In this paper, we consider quality improvement efforts coordination in a two-stage decentralised supply chain with a partial cost allocation contract. The supply chain consists of one supplier and one manufacturer, both of which produce defective products. Two kinds of failure cost occur within the supply chain: internal and external. The supplier and the manufacturer determine their individual quality levels to maximise their own profits. We propose a partial cost allocation contract, under which the external failure cost is allocated between the manufacturer and the supplier at different rates based on information derived from failure root cause analysis. If the quality levels of the supplier and the manufacturer are observable, we show that the partial cost allocation contract coordinates the supply chain, provided that the failure root cause analysis does not erroneously identify the manufacturer’s fault as the supplier’s, and the supplier does not take responsibility for the manufacture’s fault. In the single moral hazard model, where only the quality level of the supplier is unobservable, the optimal share rates require the supplier to take some responsibility for the manufacture’s fault. However, in the double moral hazard model, where quality levels of the supplier and the manufacturer are unobservable to each other, the optimal share rates require the supplier not to take responsibility for the manufacturer’s fault. It is noted that the root cause analysis conducted by the manufacturer may have its disadvantage in attributing the fault to the supplier when both sides are at fault. We also propose a contract based on the dual root cause analysis to reduce the supplier’s penalty cost. Numerical results illustrate that the partial cost allocation contract satisfies the fairness criterion compared with the traditional cost allocation contract.  相似文献

The use of small diameter whole-culm (bars) and/or split bamboo (a.k.a. splints or round strips) has often been proposed as an alternative to relatively expensive reinforcing steel in reinforced concrete. The motivation for such replacement is typically cost—bamboo is readily available in many tropical and sub-tropical locations, whereas steel reinforcement is relatively more expensive—and more recently, the drive to find more sustainable alternatives in the construction industry. This review addresses such ‘bamboo-reinforced concrete’ and assesses its structural and environmental performance as an alternative to steel reinforced concrete. A prototype three bay portal frame, that would not be uncommon in regions of the world where bamboo-reinforced concrete may be considered, is used to illustrate bamboo reinforced concrete design and as a basis for a life cycle assessment of the same. The authors conclude that, although bamboo is a material with extraordinary mechanical properties, its use in bamboo-reinforced concrete is an ill-considered concept, having significant durability, strength and stiffness issues, and does not meet the environmentally friendly credentials often attributed to it.  相似文献

In this paper we show how to estimate facial surface reflectance properties (a slice of the BRDF and the albedo) in conjunction with the facial shape from a single image. The key idea underpinning our approach is to iteratively interleave the two processes of estimating reflectance properties based on the current shape estimate and updating the shape estimate based on the current estimate of the reflectance function. For frontally illuminated faces, the reflectance properties can be described by a function of one variable which we estimate by fitting a curve to the scattered and noisy reflectance samples provided by the input image and estimated shape. For non-frontal illumination, we fit a smooth surface to the scattered 2D reflectance samples. We make use of a novel statistical face shape constraint which we term ‘model-based integrability’ which we use to regularise the shape estimation. We show that the method is capable of recovering accurate shape and reflectance information from single grayscale or colour images using both synthetic and real world imagery. We use the estimated reflectance measurements to render synthetic images of the face in varying poses. To synthesise images under novel illumination, we show how to fit a parametric model of reflectance to the estimated reflectance function.  相似文献

Electro-hydraulic servo-systems are widely employed in industrial applications such as robotic manipulators, active suspensions, precision machine tools and aerospace systems. They provide many advantages over electric motors, including high force to weight ratio, fast response time and compact size. However, precise control of electro-hydraulic systems, due to their inherent nonlinear characteristics, cannot be easily obtained with conventional linear controllers. Most flow control valves can also exhibit some hard nonlinearities such as dead-zone due to valve spool overlap. This work describes the development of an adaptive fuzzy sliding mode controller for an electro-hydraulic system with unknown dead-zone. The boundedness and convergence properties of the closed-loop signals are proven using Lyapunov stability theory and Barbalat’s lemma. Numerical results are presented in order to demonstrate the control system performance.  相似文献

