Carminic acid (CA) is a natural red pigment produced by Dactylopius coccus C. insects. It is widely used in the food industry to replace synthetic colourants. Despite being known for a long time, its antioxidant properties have not been studied so far. The aim of this study was to determine CA activities by different methods namely, free radical scavenging capacity against DPPH and ABTS radicals as well as its inhibition ability of β-carotene bleaching enzymatically induced by lipoxygenase (LOX). CA exhibited a remarkable antiradical activity similar to that of known antioxidants such as quercetin, ascorbic acid and trolox. Effectiveness of CA to protect β-carotene in the co-oxidation with linoleic acid is attributed to enzymatic inhibition of LOX rather than peroxyl radical trapping. 相似文献

The synthesis of two new types of methacrylic polybetaines bearing trans-4-hydroxy-l-proline connected via its hydroxyl group is described, one with an aliphatic spacer of 6 carbon atoms and the other without any spacer. The pH sensitivity in aqueous media and the catalytic activity of the products in asymmetric aldol additions have been studied. The two polyzwitterions show an isoelectric point (IEP) close to 3. Swelling of networks prepared with the two monomers exhibit reversible pH sensitivity; the largest the pH distance from the IEP, the higher the net charge (positive or negative) and the higher the swelling. At basic pH and an ionic strength of 0.15, maximum swelling degrees of around 11 and 24 (g water/g polymer) have been found for the systems with and without spacer respectively. The polymers have been shown to be efficient catalysts for aldol reactions under homogeneous conditions in DMF but not in water. 相似文献

Bioactive glasses exhibit the unique ability of bone bonding, thus creating a stable interface by stimulating bone cells toward mechanisms of regeneration and self-repair activated by ionic dissolution products. Therefore, 3D glass-derived scaffolds can be considered ideal porous templates to be used in bone tissue engineering strategies and regenerative medicine. Biocatalytic dealkylation of aryl methyl ethers is an attractive reaction for valorization of lignin components, as well as for deprotection of hydroxy functionalities in synthetic chemistry. We explored the demethylation of various aryl methyl ethers by using an oxidative demethylase from Pseudomonas sp. HR199. The Rieske monooxygenase VanA and its partner electron transfer protein VanB were recombinantly coexpressed in Escherichia coli and they constituted at least 25 % of the total protein content. Enzymatic transformations showed that VanB accepts NADH and NADPH as electron donors. The VanA–VanB system demethylates a number of aromatic substrates, the presence of a carboxylic acid moiety is essential, and the catalysis occurs selectively at the meta position to this carboxylic acid in the aromatic ring. The reaction is inhibited by the by-product formaldehyde. Therefore, we tested three different cascade/tandem reactions for cofactor regeneration and formaldehyde elimination; in particular, conversion was improved by addition of formaldehyde dehydrogenase and formate dehydrogenase. Finally, the biocatalyst was applied for the preparation of protocatechuic acid from vanillic acid, giving a 77 % yield of the desired product. The described reaction may find application in the conversion of lignin components into diverse hydroxyaromatic building blocks and generally offers potential for new, mild methods for efficient unmasking of phenols. 相似文献

In this study, Enterocin 416K1, a bacteriocin produced by Enterococcus casseliflavus IM 416K1, was entrapped in an organic-inorganic hybrid coating applied to a LDPE (low-density polyethylene) film for its potential use in the active food packaging field. The antibacterial activity of the coated film was evaluated against Listeria monocytogenes NCTC 10888 by qualitative modified agar diffusion assay, quantitative determination in listeria saline solution suspension and direct contact with artificially contaminated food samples (frankfurters and fresh cheeses) stored at room and refrigeration temperatures. All investigations demonstrated that enterocin-activated coatings have a good anti-listeria activity. Qualitative tests showed a clear zone of inhibition in the indicator lawn in contact with and around the coated film. During the quantitative antibacterial evaluation the L. monocytogenes viable counts decreased to 1.5 log units compared to the control. The inhibitory capability was confirmed also in food-contact assays. In all food samples packed with coated films we observed a significant decrease in L. monocytogenes viable counts in the first 24 h compared to the control. This difference was generally maintained up to the seventh day and then decreased, with the exception of the cheese samples stored at refrigeration temperature. 相似文献

A new analytical method, using pressurised liquid extraction (PLE) and liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry (LC–MS/MS), was developed for the simultaneous determination of bisphenol A (BPA), octylphenol (OP) and nonylphenol (NP) in powdered infant formulas (IF) and powdered skimmed milk (PM). The analytes were extracted by PLE, using this optimised conditions: ethyl acetate as solvent, 70 °C of temperature, reversed-phase silica C18 as dispersing agent and three cycles of extraction. The extracts were then injected in LC–MS/MS using a Gemini C18 column and a mixture of 5% water and 95% methanol/acetonitrile, both with 0.1% ammonia, as a mobile phase. Recoveries at different fortification levels (0.5 and 0.05 mg kg−1), were between 89% and 92% for BPA, 84 and 98% for OP, and 93% and 101% for NP. The method was applied to the analysis of samples of PM and IF, bought in Italian and Spanish markets. In positive samples, phenols concentration ranged from 0.07 to 1.29 mg kg−1 for BPA, from 0.028 to 1.55 mg kg−1 for OP and from 0.026 to 1.47 mg kg−1 for NP. 相似文献

This study assessed the performance of modeling approaches to estimate personal exposure in Kenyan homes where cooking fuel combustion contributes substantially to household air pollution (HAP). We measured emissions (PM2.5, black carbon, CO); household air pollution (PM2.5, CO); personal exposure (PM2.5, CO); stove use; and behavioral, socioeconomic, and household environmental characteristics (eg, ventilation and kitchen volume). We then applied various modeling approaches: a single-zone model; indirect exposure models, which combine person-location and area-level measurements; and predictive statistical models, including standard linear regression and ensemble machine learning approaches based on a set of predictors such as fuel type, room volume, and others. The single-zone model was reasonably well-correlated with measured kitchen concentrations of PM2.5 (R2 = 0.45) and CO (R2 = 0.45), but lacked precision. The best performing regression model used a combination of survey-based data and physical measurements (R2 = 0.76) and a root mean-squared error of 85 µg/m3, and the survey-only-based regression model was able to predict PM2.5 exposures with an R2 of 0.51. Of the machine learning algorithms evaluated, extreme gradient boosting performed best, with an R2 of 0.57 and RMSE of 98 µg/m3. 相似文献
