Conventional static mixers typically require high length to diameter ratios to be effective. This paper considers static mixers design to increase first appearance times in short, fat reactors. Three types are considered: conical baffles and annular baffles for tubular reactors and axial baffles for reactors with a rectangular cross-section. Relatively simple designs allow production increases (or reactor volume decreases) on the order of 20–50%.  相似文献

The nanofluid flow between two plates is a common topic of research. However, studies dealing with the flow between two vertical plates moving in different directions have not been largely accounted for. The main aim of this study is to analytically and statistically investigate the MHD flow of water-based nanofluid between two vertical porous plates moving in opposite directions using perturbation technique and multiple linear regression, respectively. The consequence of various parameters on concentration, temperature, and velocity are examined via graphs using MATLAB software. It is observed that the main flow velocity profile is greater when the magnetic field is applied on the upward moving plate as compared to the main flow velocity when the magnetic field is applied on the downward-moving plate. The physical quantities are scrutinized using statistical tools like probable error and multiple linear regression and an excellent agreement is noted. It is noted that the Nusselt number is highly positively correlated with the injection parameter and highly negatively correlated with nanoparticle volume fraction. Furthermore, the simultaneous effects of parameters on drag coefficients are studied with the aid of three-dimensional surface plots.  相似文献

This article analyzes the effect of external heat transfer on the thermal performance of counterflow microchannel heat exchangers. Equations for predicting the axial temperature and the effectiveness of both fluids as well as the heat transferred between the fluids, while operating under external heating or cooling conditions, are provided in this article. External heating may decrease and increase the effectiveness of the hot and cold fluids, respectively. External cooling may improve and degrade the effectiveness of the hot and cold fluids, respectively. For unbalanced flows, the thermal performance of the microchannel heat exchanger subjected to external heat transfer depends on the fluid with the lowest heat capacity. At a particular number of transfer units (NTU), the effectiveness of both the fluids increased with decrease in heat capacity ratio when the hot fluid had the lowest heat capacity. When the cold fluid had the lowest heat capacity, the effectiveness of both fluids increased with decrease in heat capacity ratio at low values of NTU but at high values of NTU the effectiveness increased with increase in heat capacity ratio. A term called the “performance factor” has been introduced in this article to assess the relative change in effectiveness due to external heat transfer.  相似文献

Decorative coatings require not only an attractive appearance for market applications, but also an ability to protect the surface underneath. Because of this, corrosion, wear and their combined effects (termed tribocorrosion) are particularly important for lifetime prediction. In this paper, the tribocorrosion behaviour of a range of single layered titanium oxycarbide, TiCxOy, coatings, produced by DC reactive magnetron sputtering, has been studied and reported as a function of electrode potential and applied load. The study was conducted in a reciprocating sliding tribo-system (Plint TE 67/E) in a bio-fluid (an artificial perspiration solution) at room temperature. During the wear tests, both the open-circuit potential and the corrosion current were monitored. The results showed that electrode potential and load have a significant influence on the total material loss. The variations in Rp (polarization resistance) and Cf (capacitance) before and after sliding, obtained by Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) were evaluated in order to provide an understanding of the resistance of the film in such conditions. Tribocorrosion maps were generated, based on the results, indicating the change in mechanisms of the tribological and corrosion parameters for such coatings, as a function of load and applied potential.  相似文献

Important physical insights regarding the design and performance of independent-gate FinFETs, e.g., the MIGFET , are gained from measured data and predictions from our process/physics-based double-gate (DG) MOSFET model (UFDG) in Spice3. Inversion charge-centroid shifting, modulated by gate biases as well as by quantum-confinement and short-channel effects, underlies the sensitivity of the MIGFET (front-gate) threshold voltage to the back-gate bias. MIGFET design and operation-mode options are examined for optimizing circuit applications. Further, novel design of a single-device RF mixer and a double-balanced counterpart using MIGFETs is studied with UFDG/Spice3. Reasonably good MIGFET mixers, with regard to conversion gain and linearity with small-size/low-voltage/low-power requirements, can be achieved with optimal biases on the two gates and good design of the MIGFET structure.  相似文献

Understanding polymer degradation phenomena is of critical importance for material reliability. A novel dual stage chemiluminescence detection system has been developed and applied to probe for material interaction effects during polymer degradation. Evidence is presented for the first time that in an oxidizing environment a degrading polymer A (in this case polypropylene, PP) is capable of infecting a different polymer B (in this case polybutadiene, HTPB) over a relatively large distance. In the presence of the degrading material A, the thermal degradation of polymer B is observed over a significantly shorter time period. Infectious intermediate volatiles from material A are able to initiate and shorten the degradation processes in material B. This observation documents infectious behavior that will have significant consequences for materials interactions, understanding material degradation processes and long-term aging effects in combined material exposures.  相似文献

An 8-year-old girl presented with marked shortening of the right forearm due to destruction of both the radius and ulna secondary to neonatal osteomyelitis. A one-bone forearm operation was performed to achieve a stable forearm. Two years later, the one-bone forearm was lengthened for 6 months by callus distraction (callotasis) achieving 12 cm of extra length. The patient was last followed up at the age of 16. The supercritical fluid extraction of manganese and iron from solid matrix (wood pulp) is demonstrated experimentally. Supercritical carbon diodixe is used together with lithium bis(trifluoroethyl) dithiocarbonate (FDDC) as the ion-pairing reagent. The metal content of the pulp samples was determined by inductively couple plasma atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP-AES). Optimum conditions were determined to be 30 min each of static and dynamic extraction with 200 atm pressure at 40 °C. Thermomechanical pulp (TMP) extracted under these parameters exhibits an 80% decrease in manganese content, and 91% after a second, sequential extraction. The simultaneous removal of iron was found to be only 6% and supports evidence that it is much more strongly bound to the TMP matrix than manganese.  相似文献
