Pure hydrogen production is of great interest as it is an energy carrier which can be used in PEM fuel cells for power production. Methane Steam Reforming (MSR) is commonly used for hydrogen production although the produced hydrogen is not free of other components. Membrane Reactors (MR) enable a pure hydrogen product stream and allows the reaction to take place at significantly lower temperatures (lower than 550 °C) than in conventional reactors (greater than 800 °C) with comparable methane conversion. This is achieved by hydrogen removal through a permselective Pd–Ag based membrane that cause a favorable shift in chemical equilibrium towards hydrogen production. In the present study, a two-dimensional, nonlinear, and pseudo-homogeneous mathematical model of a catalytic fixed-bed membrane reactor for methane steam reforming over a nickel-based foam supported catalyst is presented. Simulated results referring to the distribution of species, methane conversion, temperature and hydrogen flowrate along the reactor for different radial positions are obtained and analyzed. The performance of structured catalyst and catalyst supported on foam configurations under the same operating conditions is also studied. Experimental results for the membrane facilitate the identification of suitable operating conditions. 相似文献

The dynamical behaviour of a fuel cell feeding a boost converter is studied in this paper. A nonlinear model of the combined system is derived including the effect of the switching action of the converter. Using Filippov's theory, it is possible to analytically study the bifurcation patterns of the system and to demonstrate that the system loses stability through a period doubling bifurcation. To overcome this instability, we inject a high frequency sinusoidal signal into the system that forces the system to remain stable while at the same time retaining its basic slow scale properties (like the steady state error). This controller is simple to implement and does not require any special hardware. The stability analysis and new controller design method presented in this paper allow for the re-design of the converter to stabilize circuit operation with a substantially reduced inductor size, reducing the size and cost of the converter while maintaining its average currents and voltages and other circuit steady-state behaviour characteristics. A molecular method for efficient and accurate detection and identification of two potential probiotic lactobacilli strains isolated from fermented olives, namely Lactobacillus pentosus B281 and Lb. plantarum B282, was developed in the present study. Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA (RAPD) analysis was performed, and strain specific primers were designed and applied in a multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay. The specificity of the assay was tested and successfully confirmed in 27 and 22 lactobacilli strains for Lb. pentosus B281 and Lb. plantarum B282, respectively. Moreover, the two strains were used as starter cultures in yogurt production. Cell enumeration followed by multiplex PCR analysis demonstrated that the two strains were present in yogurt samples at levels ≥6 log CFU/g even after 35 days of storage at 4 °C. Microbiological analysis showed that lactobacilli and streptococci were present within usual levels, whereas enterobacteriaceae and yeast/mold counts were not detected as expected. Although the pH values of the novel products were slightly lower than the control ones, the yogurt containing the probiotic cultures scored similar values compared to the control in a series of sensory tests. Overall, these results demonstrated the possible use of the two strains as starter adjuncts in the production of yogurt with potential probiotic properties. 相似文献

Today, papers impregnated with thermosetting resins like urea-formaldehyde and/or melamine-formaldehyde are broadly used as covers for wood-based panels like particleboards (PB) and medium density fibreboards (MDF), because they offer flexibility in surface decoration, mechanical endorsement and protection from emissions of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) of the panel. The resin is enhanced with various additives, like hardeners, de-foaming agents, surfactants, wetting agents etc. that are traditionally derived from petroleum. In this study, CHIMAR Hellas tested for the first time biomass-derived surfactants, produced by ARD company, in resin mixtures suitable for paper impregnation. From a chemical point of view, these natural surfactants are alkyl xylosides and particularly amyl and butyl xylosides and proved to have performance equivalent to the petrochemical surfactants conventionally used in this industrial field. Temperature abuse of tuna (Thunnus alalunga) was carried out in order to assess the histamine buildup in fish-processing facilities where fish can be exposed to high temperatures for short periods of time. Histamine production was studied in tuna loins under different storage and abuse conditions. Tuna was stored at 0-2°C, 3-4°C, and 6-7°C, and abused for 2 h daily at 20°C and 30°C for 7-12 days. Loins abused at 30°C for 2 h daily contained potentially toxic histamine concentrations (67-382 mg kg-1) when stored at a low refrigeration temperature (0-2°C), whereas when stored at 6-7°C, the loins contained highly toxic histamine concentrations (544.5-4156.6 mg kg-1). Lower histamine concentrations (23-48 mg kg-1 in loins stored at 0-2°C and 124.7-2435.8 mg kg-1 in loins stored at 6-7°C) were observed in temperature-abused loins that were initially frozen. An increase over time was observed in most microbial counts tested. Bacteria isolated from the temperature-abused loins showed a varied ability of histamine production, with Morganella morganii, Klebsiella oxytoca, Staphylococcus hominis, and Enterococcus hirae being the most active histamine-producing bacteria. 相似文献

Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF) and its rs6265 single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) play an important role in post-stroke recovery. We investigated the correlation between BDNF rs6265 SNP and recovery outcome, measured by the modified Barthel index, in 49 patients with stroke hospitalized in our rehabilitation center at baseline (T0) and after 30 sessions of rehabilitation treatment (T1); moreover, we analyzed the methylation level of the CpG site created or abolished into BDNF rs6265 SNP. In total, 11 patients (22.4%) were heterozygous GA, and 32 (65.3%) and 6 (12.2%) patients were homozygous GG and AA, respectively. The univariate analysis showed a significant relationship between the BDNF rs6265 SNP and the modified Barthel index cut-off (χ2(1, N = 48) = 3.86, p = 0.049), considering patients divided for carrying (A+) or not carrying (A−) the A allele. A higher percentage of A− patients obtained a favorable outcome, as showed by the logistic regression model corrected by age and time since the stroke onset, compared with the A+ patients (OR: 5.59). At baseline (T0), the percentage of BDNF methylation was significantly different between GG (44.6 ± 1.1%), GA (39.5 ± 2.8%) and AA (28.5 ± 1.7%) alleles (p < 0.001). After rehabilitation (T1), only patients A− showed a significant increase in methylation percentages (mean change = 1.3, CI: 0.4–2.2, p = 0.007). This preliminary study deserves more investigation to confirm if BDNF rs6265 SNP and its methylation could be used as a biological marker of recovery in patients with stroke undergoing rehabilitation treatment. 相似文献

A full-term, small-for-gestational-age, neonate was born 4 days after rupture of the membranes. On the 5th day of life, she developed sepsis due to Klebsiella pneumoniae. On the 18th day of life, the right hip was noted swollen with limited range of motion, but it was painless on passive movements. Ultrasonography revealed abscess of the right ilio-psoas muscle with normal appearance of the right hip joint. Surgical incision and drainage and antibiotic administration resulted in a gradual full recovery. Ultrasonography can confirm the diagnosis of this exceptional clinical entity in neonates, which is difficult to differentiate from septic arthritis of the hip. 相似文献

This work reports on the photoinduced wettability changes of high quality nanostructured ZnO films grown on Si by pulsed laser deposition (PLD) under different growth parameters. The wetting behavior of the resulting films can be reversibly switched from hydrophobic to hydrophilic, through alternation of UV illumination and dark storage. The kinetics of this wetting transition are studied by monitoring the time evolution of the corresponding contact angles. Finally, the influence of the film properties over the observed wetting response is discussed. 相似文献
