Abstract

Small tight trapping and guiding potentials can be created for neutral atoms moving microns above surfaces patterned with nanofabricated charged and current-carrying structures. Surfaces holding such structures form atom chips which, for coherent matter wave optics, may form the basis for a variety of novel applications and research tools, similar to integrated circuits in electronics. In this paper we describe the basic principles of atom chip experiments.  相似文献

Styrene‐b‐(ethylene‐co‐butylene)‐b‐styrene (SEBS) and styrene‐b‐(ethylene‐co‐propylene) (SEP, SEPSEP) block copolymers with different styrene contents and different numbers of blocks in the copolymer chain were functionalized by melt radical grafting with glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) and employed as compatibilizers for PET‐based blends. Binary blends of PET with both functionalized (SEBS‐g‐GMA, SEP‐g‐GMA, SEPSEP‐g‐GMA) and neat (SEBS, SEP, SEPSEP) copolymers (75 : 25 w/w) and ternary blends of PET and PP (75 : 25 w/w) with various amounts (2.5–10 phr) of both modified and unmodified copolymers were prepared in an internal mixer, and their properties were evaluated by SEM, DSC, melt viscosimetry, and tensile and impact tests. The roles of the chemical structure, grafting degree, and concentration of the various copolymers on blend compatibilization was investigated. The blends with the grafted copolymers showed a neat improvement of phase dispersion and interfacial adhesion compared to the blends with nonfunctionalized copolymers. The addition of grafted copolymers resulted in a marked increase in melt viscosity, which was accounted for by the occurrence of chemical reactions between the epoxide groups of GMA and the carboxyl/hydroxyl end groups of PET during melt mixing. Blends with SEPSEP‐g‐GMA and SEBS‐g‐GMA, at concentrations of 5–10 phr, showed a higher compatibilizing effect with enhanced elongation at break and impact resistance. The aim of the paper is to examine nonfriction energy dissipation in transient cavitating flows and to verify whether they can be attributed to thermic exchange between gas bubbles and the surrounding liquid or to gas release and solution process. A two-dimensional (2D) numerical model for liquid flow with a small amount of free gas is proposed. The results of the numerical runs are compared with experimental data of pressure head oscillations in transient cavitating flow. Both thermic exchange and gas release can explain some of the dissipation if a relaxation process is assumed. However, the 2D model, including the thermodynamics of the gaseous phase, does not seem to fully explain the observed dissipation. The 2D model with gas release allows for a good simulation of the experimental data after a suitable calibration of the model parameters.  相似文献

The aim of this article is to introduce a hybrid algorithm for the multi-item multi-period capacitated lot-sizing problem with setups. In this problem, demands over a finite planning horizon must be met, where several items compete for space with limited resources in each period, and a portion of these resources is used by setups. The proposed scheme considers a Lagrangean relaxation of the problem and applies a cross entropy-based metaheuristic to the uncapacitated version of the original problem. A thorough experimental plan has been designed and implemented to test the effectiveness and the robustness of the algorithm: first, drawing inspiration from the response surface methodology, we calibrate the algorithm by identifying the optimal parameters value for any given instance size. Next, we carry out experiments on large scale instances, collecting information about solution quality and computational time, and comparing these results with those offered by a global optimizer.  相似文献

Assistive technology is an emerging area, where robotic devices can help individuals with motor disabilities to achieve independence in daily activities. This paper deals with a system that provides remote control of Sony AIBO, a commercial mobile robot, within the assistive project ASPICE. The robot can be controlled by various input devices, including a Brain-Computer Interface. AIBO has been chosen for its friendly-looking aspect, in order to ease interaction with the patients. The development of the project is described by focusing on the design of the robot navigation system. Single step, semi-autonomous and autonomous navigation modes have been realized to provide different levels of control. Automatic collision avoidance is integrated in all cases. Other features of the system, such as the video feedback from the robotic platform to the user, and the use of AIBO as communication aid, are briefly described. The performance of the navigation system is shown by simulations as well as experiments. The system has been clinically validated, in order to obtain a definitive assessment through patient feedback.

In food science there is a growing demand of methods for the absolute quantification of proteins, such as allergens or bioactive proteins, and shotgun proteomics based on mass spectrometry is a promising analytical tool in this area. This paper describes an innovative label-free method for the absolute quantification of γ-conglutin, one of the most relevant lupin seed proteins, which is hypoglycaemic and a major allergen. The main features of the method are: (a) the chromatographic separation was performed on an HPLC-chip system coupled with an ion trap mass spectrometer; (b) five proteotypic peptides of γ-conglutin were selected and analysed with a multiple reaction monitoring (MRM) method; (c) absolute quantification was obtained by the standard addition method after purification of a reference sample of γ-conglutin from lupin seed; (d) the matrix effect was overcome by spiking with an exogenous protein, i.e. BSA, as internal standard.  相似文献

Pomegranate is getting an increasing attention for its health-promoting effects. Collection and characterization of plants of local sources has been performed, and five accessions have been propagated and cultivated in a collection field for extra situ investigations. Accessions differ for pomological traits and chemical composition. Three of them, MG1, MG2, and MG3, belong to typology with low-medium acidity and high sugar content, while the other two, Tordimonte A and B, belong to typology with high acidity. In the juice and in the peels’ extract of Tordimonte A accession a high level of punicalin has been found through chromatographic determinations, while the presence of punicalagin was found in the juice of accession MG1. The accessions MG1, MG2, and MG3 seem particularly suitable for direct commercialization of fruits due to the fruit traits and quality (sweet varieties), while Tordimonte A and B could be valuable for juice processing (sour varieties).  相似文献

Recent theoretical investigations have shown important radiometric disadvantages of interferential multiplexing in Fourier transform spectrometry that apparently can be applied even to coded aperture spectrometers. We have reexamined the methods of noninterferential multiplexing in order to assess their signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) performance, relying on a theoretical modeling of the multiplexed signals. We are able to show that quite similar SNR and radiometric disadvantages affect multiplex dispersive spectrometry. The effect of noise on spectral estimations is discussed.  相似文献
