This article investigates radiation characteristics of a new type of fractal shaped antenna array based on Haferman carpet geometry. An iterative feed matrix eases the complexity of array factor calculation that makes the array factor suitable for the application of any evolutionary optimization techniques. It is seen that Haferman carpet array produces peak side lobe level (PSLL) better than Sierpinski carpet that produces ?10 dB PSLL at every stage of growth. Optimization techniques have been applied for array element reduction and PSLL minimization at different stages of growth. Here, PSLL is minimized by turning off array elements and also by varying inter element spacing between the array elements. The optimized version of Haferman carpet array produces better characteristics (49.38% thinning with ?20.5 dB PSLL for stage‐2, 46.3% thinning with ?22 dB PSLL for stage‐3 and 42.3% thinning with ?21dB PSLL for stage‐4) than its original counterpart in terms of reduced element count and PSLL. Numerical results for obtaining optimized array performance exploit both DE as well as PSO. A comparative study on the performance is also presented. As a whole, Haferman carpet is seen to be more effective approach than Sierpinski carpet in fractal antenna paradigm. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This paper puts forward a newer approach for structural shape optimization by combining a meshless method (MM), i.e. element-free Galerkin (EFG) method, with swarm intelligence (SI)-based stochastic ‘zero-order’ search technique, i.e. artificial bee colony (ABC), for 2D linear elastic problems. The proposed combination is extremely beneficial in structural shape optimization because MM, when used for structural analysis in shape optimization, eliminates inherent issues of well-known grid-based numerical techniques (i.e. FEM) such as mesh distortion and subsequent remeshing while handling large shape changes, poor accuracy due to discontinuous secondary field variables across element boundaries needing costly post-processing techniques and grid optimization to minimize computational errors. Population-based stochastic optimization technique such as ABC eliminates computational burden, complexity and errors associated with design sensitivity analysis. For design boundary representation, Akima spline interpolation has been used in the present work owing to its enhanced stability and smoothness over cubic spline. The effectiveness, validity and performance of the proposed technique are established through numerical examples of cantilever beam and fillet geometry in 2D linear elasticity for shape optimization with behavior constraints on displacement and von Mises stress. For both these problems, influence of a number of design variables in shape optimization has also been investigated.  相似文献

A new formulation of an eighteen-degrees-of-freedom higher-order triangular plate bending element using triangular area co-ordinates is presented. The displacement function w is taken as the complete fifth-order polynomial in area co-ordinates. The normal slope along an edge of the triangle is constrained to vary cubically. The twenty-one constants are expressed explicity in terms of eighteen degrees of freedom. The element stiffness matrix is expressed as a product of component matrices for which explicit expressions are developed and presented. No numerical inversion or integration is necessary. The formulation is expected to be useful specially for microcomputers.  相似文献

Machining of cooling holes on thermal barrier coated superalloy components using a nanosecond (ns) laser generates considerable collateral damage such as recast layer, spatter and delamination of the ceramic coating. However, recent studies have suggested that these damages can be virtually eliminated by machining with femtosecond (fs) lasers. A detailed study on the microstructural characteristics of fs laser machined holes with diameters of 300 μm and 600 μm, generated on thermal barrier coated superalloy CMSX4 under various processing conditions has been conducted. Features examined include the shape, size and the surface finish of the hole wall. Femtosecond laser machined holes with a surface roughness of less than 2 μm and no major collateral damage could be generated in coated samples up to a thickness of 1.5 mm. The machining was found to cause minor ablative material removal from the top ceramic layer within 100 μm of the outer edge of the hole. The presence of machined holes did not affect the thermal cycling life at 1100 °C of the coated samples.  相似文献

A one-dimensional non-isothermal model for oxygen permeable membrane reactor has been developed to simulate the partial oxidation of methane to produce hydrogen. The performance of two fixed bed reactors (FBRs) viz. one with pure O2 in feed (FBR1), other with air in feed (FBR2), and a membrane reactor (MR) having air in non-reaction side have been studied at various feed conditions and inlet temperatures in order to investigate the effect of these parameters on conversion of methane and yield of hydrogen. The fixed bed reactor with pure O2 in feed has been found to provide better performance as compared to fixed bed reactor with air and membrane reactor.  相似文献

A steady state, three‐dimensional, turbulent flow model has been developed in‐house for analysis of melt flow and residence time distribution phenomena in steelmaking tundish system. The governing equations of flow, turbulence and tracer dispersion were derived in terms of the Cartesian co‐ordinate systems and solved numerically with their associated boundary conditions adapting a control volume based finite difference procedure. In the numerical solution scheme, the pressure‐velocity coupling was treated via the popular Simple (semi implicit method for pressure linked equations) algorithm. Prior to carrying out elaborate numerical predictions for tundish geometry, the model was applied to several standard test problems and evaluated against corresponding bench mark results. Thus, several typical test problems such as, flows in a cubic cavity, flows in ducts of rectangular cross‐section, flow over flat plate and so on were simulated numerically to assess the adequacy and appropriateness of the computational procedure developed. Results thus obtained together with the bench mark solutions indicated that the mathematical model is internally consistent and sufficiently robust. Accordingly, the turbulent flow model was applied to simulate flow and Residence Time Distributions (RTD) in four different tundish designs . These included, a single strand and a two strand slab casting tundish systems, a six strand rectangular shaped tundish and a six strand delta shaped billet casting tundish. Various RTD parameters (e.g., minimum break through time, tmin, time at which peak concentration occurs, tpeak and average residence time, tav) were computed numerically in the four tundish systems and these were subsequently compared with corresponding experimental measurements derived from equivalent water model tundish systems. Except for the single strand tundish system, large differences between measurements and prediction (particularly on tmin and tpeak) were noted for the other three tundish geometries. Furthermore, the extent of such discrepancy was found to be relatively more pronounced for the multi‐strand tundish system. The possible reasons for such discrepancy is discussed in the text and it was shown computationally that relatively better agreement between theory and measurement can be achieved if, instead of the high Reynolds number k‐ε turbulence model, a low Reynolds number turbulence model is applied in the computational procedure.  相似文献
