We explore a novel transverse line electrode configuration for droplet transport through dielectrophoretic actuation with potential lab-on-chip applications. Using a lumped electromechanical model, we show a weak dependence of DEP actuation force on electrode spacing in this configuration. The configuration successfully triggers translational drop motion with minimal changes in contact angle at considerably low voltages. Two sessile, deionized water drops placed horizontally apart on a indium-tin–oxide-coated glass with additional coatings of polydimethylsiloxane, and a thin layer of Teflon is merged by applying an AC field (88 Vrms at 150 kHz) through a common horizontal wire electrode. A lateral motion of two drops is induced along the horizontal electrode, eventually leading to coalescence. The drop motion is unique compared to electrowetting in its near-constant dynamic contact angle, and irreversibility on withdrawal of electric field. The effect of frequency on the drop behavior is examined through a parametric study on single drops within the range of 2–200 kHz. It is interesting to observe a switch-over from DEP behavior at high frequency to EWOD behavior at low frequency around a critical frequency (Jones in Langmuir 18:4437–4443, 2002).  相似文献

An image compressor inside wireless capsule endoscope should have low power consumption, small silicon area, high compression rate and high reconstructed image quality. Simple and efficient image compression scheme, consisting of reversible color space transformation, quantization, subsampling, differential pulse code modulation (DPCM) and Golomb–Rice encoding, is presented in this paper. To optimize these methods and combine them optimally, the unique properties of human gastrointestinal tract image are exploited. Computationally simple and suitable color spaces for efficient compression of gastrointestinal tract images are proposed. Quantization and subsampling methods are optimally combined. A hardware-efficient, locally adaptive, Golomb–Rice entropy encoder is employed. The proposed image compression scheme gives an average compression rate of 90.35 % and peak signal-to-noise ratio of 40.66 dB. ASIC has been fabricated on UMC130nm CMOS process using Faraday high-speed standard cell library. The core of the chip occupies 0.018 mm\(^2\) and consumes 35 \(\upmu {\text {W}}\) power. The experiment was performed at 2 frames per second on a \(256\times 256\) color image. The power consumption is further reduced from 35 to 9.66 \(\upmu \)W by implementing the proposed image compression scheme using Faraday low-leakage standard cell library on UMC130nm process. As compared to the existing DPCM-based implementations, our realization achieves a significantly higher compression rate for similar area and power consumption. We achieve almost as high compression rate as can be achieved with existing DCT-based image compression methods, but with an order of reduced area and power consumption.  相似文献

A new mesoporous aluminophosphate (AlPO4) has been synthesized through hydrothermal transformation of a lamellar mesostructured aluminophosphate prepared in the presence of a neutral surfactant dodecylamine (DDA) under mild alkaline pH conditions and using water–ethanol mixture as the synthesis medium. Post-synthesis hydrothermal treatment was carried out at 448 K for 72 h in the presence of dilute aqueous phosphoric acid, which results this phase transformation. Lamellar and mesoporous phases of these samples were revealed from powder X-ray diffraction, SEM-EDS, transmission electron microscopic image analysis, 31P MAS NMR a FT IR spectroscopic studies and thermal analysis. N2 sorption studies revealed the existence of pores with dimension of small mesopores after H3PO4 treatment. Pillaring of the interlayers through PO4 units during post-synthesis hydrothermal treatment could be responsible for the transformation of lamellar to mesoporous phase.  相似文献

There was an accident to a single engine aircraft. From the eye and ear witness accounts, it was established that the accident occurred because of engine failure. After preliminary examination of the wreckage of the crashed engine, a few suspected components were identified for detailed laboratory investigation. The objective was to establish the primary failure in the engine. While majority of the engine components submitted for laboratory analysis showed secondary damages due to either crash impact forces or post-accident fire, the fracture pattern in one of the compressor disks was different from other components of the engine. Fractographic study revealed that the failure of the disk was by fatigue mechanism. Subsequent investigation showed that the fatigue fracture of the compressor disk was the first in the chain of events that led to the engine failure. This finding was further substantiated through fracture mechanics calculations.  相似文献

Mesoporous materials can play a pivotal role as a host material for delivery application to a specific part of a system. In this work we explore the selective adsorption and release of cationic organic dye molecules such as safranine T (ST) and malachite green (MG) on mesoporous borosilicate materials. The mesoporous silica SBA-15 and borosilicate materials (MBS) were prepared using non-ionic surfactant Pluronic P123 as template via evaporation induced self-assembly (EISA) method. After template removal the materials show high surface areas and in some cases ordered mesopores of dimensions ca. 6–7 nm. High surface area, mesoporosity and the presence of heteroatom (boron) help this mesoporous borosilicate material to adsorb high amount of cationic dye molecules at its surface from the respective aqueous solutions. Furthermore, the mesoporous borosilicate samples containing higher percentage adsorbed dyes show excellent release of ST or MG dye in simulated body fluid (SBF) solution at physiological pH = 7.4 and temperature 310 K. The adsorption and release efficiency of mesoporous borosilicate samples are compared with reference boron-free mesoporous pure silica material to understand the nature of adsorbate–adsorbent interaction at the surfaces.  相似文献

Composites comprising of nanoparticles of Ni0?5Zn0?5Fe2O4 (NZF) and BaTiO3 (BT), respectively were synthesized by a chemical method. The particles had diameters in the range of 15–31 nm. NZF was prepared by a coprecipitation technique. This was soaked in a sol containing BT. Compositions synthesized were xNZF-(1 – x) BT, where x = 0?7, 0?5 and 0?3, respectively. The composites showed ferromagnetic hysteresis loops due to NZF phase. The analysis of coercivity variation as a function of temperature gave blocking temperatures in the range of 306–384 K depending on the diameter of the ferrite nanoparticles. This implied that superparamagnetic interactions are above these temperatures. The nanocomposites also exhibited ferroelectric behaviour arising due to the presence of BT. The remanent polarization of the samples was small. This was adduced to the nanosize of BT. The specimens showed magneto-dielectric (MD) effect in the magnetic field range 0–0?7 Tesla. The MD parameter measured at the maximum magnetic field was around 2%. This was one order of magnitude higher than that reported so far in similar composite systems. This was explained on the basis of a two-phase inhomogeneous medium model with an interface between them, the phases possessing drastically different electrical conductivities.  相似文献

A poor-grade fireclay was mixed with three nucleating agents, namely Cr2O3, V2O5 and TiO2. The fireclay and oxide mixed fireclay were fired at 1300°C for 1 h, cooled down to room temperature and then heat-treated at 1150°C for 15h. These were also heat-treated at 1150°C for 15 h after cooling down to 1150°C from the peak temperature. The heat-treatment caused ceramization of the glassy phase in the fireclay samples, and the samples, mineralogical composition and microstructure were investigated. Ceramization brought about significant changes in the microstructure only.  相似文献

Low-grade fireclay refractories contain large amounts of glassy phase. The properties, e.g. mechanical strength, thermal-shock resistance, refractoriness-under-load, refractoriness and also porosity and bulk density of these refractories before and after ceramization of their glassy phase were investigated. The glassy phase was ceramized by incorporating Cr2O3, V2O5 and TiO2 into the refractories as nucleating agents and subsequent heat-treatment. Significant improvement in mechanical strength and thermal-shock resistance of the ceramized refractories was observed.  相似文献
