovery of pDNA was calculated as 92%. The mPHEMAH nanoparticles could be used six times without decreasing the pDNA adsorption capacity significantly. The results indicate that the PHEMAH nanoparticles promise high selectivity for pDNA.  相似文献

Concanavalin A (Con A) immobilized magnetic poly(glycidyl methacrylate) (mPGMA) beads in monosize and spherical for (1.62 μm in diameter) were used for the purification of human immunoglobulin G (IgG) from human plasma. Con A was immobilized by covalent binding onto the mPGMA beads. The maximum IgG adsorption on the mPGMA-Con A beads was observed at pH 6.0. The nonspecific IgG adsorption onto the plain mPGMA beads was very low (0.22 mg/g). Scatchard analysis of the adsorption isotherm for IgG on mPGMA-Con A beads showed an affinity constant (Ka) of 1.39 × 105 M−1 and a theoretical maximum adsorption capacity of 109.1 mg/g. An apparent IgG adsorption capacity of 66.2 mg/g was observed under the experimental conditions. IgG adsorption capacity from human plasma was observed as 48.0 mg/g. The adsorption of human serum albumin from plasma was 2.0 mg/g. The total protein adsorption was determined to be 50.0 mg/g. IgG molecules could be repeatedly adsorbed and eluted with the mPGMA-Con A beads without noticeable loss in the IgG adsorption capacity. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2012  相似文献

The Pb2+-imprinted (PHEMAC-Pb2+) particles were prepared by bulk polymerization as a solid-phase extraction (SPE) adsorbent. N-methacryloyl-(l)-cysteine (MAC) was used as functional monomer to have a well-shaped molecular geometry between MAC monomer and Pb2+ ions that provide molecular recognition based on well fitted cavities for Pb2+ ions after removal of template ions. The PHEMAC-Pb2+ particles were characterized and the applicability of these particles was investigated for the solid-phase extraction of Pb2+ ions from aqueous solutions and environmental samples. The PHEMAC-Pb2+ particles with a size range of 50–200 µm have a rough surface and macropores in bulk structure. The adsorption capacity of the PHEMAC-Pb2+ particles is relatively low (2.01 mg/g). However, the high selectivity towards competitive ions (Cd2+, Ni2+ and Cu2+) promises the PHEMAC-Pb2+ particles an alternative SPE adsorbent in literature. The relative selectivity coefficients of PHEMAC-Pb2+ particles for Pb2+/Ni2+, Pb2+/Cd2+ and Pb2+/Cu2+ were almost 71, 117 and 192 times greater than that of non-imprinted (PHEMAC) particles, respectively. Moreover, the reusability of the PHEMAC-Pb2+ particles was tested for several times and no significant loss in adsorption capacity was observed. The accuracy of the proposed procedure was also verified by the determination of Pb2+ ions in the certified reference material, LGC 6137 Estuarine sediment.  相似文献

Polyurethanes are a class of polymers that have a wide range of applications in the medical field although their blood compatibility still needs improvement. In order to obtain medical purity, this study prepared membrane‐form polyurethanes from toluene 2,4‐diisocyanate (TDI) and poly(propylene ethylene glycol) without the addition of any ingredients such as solvents, catalysts, or chain extenders. The aim was to increase surface hydrophilicity and improve blood compatibility. Therefore, the prepared membranes were modified by treatment with oxygen or argon plasmas. Characterizations of the samples were achieved by contact‐angle and water‐uptake studies as well as from atomic force microscope (AFM) pictures. It was found that oxygen‐modified samples were more hydrophilic than argon‐modified samples. The AFM images showed that surface roughness increased with plasma treatment. The protein adsorption experiments carried out with single protein solutions demonstrated that the adsorption of bovine serum albumin and fibrinogen decreased drastically by increasing the applied power and exposure time of the glow discharge. A similar decrease in the adsorption of protein was also observed for human blood proteins. The alterations of the conformational structures of the adsorbed proteins were examined by fluorescence spectrophotometry. Similar spectra with the same maximum wavelength were observed for native and desorbed proteins. These results showed that no denaturation of the proteins occurred upon adsorption on the surfaces of the prepared membranes. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. A series of poly(N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone-co-N-isopropylacrylamide)s, poly(VP-co-NIPA) copolymers with different compositions were prepared by radical copolymerization of VP and NIPA in N,N′-dimethylformamide at 65°C using 2,2′-azobisisobutyronitrile as initiator. Cu(II)-copolymer macrocomplexes were prepared by complexation of the copolymers with copper sulfate in aqueous solution at 40°C. The structure and composition of the copolymers, and the formation of coordinated Cu(II)-complexes between amide VP units and Cu2+ ions, were studied by FTIR spectroscopy, DSC and TGA-DTG in addition to electrical conductivity. Studies on the relationship between composition and thermal behavior showed that the values of Tg and Td of the copolymers and their coordinated macrocomplexes increased with increasing VP content. The copolymers predominantly show amorphous structure while their Cu(II)-macrocomplexes show the presence of a crystalline phase. The conductive properties of the synthesized Cu(II)-poly(VP-co-NIPA) complexes are also discussed. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2008  相似文献

