To provide high‐speed multimedia services using the digital video broadcasting‐return channel satellite (DVB‐RCS) standard, it is imperative to efficiently assign timeslots according to user demands and dynamically take into account the variations of the propagation conditions. In satellite networks operating above 10 GHz, rain fading constitutes the dominant factor deteriorating the quality of service. In this paper, a novel two‐phase resource allocation scheme for a DVB‐RCS compliant satellite network is proposed. The scheme operates in two phases, the resource calculation and the resource assignment. In the resource calculation phase, based on a dynamic channel model, an efficient algorithm is presented to determine the superframe design that maximizes system throughput. In the resource assignment phase, a novel Hybrid Bin‐packing algorithm is introduced maximizing the utilization of the multi‐frequency time division multiple access frame. The proposed algorithm has been compared with existing schemes exhibiting significantly better results with regard to overall system throughput. Copyright © 2008 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

An integrated system for hydrogen production via autothermal steam reforming of methanol and consequent power generation in a polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) fuel cell has been developed and operated at C.P.E.R.I. The pilot plant comprises an autothermal reforming reactor to produce hydrogen, a preferential oxidation reactor (PROX) to reduce CO concentration below 50 ppm and a PEM fuel cell for power generation.The present paper deals with the study of this system, both from an experimental and a theoretical point of view. The experimental work aims to: (a) examine the effect of the reforming temperature on methanol conversion and on the effluent stream concentration, (b) investigate the effect of reaction temperature and O2/CO ratio on the performance of the PROX reactor, and (c) evaluate the operation of a 10-cell PEM fuel cell, using pure hydrogen and air at three temperature levels. The experimental data are subsequently utilized for the validation of one-dimensional pseudo-homogeneous models that have been developed for the two reactors and also for the identification of the voltage–current characteristic curve of the PEM fuel cell. The validated models are then used to investigate the behavior and explore the interactions, both static and dynamic, among the various process subsystems.  相似文献

In this paper, we present a plane sweep algorithm for constructing the Voronoi diagram of a set of non-crossing line segments in 2D space using a distance metric induced by a regular k-gon and study the robustness of the algorithm. Following the algorithmic degree model [G. Liotta, F.P. Preparata, R. Tamassia, Robust proximity queries: an illustration of degree-driven algorithm design, SIAM J. Comput. 28 (3) (1998) 864-889], we show that the Voronoi diagram of a set of arbitrarily oriented segments can be constructed with degree 14 for certain k-gon metrics (e.g., k=6,8,12). For rectilinear segments or segments with slope +1 or −1, the degree reduces to 2. The algorithm is easy to implement and finds applications in VLSI layout.  相似文献

The application of virtual reality in e-commerce has enormous potential for transforming online shopping into a real-world equivalent. However, the growing research interest focuses on virtual reality technology adoption for the development of e-commerce environments without addressing social and behavioral facets of online shopping such as trust. At the same time, trust is a critical success factor for e-commerce and remains an open issue as to how it can be accomplished within an online store. This paper shows that the use of virtual reality for online shopping environments offers an advanced customer experience compared to conventional web stores and enables the formation of customer trust. The paper presents a prototype virtual shopping mall environment, designed on principles derived by an empirically tested model for building trust in e-commerce. The environment is evaluated with an empirical study providing evidence and explaining that a virtual reality shopping environment would be preferred by customers over a conventional web store and would facilitate the assessment of the e-vendor’s trustworthiness.  相似文献

Mixtures of a sandy soil and wheat straw were doped with the organochlorine insecticide lindane in glass tubes and were inoculated with the polypore fungus, Ganoderma australe. An evaluation of bioremediation process effectiveness was searched and five parameters identified for the solid-state system. Fungi growth is a function of temperature and requires moisture for a proper colonization. These microorganisms need inorganic nutrients such nitrogen and phosphorus to support cell growth and it is also appropriate to know the range of concentration and toxicity of the used insecticide. Thus, an orthogonal central composite design (CCD) of experiments was used to construct second order response surfaces. Five design factors, namely temperature, moisture, straw, lindane content and nitrogen content and seven optimization parameters (responses), namely lag time, propagation velocity, biomass growth rate, biodegradation rate, biodegradation/biomass, biomass/propagation and biomass content were analyzed. The optima of the responses of the adequate models were found to be the following: propagation velocity 4.25mm/day, biomass growth rate 408mg/day, biodegradation/biomass 56.9microg/g, biomass/propagation 250mg/mm and fungal biomass content in solid mixture 260mg/cm(3). The most important response for bioremediation purposes is biodegradation/biomass which is maximized at the factors levels: temperature 17.3 degrees C, moisture 58%, straw content 45%, lindane content 13ppm and nitrogen content 8.2ppm.  相似文献

SrCu2O2 (SCO) thin films have been fabricated by pulsed laser deposition at oxygen partial pressures between 5 × 10− 5-5 × 10− 2 mbar and substrate temperatures from 300 °C to 500 °C. All films were single-phase SrCu2O2, p-type materials. Films deposited at a substrate temperature of 300 °C and oxygen pressure 5 × 10− 4 mbar exhibited the highest transparency (∼ 80%), having conductivity 10− 3 S/cm and carrier concentration around 1013 cm− 3. Films deposited at oxygen partial pressure higher than 10− 3 mbar exhibited higher conductivity and carrier concentration but lower transmittance. Depositions at substrate temperatures higher than 300 °C gave films of high crystallinity and transmittance even for films as thick as 800 nm. The energy gap of SrCu2O2 thin films was found to be around 3.3 eV.  相似文献

We have studied the changes in the physiology and nutritional quality of Lycopersicon esculentum exposed to olive mill wastewater (OMW) with regard to cultivation in sand and soil. Tomato plant performance decreased with increasing concentration of OMW to both substrates. Root was more sensitive to OMW than the upper parts of the plants, grown either in sand or in soil for 10 days and 3 months, respectively, probably due to the direct OMW toxicity on roots as compared to other parts. Significant restriction on uptake and translocation of nutrients (K, Na, Fe, Ca and Mg) under OMW application was found. The decrease in the photochemical efficiency of PSII photochemistry in the light adapted state and the big decrease in photochemical quenching, indicate that OMW resulted in diminished reoxidation of Q(A)(-) and started to inactivate the reaction centers of PSII. The OMW supply on soil and sand, resulted in leaf water stress and lesser water use efficiency. Plants treated with high OMW concentration, produced fewer but bigger tomatoes as compared to plants treated with lower OMW concentration. Generally, fruit yield and nutritional value was inhibited under OMW application.  相似文献

Small portions of fresh chicken breasts weighting 20 g each and fresh whole chickens, weighting on average 1310 g each, were inoculated with Escherichia coli O157:H7 (10(5)-10(6) cfu/g) and cooked, using two different domestic microwave ovens at full power. The chicken portions were heated for 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, and 35 s and the whole chickens for 22 min. Following exposures, viable counts and temperature measurements were performed. Although the chicken breast portions looked well-cooked after 30 s of MW heating at a mean end-point surface temperature of 69.8 degrees C, a mean concentration of 83 cfu/g E. coli O157:H7 cells was recovered. Elimination of E. coli O157:H7 cells occurred only after 35 s of MW exposure at 73.7 degrees C. When whole chickens were thoroughly cooked by MW heating, the final subsurface temperatures, measured in the thighs and wings, ranged from 60.2 degrees C to 92 degrees C and viable cells of E. coli O157:H7 were recovered from all samples of whole chicken. The results indicate that short time exposures of chicken portions to microwave heating do not eliminate E. coli O157:H7.  相似文献
