Rectangular dielectric waveguides are used in millimeter-wave applications. They have low loss and wide bandwidth at high frequencies. Another major advantage to dielectric waveguides is that they are inexpensive to design and manufacture. However, a major disadvantage to the dielectric waveguide is that they experience relatively high losses at bends and T-junctions. This paper looks at a novel approach in reducing the insertion loss in dielectric waveguide bends and T-junctions. A high dielectric material is inserted at the discontinuity, causing the electromagnetic energy to be coupled and launched toward the output. The dielectric constant of the material, position of the material, and shape of the material are instrumental in reducing the insertion loss. A transition discontinuity in the form of a 45° bend has also been found to reduce insertion loss when properly designed. The size, shape, and location of the discontinuity and the high dielectric material are optimized and compared to the results without a high dielectric material. The 90°- and 45°-bend simulations were verified by building test structures and comparing predictions of the insertion loss to measurements  相似文献

The IDG was originally founded to carry out research into the collection and processing of documentation relating to Italian legislation, case law and legal authority. The Institute has since concentrated on automated documentation and legal informatics, as well as the application of artificial intelligence to the law. This article describes the many projects undertaken at the Institute. Elio Fameli has, since 1971, been a researcher at the Instituto per la Documentazione Giuridica of Florence of the Italian National Research Council. He has worked in legal informatics generally but is mainly interested in problems specifically related to information systems and the application of artificial intelligence to the law. Currently, his research is focused on legal expert systems and the methodology and technology for their construction. He has, since 1975, been an editor of the international journal, Informatica e Dirrito and a member of the editorial board of the International Bibliography on Computers and the Law, published as a regular issue of the aformentioned journal.  相似文献

The use of the ellipsometer for the measurement of the thickness and refractive index of very thin films is reviewed. The Poincaré sphere representation of the state of polarization of light is developed and used to describe the reflection process. Details of the operation of the ellipsometer are examined critically. A computational method is presented by which the thickness of a film of known refractive index on a reflecting substrate of known optical constants may be calculated directly from the ellipsometer readings. A method for computing both the refractive index and thickness of an unknown film is also developed. These methods have been applied to the determination of the thickness of an adsorbed water layer on chromium ferrotype plates and on gold surfaces. In the former case the thickness was 23 to 27 Å, and in the latter was 2 to 5 Å. The measurement of the thickness and refractive index of barium fluoride films evaporated on chromium ferrotype surfaces is used as an illustration of the simultaneous determination of these two quantities.  相似文献

This paper develops an evaluation approach based on the Technique for Order Performance by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS). When the input for a decision process is linguistic, it can be understood that the output should also be linguistic. For that reason, in this paper we propose a modification of the TOPSIS algorithm which develops the above idea and which can also be used as a linguistic classifier. In this new development, modifications to the classic algorithm have been considered which enable linguistic outputs and which can be checked through the inclusion of an applied example to demonstrate the goodness of the new model proposed.  相似文献

Keratoconus (KC) is a corneal disorder whose etiology shares a close relationship with Lactoferrin (LTF) dysregulation and Toll-like Receptors 2 (TLR2) overexpression. This study shows how these two important biomarkers are clinically and molecularly interrelated, increasing knowledge about KC pathophysiology, and opening the door to future therapies. In this prospective clinical study, serum and tear LTF concentrations were quantified in 90 KC patients and 60 controls. A correlation analysis with multiple blood and tear immunoinflammatory mediators, and KC-associated tomographic parameters, was performed. An in vitro study using HEK-BlueTMhTLR2 cell cultures was also conducted to determine the expression and functionality of TLR2 under the influence of LTF treatment. As a result, a LTF decreased was observed in KC patients compared to controls (p < 0.0001), evidencing the strong correlation with TLR2 overexpression at systemic and ocular surface level, with inflammatory mediator upregulation and with KC severity. In stimulated cell cultures, TLR2 expression was decreased using 2 mg/mL of LTF. The levels of secreted embryonic alkaline phosphatase (SEAP) and interleukin-8 (IL-8) were also reduced in supernatants after LTF treatment. As conclusions, the dysregulation of LTF and TLR2 in the ocular surface of KC patients contributes to KC severity by maintaining a detrimental chronic immune–inflammatory state. The immunomodulatory properties of LTF on TLR2 expression suggest its potential as a therapeutic approach for KC.  相似文献

Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD) represents a highly heritable neurodegenerative disorder. Most of the heritability is caused by autosomal dominant mutations in the Microtubule-Associated Protein Tau (MAPT), Progranulin (GRN), and the pathologic exanucleotide expansion of C9ORF72 genes. At the pathological level, either the tau or the TAR DNA-binding protein (TDP-43) account for almost all cases of FTD. Pathogenic mechanisms are just arising, and the emerging role of non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs), such as microRNAs (miRNA) and long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs), have become increasingly evident. Using specific arrays, an exploratory analysis testing the expression levels of 84 miRNAs and 84 lncRNAs has been performed in a population consisting of 24 genetic FTD patients (eight GRN, eight C9ORF72, and eight MAPT mutation carriers), eight sporadic FTD patients, and eight healthy controls. The results showed a generalized ncRNA downregulation in patients carrying GRN and C9ORF72 when compared with the controls, with statistically significant results for the following miRNAs: miR-155-5p (Fold Change FC: 0.45, p = 0.037 FDR = 0.52), miR-15a-5p (FC: 0.13, p = 0.027, FDR = 1), miR-222-3p (FC: 0.13, p = 0.027, FDR = 0.778), miR-140-3p (FC: 0.096, p = 0.034, FRD = 0.593), miR-106b-5p (FC: 0.13, p = 0.02, FDR = 0.584) and an upregulation solely for miR-124-3p (FC: 2.1, p = 0.01, FDR = 0.893). Conversely, MAPT mutation carriers showed a generalized robust upregulation in several ncRNAs, specifically for miR-222-3p (FC: 22.3, p = 7 × 10−6, FDR = 0.117), miR-15a-5p (FC: 30.2, p = 0.008, FDR = 0.145), miR-27a-3p (FC: 27.8, p = 6 × 10−6, FDR = 0.0005), miR-223-3p (FC: 18.9, p = 0.005, FDR = 0.117), and miR-16-5p (FC: 10.9, p = 5.26 × 10−5, FDR = 0.001). These results suggest a clear, distinctive pattern of dysregulation among ncRNAs and specific enrichment gene pathways between mutations associated with the TDP-43 and tau pathologies. Nevertheless, these preliminary results need to be confirmed in a larger independent cohort.  相似文献