Sliding mode control is a very attractive control scheme because of its robustness against both structured and unstructured uncertainties as well as external disturbances. In this way, it has been widely employed for the dynamic positioning of remotely operated underwater vehicles. Nevertheless, in such situations the discontinuities in the control law must be smoothed out to avoid the undesirable chattering effects. The adoption of properly designed boundary layers has proven effective in completely eliminating chattering, however, leading to an inferior tracking performance. This work describes the development of a dynamic positioning system for remotely operated underwater vehicles. The adopted approach is primarily based on the sliding mode control strategy and enhanced by an adaptive fuzzy algorithm for uncertainty/disturbance compensation. Using the Lyapunov stability theory and Barbalat’s lemma, the boundedness and convergence properties of the closed-loop signals are analytically proven. The performance of the proposed control scheme is also evaluated by means of numerical simulations.  相似文献

We consider it a great privilege to introduce this special two-issue series on Optimization of Discrete Event Dynamic Systems. Optimization has played a central role in the research discipline of discrete event dynamic systems since its inception, and has been the focus of many papers published in this journal since its creation. Driven by applications in several areas such as manufacturing, transportation, and telecommunications, the optimization problem has been addressed by our research community with particular emphases on theory, computation, and simulation. The purpose of this special issue is to bring together papers representing diverse problems of current interest, and to expose and highlight state-of-the-art ideas, techniques, and algorithms that have been developed for their solution.  相似文献

In this paper, we show how to use facial shape information to construct discriminating models for gender classification. We represent facial shapes using 2.5D fields of facial surface normals, and investigate three different methods to improve the gender discriminating capacity of the model constructed using the standard eigenspace method. The three methods are novel variants of principal geodesic analysis (PGA) namely (a) weighted PGA, (b) supervised weighted PGA, and (c) supervised PGA. Our starting point is to define a weight map over the facial surface that indicates the importance of different locations in discriminating gender. We show how to compute the relevant weights and how to incorporate the weights into the 2.5D model construction. We evaluate the performance of the alternative methods using facial surface normals extracted from 3D range images or recovered from brightness images. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of our methods. Moreover, the classification accuracy, which is as high as 97%, demonstrates the effectiveness of using facial shape information for gender classification.  相似文献

Adaptive Sampling for Network Management   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3  
High-performance networks require sophisticated management systems to identify sources of bottlenecks and detect faults. At the same time, the impact of network queries on the latency and bandwidth available to the applications must be minimized. Adaptive techniques can be used to control and reduce the rate of sampling of network information, reducing the amount of processed data and lessening the overhead on the network. Two adaptive sampling methods are proposed in this paper based on linear prediction and fuzzy logic. The performance of these techniques is compared with conventional sampling methods by conducting simulative experiments using Internet and videoconference traffic patterns. The adaptive techniques are significantly more flexible in their ability to dynamically adjust with fluctuations in network behavior, and in some cases they are able to reduce the sample count by as much as a factor of two while maintaining the same accuracy as the best conventional sampling interval. The results illustrate that adaptive sampling provides the potential for better monitoring, control, and management of high-performance networks with higher accuracy, lower overhead, or both.  相似文献

This paper exploits the properties of the commute time between nodes of a graph for the purposes of clustering and embedding, and explores its applications to image segmentation and multi-body motion tracking. Our starting point is the lazy random walk on the graph, which is determined by the heatkernel of the graph and can be computed from the spectrum of the graph Laplacian. We characterize the random walk using the commute time (i.e. the expected time taken for a random walk to travel between two nodes and return) and show how this quantity may be computed from the Laplacian spectrum using the discrete Green's function. Our motivation is that the commute time can be anticipated to be a more robust measure of the proximity of data than the raw proximity matrix. In this paper, we explore two applications of the commute time. The first is to develop a method for image segmentation using the eigenvector corresponding to the smallest eigenvalue of the commute time matrix. We show that our commute time segmentation method has the property of enhancing the intra-group coherence while weakening inter-group coherence and is superior to the normalized cut. The second application is to develop a robust multi-body motion tracking method using an embedding based on the commute time. Our embedding procedure preserves commute time, and is closely akin to kernel PCA, the Laplacian eigenmap and the diffusion map. We illustrate the results both on synthetic image sequences and real world video sequences, and compare our results with several alternative methods.  相似文献
