The main benefit, the economical manufacturability of traditional gear profiles, such as an involute, are no longer of major importance in times of computer-aided design and production. Due to existing modern production techniques standard and more sophisticated gear types can be produced with high precision and maintainable financial effort. Especially for non-standard gear types modern gear production systems ensure high quality and reliability to the operator with regard to flank and meshing geometry. Depending on the context of application different gear types have advantages and disadvantages concerning load carrying capacity, effectiveness or noise excitation. At the end of the nineteenth century, after twelve years of intensive research, the ophthalmologist Theodor Leber (1840–1917) established the chemotaxis of leukocytes as part of inflammation research. Although at the time his theory was smoothly enlisted into immunological research, up until now his name has been connected to chemotaxis only in the English-language literature. Leber was able to use his experimental system to develop a theory of the chemical attraction of the leukocytes during inflammation processes by the beginning of the 1880s, but his unconventional methodology—introducing chemically neutral contaminants in order to trigger inflammation in the eyes of rabbits—contradicted the basic bacteriological Denkstil (style of thought) of inflammation research at the time. Leber held fast to his research practice, which consisted of closely interlocking experimental and theoretical work. Only when an opening appeared in the bacteriological Denkstil was Leber able to transform his experimental observations, written on loose sheets of paper, into convincing evidence for his theory of inflammation. This micro-historical reconstruction of Leber’s experimental and written work, based on his original lab protocols, opens up the research practice of a scientist who was not recognized by the established microbiological inflammation research of the time. Moreover, persistent factors in the generation of knowledge are revealed by connecting this micro-historical reconstruction with a macro-history analysis. In this article, a new model predictive control approach to nonlinear stochastic systems will be presented. The new approach is based on particle filters, which are usually used for estimating states or parameters. Here, two particle filters will be combined, the first one giving an estimate for the actual state based on the actual output of the system; the second one gives an estimate of a control input for the system. This is basically done by adopting the basic model predictive control strategies for the second particle filter. Later in this paper, this new approach is applied to a CSTR (continuous stirred-tank reactor) example and to the inverted pendulum. For many organisms, meiotic double crossing over is less frequent than expected on the assumption that exchanges occur at random with respect to each other. This "interference," which can be almost total for nearby intervals, diminishes as the intervals in which the double crossovers are scored are moved farther apart. Most models for interference have assumed, at least implicitly, that the intensity of interference depends inversely on the physical distance separating the intervals. However, several observations suggest that interference depends on genetic distance (Morgans) rather than physical distance (base pairs or micrometers). Accordingly, we devise a model in which interference is related directly to genetic distance. Its central feature is that recombinational intermediates (C's) have two fates--they can be resolved with crossing over (Cx) or without (Co). We suppose that C's are distributed at random with respect to each other (no interference); interference results from constraints on the resolution of C's. The basic constraint is that each pair of neighboring Cx's must have between them a certain number of Co's. The required number of intervening Co's for a given organism or chromosome is estimated from the fraction of gene conversions that are unaccompanied by crossover of flanking markers. Current docking methods can generate bound conformations of a ligand close to the experimentally observed structure of a protein-ligand complex. However, the scoring functions used to evaluate the potential solutions are not yet reliable enough at giving the highest ranks to the best structure predictions. One approach to this problem is the use of filter functions that are applied to all docked conformations to remove structures with certain energetically unfavorable properties. We present a computationally efficient scheme for such a postprocessing of docking results. For each of the conformations generated for a given protein-ligand complex, four properties are calculated: the fraction of the ligand volume buried inside the binding pocket, the size of lipophilic cavities along the protein-ligand interface, the solvent-accessible surface (SAS) of nonpolar parts of the ligand, and the number of close contacts between nonhydrogen-bonded polar atoms of the ligand and the protein. These four terms were used to filter out the majority of the calculated solutions and to rescore the remaining ones. On a test set of 32 protein-ligand complexes, this protocol significantly improves the accuracy of the structure predictions. 相似文献