We investigated a new adsorbent system, Reactive Red 120 attached poly(2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate ethylene dimethacrylate) [poly(HEMA–EDMA)] beads, for the removal of Ni2+ ions from aqueous solutions. Poly(HEMA–EDMA) beads were prepared by the modified suspension copolymerization of 2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate and ethylene dimethacrylate. Reactive Red 120 molecules were covalently attached to the beads. The beads (150–250 μm), having a swelling ratio of 55% and carrying 25.5 μmol of Reactive Red 120/g of polymer, were used in the removal of Ni2+ ions. The adsorption rate and capacity of the Reactive Red 120 attached poly(HEMA–EDMA) beads for Ni2+ ions was investigated in aqueous media containing different amounts of Ni2+ ions (5–35 mg/L) and having different pH values (2.0–7.0). Very high adsorption rates were observed at the beginning, and adsorption equilibria were then gradually achieved in about 60 min. The maximum adsorption of Ni2+ ions onto the Reactive Red 120 attached poly(HEMA–EDMA) beads was 2.83 mg/g at pH 6.0. The nonspecific adsorption of Ni2+ ions onto poly(HEMA–EDMA) beads was negligible (0.1 mg/g). The desorption of Ni2+ ions was studied with 0.1M HNO3. High desorption ratios (>90%) were achieved. The intraparticle diffusion rate constants at various temperatures were calculated as k20°C = 0.565 mg/g min0.5, k30°C = 0.560 mg/g min0.5, and k40°C = 0.385 mg/g min0.5. Adsorption–desorption cycles showed the feasibility of repeated use of this novel adsorbent system. The equilibrium data fitted very well both Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption models. The pseudo‐first‐order kinetic model was used to describe the kinetic data. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 100:5056–5065, 2006  相似文献

We prepared poly(ethylene glycol dimethacrylate–1‐vinyl‐1,2,4‐triazole) [poly(EGDMA–VTAZ)] beads (average diameter = 150–200 μm) by copolymerizing ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) with 1‐vinyl‐1,2,4‐triazole (VTAZ). The copolymer composition was characterized by elemental analysis and found to contain five EGDMA monomer units for each VTAZ monomer unit. The poly(EGDMA–VTAZ) beads had a specific surface area of 65.8 m2/g. Poly(EGDMA–VTAZ) beads were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, elemental analysis, surface area measurements, swelling studies, and scanning electron microscopy. Poly(EGDMA–VTAZ) beads with a swelling ratio of 84% were used for the heavy‐metal removal studies. The adsorption capacities of the beads for Cd(II), Hg(II), and Pb(II) were investigated in aqueous media containing different amounts of these ions (5–750 mg/L) and at different pH values (3.0–7.0). The maximum adsorption capacities of the poly(EGDMA–VTAZ) beads were 85.7 mg/g (0.76 mmol/g) for Cd(II), 134.9 mg/g (0.65 mmol/g) for Pb(II), and 186.5 mg/g (0.93 mmol/g) for Hg(II). The affinity order toward triazole groups on a molar basis was observed as follows: Hg(II) > Cd(II) > Pb(II). pH significantly affected the adsorption capacity of the VTAZ‐incorporated beads. The equilibrium data were well fitted to the Redlich–Peterson isotherm. Consideration of the kinetic data suggested that chemisorption processes could have been the rate‐limiting step in the adsorption process. Regeneration of the chelating‐beads was easily performed with 0.1M HNO3. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 102: 4276–4283, 2006  相似文献

Microporous poly(2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate) (pHEMA) membrane was prepared by UV‐initiated photopolymerization. The spacer arm (i.e., hexamethylene diamine) was attached covalently and then invertase was immobilized by the condensation reaction of the amino groups of the spacer arm with carboxyl groups of the enzyme in the presence of carbodiimides. The values of the Michael's constant Km of invertase were significantly larger (ca. 2.5 times) upon immobilization, indicating decreased affinity by the enzyme for its substrate, whereas Vmax was smaller for the immobilized invertase. Immobilization improved the pH stability of the enzyme as well as its temperature stability. Thermal stability was found to increase with immobilization and at 70°C the half times for the activity decay were 12 min for the free enzyme and 41 min for the immobilized enzyme. The immobilized enzyme activity was found to be quite stable in repeated experiments. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 75: 1685–1692, 2000  相似文献
