Motivated by the increasing dependence of many systems on battery energy, we study the problem of optimally controlling how to discharge and recharge a non-ideal battery so as to maximize the work it can perform over a given time period and still maintain a desired final energy level. Modeling a battery as a dynamic system, we adopt a Kinetic Battery Model (KBM) and formulate a finite-horizon optimal control problem when recharging is always feasible under the constraint that discharging and recharging cannot occur at the same time. The solution is shown to be of bang–bang type with the property that the battery is always in recharging mode during the last part of the interval. When the length of the time horizon exceeds a critical value, we also show that the optimal policy includes chattering. Numerical results are included to illustrate our analysis. We then extend the problem to settings where recharging is only occasionally feasible and show that it can be reduced to a nonlinear optimization problem which can be solved at least numerically.  相似文献

Over the past decade, ice cream manufacturers have developed a strong understanding of the functionality of key ingredients and processing, developing effective explanations for the link between structure forming agents, stability mechanisms, and perceived quality. Increasing demand for products perceived as healthier/more natural with minimal processing has identified a number of new tools to improve quality and storage stability of frozen dairy desserts. Ingredients such as dietary fiber, polysaccharides, prebiotics, alternate sweeteners, fat sources rich in unsaturated fatty acids and ice strucsturing proteins (ISP) have been successfully applied as cryoprotective, texturizing, and structuring agents. Emerging minimal processing technologies including hydrostatic pressure processing, ultrasonic or high pressure assisted freezing, low temperature extrusion and enzymatically induced biopolymers crosslinking have been evaluated for their ability to improve colloidal stability, texture and sensory quality. Blockchain possesses the potential of transforming global supply chain management. Gartner predicts that blockchain could be able to track $2?T of goods and services in their movement across the globe by 2023, and blockchain will be a more than $3 trillion business by 2030. Nowadays, a growing number of blockchain initiatives are disrupting traditional business models in each sector. In this paper, we provide a timely and holistic overview of the state-of-the-art, challenges, gaps and opportunities in global supply chain and trade operations for both the private sector and governmental agencies, by synthesising a wide range of resources from business leaders, global international organisations, leading supply chain consulting firms, research articles, trade magazines and conferences. We then identify collaborative schema and future research directions for industry, government, and academia to jointly work together in ensuring that the full potential of blockchain is unleashed amidst the socioeconomic, geopolitical and technological disruptions that global supply chains and trade are facing.  相似文献

Time between events (TBE) charts are used in high-yield processes where the rate of occurrences is very low. In the current article, we propose a triple exponentially weighted moving average control chart to monitor TBE (regarded as triple exponentially weighted moving average TEWMA-TBE chart) modeled by a gamma distribution. One- and two-sided schemes of the proposed chart are designed and compared with the double EWMA DEWMA-TBE and EWMA-TBE charts. It is shown that the lower- and two-sided TEWMA-TBE charts outperform its competitors, especially for small to moderate downward shifts, while the upper-sided TEWMA-TBE chart has very good detection ability for small shifts. We also study the robustness of the proposed chart when the true distribution is a Weibull or a lognormal and it is found that the TEWMA-TBE chart has better robustness properties than its competitors, especially for small shifts. Two illustrative examples from airplane accidents and earthquakes are also provided to display the application of the proposed chart.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to discuss the influence of different filter surface chemistries on the properties of foam filters. For reliable results, it is essential to ensure comparable structural properties (cell size and strut thickness) for all different surface chemistries (Al2O3, MgAl2O4, 3Al2O3·2SiO2, SiO2, and TiO2) possess the same structural properties (cell size and strut thickness). Filters made of 100% of the investigated materials and alumina skeletons coated with the investigated materials were prepared. The coated alumina samples were sintered in one and two steps. The processing route with two sintering steps resulted in improved mechanical properties and comparable shrinkage and strut thickness. The 100% bulk foams possessed different pore sizes due to the differences of the material shrinkage. In this study, a comparison of the experimental investigated properties of the ceramic foam filters and the theoretically calculated values for foam materials derived from the bulk material properties is established.  相似文献

Measuring users’ emotional reaction to interactive multimedia and hypermedia is important. One particularly popular self-reported method for emotion assessment is the Valence-Arousal (VA) Scale: a 9?×?9 affective grid. This paper aims to identify specific stress region(s) in the VA space by combining self-reported ratings (pairs of VA) and physiological signals (skin conductance). To this end, 31 healthy volunteers participated in an experiment by performing five stressful interaction tasks while their skin conductance was monitored. The selected interaction tasks were most frequently listed as stressful by a separate group of 15 interviewees. After each task, participants expressed their perceived emotional experience using the VA rating space. Our findings show which regions in the VA rating space may reliably indicate self-reported stress that is in alignment with one’s measured skin conductance while using interactive applications. One additional important contribution of this work is the proposed approach for the empirical identification of affect regions in the VA space based on physiological signals.  相似文献

The nature and significance of time-domain approximations needed for a diakoptic solution using transmission-line modelling (TLM) are examined. Truncation, filtering and repeated convolution of time responses result in severe restrictions in the accuracy of time-domain diakoptics. The frequency-domain diakoptic method has several advantages, including speed and simplicity, and warrants further study.  相似文献

We used the molecular modeling program Rosetta to identify clusters of amino acid substitutions in antibody fragments (scFvs and scAbs) that improve global protein stability and resistance to thermal deactivation. Using this methodology, we increased the melting temperature (Tm) and resistance to heat treatment of an antibody fragment that binds to the Clostridium botulinum hemagglutinin protein (anti-HA33). Two designed antibody fragment variants with two amino acid replacement clusters, designed to stabilize local regions, were shown to have both higher Tm compared to the parental scFv and importantly to retain full antigen binding activity after 2 hr of incubation at 70°C. The crystal structure of one thermostabilized scFv variants was solved at 1.6 Å and shown to be in close agreement with the RosettaAntibody model prediction.  相似文献
