We experienced five patients with prostate cancer with disseminated intravascular coagulation syndrome (DIC) at the first presentation at Gunma University Hospital and affiliated institutions between 1991 and 1997. Their average age was 68 years, average DIC score at the first presentation was 10 and prostate specific antigen (PSA) level was more than 700 ng/ml. All of them had multiple bone metastases. The therapy for DIC and hormonal therapy for prostate cancer were simultaneously started at the first presentation before prostate needle biopsy, but all patients died. The average number of days from the start of DIC to death was 685 days. The patients initially showed a good response to therapy, but their conditions soon aggravated. The prognosis was extremely poor, but some proper therapies lead to the prognosis which was equal to that of prostate cancer in Stage D2 without DIC.  相似文献

Once pasteurized donor milk is thawed for its administration to a preterm or sick neonate, and until it is administered, it is kept refrigerated at 4 to 6°C for 24 h. After this time, unconsumed milk is discarded. This time has not been extended, primarily because of the concern of bacterial contamination. The aim of this study was to determine the changes in pH and bacterial count when pasteurized donor milk was kept under refrigeration for a prolonged period (14 d). In this prospective study, 30 samples of pasteurized donor milk from 18 donors were analyzed. Milk was handled following the regular operating protocols established in the neonatal unit and was kept refrigerated after thawing. pH measurements and bacteriology (on blood agar and MacConkey agar plates) were performed on each sample at time 0 (immediately after thawing) and then every day for 14 d. Changes in pH of samples over time were evaluated with linear mixed-effects regression models. A slow but gradual increase in milk pH was observed starting from the first day [mean (±SD) pH of 7.30 (±0.18) at time 0 and 7.69 (±0.2) on d 14]. No bacterial growth was observed in any of the samples throughout the complete trial except in one sample, in which Bacillus flexus was isolated. In conclusion, pasteurized human donor milk maintains its microbiological quality when properly handled and refrigerated (4–6°C). The slight and continuous increase in milk pH after the first day could be due to changes in the solubility of calcium and phosphate during refrigerated storage.  相似文献

The aim of this study is the preparation and characterization of dense cubic zirconia ceramics and zirconia nanocomposites (reinforced with 5 wt% alumina). The powders were obtained through sol–gel methods and densified using classical sintering and spark plasma sintering (SPS) methods. The obtained ceramics were characterized through X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and impedance spectroscopy at room and high temperature. The average grain size of cubic zirconia particles was found to be approximately 8 and 2.5 μm for the classical sintering and 99 nm for SPS. The alumina particles in composites have an average grain size of 0.7 μm for classical sintering and 53 nm for SPS ones. The total conductivity for nanocomposites sintered through both methods was also determined.  相似文献

Static images of the human body using electrical impedance tomography techniques can be obtained by measuring at two or more different frequencies. The frequencies used depend on the application, and their selection depends on the frequency behaviour of the impedance for the target tissue. An analysis using available data and theoretical models for tissue impedance yields the expected impedance and boundary voltage changes, therefore setting the measurement instrument specifications. The instrument errors produced by different sources are analysed, and, from this analysis it is possible to determine the feasibility of building the instrument, the limit values for some parameters (or components) and indications on the most suitable design of critical parts. This analysis also shows what kinds of error can be expected in the reconstructed images. It is concluded that it is possible to build an instrument with limited errors, allowing static images to be obtained. An instrument has been built that meets some of the design requirements and fails in others because of technological problems. In vivo images obtained with this instrument will be presented in Part 2 of this work.  相似文献

The effect of AMPA-receptor stimulation on MMP and on the concentration of intracellular calcium ([Ca2+]i) was studied in dissociated CGC from rat pups, by flow cytometry. In the presence of cyclothiazide, AMPA induced a sodium-independent decrease in MMP up to 30.7+/-2.5%. This effect was antagonized by CNQX and NBQX. Mepacrine and dibucaine reversed the effect of AMPA on MMP, suggesting that it is mediated by a release of arachidonic acid. AMPA alone induced a slight (about 7%) increase in [Ca2+]i. In the presence of cyclothiazide, AMPA induced a concentration-dependent [Ca2+]i increase up to 29.10+/-2.10% that was not reversed by flunarizine. This increase was similar to that observed in a Na+-free medium, and was antagonized by CNQX and NBQX, but not by MK-801. Mitochondria play a key role in the modulation of [Ca2+]i since a significant [Ca2+]i increase was found in the presence of FCCP. On the other hand, the dantrolene-sensitive calcium pools do not participate in the [Ca2+]i increase induced by stimulation of AMPA receptors. It is concluded that when AMPA-receptor desensitization is blocked, a decrease in MMP and an increase in [Ca2+]i occurs, which could be additional events to potentiate neuronal cell death induced by glutamate.  相似文献

Heart rate detection from plantar bioimpedance measurements   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
In this paper, a novel technique for heart rate measurement on a standing subject is proposed that relies on electrical impedance variations detected by a plantar interface with booth feet, such as those in some bathroom weighting scales for body composition analysis. Heart-related impedance variations in the legs come from arterial blood circulation and are below 500 mOmega. To detect them, we have implemented a system with a gain in excess of 600, and whose fully differential AC input amplifier has a gain of 4.5 and a common-mode rejection ratio (CMRR) higher than 90 dB at 10 kHz. Differential coherent demodulation based on synchronous sampling yields a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of about 54 dB . The system sensitivity is 610 mV/Omega. The technique has been demonstrated on 18 volunteers, whose bioimpedance signal and ECG were simultaneously recorded. A Bland-Altman plot shows a mean bias of -0.2 ms between the RR time intervals obtained from these two signals, which is negligible. The technique is simple and user friendly and does not require any additional sensors or electrodes attached to the body, hence no conductive gel or skin preparation.  相似文献

The systematic accident cost analysis (SACA) project was carried out during 2001 by The Aarhus School of Business and PricewaterhouseCoopers Denmark with financial support from The Danish National Working Environment Authority. Its focused on developing and testing a method for evaluating occupational costs of companies for use by occupational health and safety professionals. The method was tested in nine Danish companies within three different industry sectors and the costs of 27 selected occupational accidents in these companies were calculated. One of the main conclusions is that the SACA method could be used in all of the companies without revisions. The evaluation of accident cost showed that 2/3 of the costs of occupational accidents are visible in the Danish corporate accounting systems reviewed while 1/3 is hidden from management view. The highest cost of occupational accidents for a company with 3.600 employees was estimated to approximately US$ 682.000. The paper includes an introduction regarding accident cost analysis in companies, a presentation of the SACA project methodology and the SACA method itself, a short overview of some of the results of the SACA project and a conclusion. Specific peptide sequences designed by inspection of protein–protein interfaces have been identified and used as tectons in hybrid functional materials. Here, an 8‐mer peptide derived from an interface of the peroxiredoxin family of self‐assembling proteins is exploited to encode the assembly of the perylene imide‐based organic semiconductor building blocks. By augmenting the peptide with additional functionality to trigger aggregation and manipulate the directionality of peptide‐semiconductor coupling, a series of hybrid materials based on the natural peptide interface is presented. Using spectroscopic probes, the mode of self‐assembly and the electronic coupling between neighboring perylene units is shown to be strongly affected by the number of peptides attached, and by their backbone directionality. The disubstituted material with peptides extending in the N to C direction away from the perylene core exhibits strong coupling and long‐range order, both attractive properties for electronic device applications. A bio‐organic field‐effect transistor is fabricated using this material, highlighting the possibilities of exploiting natural peptide tectons to encode self‐assembly in other functional materials and devices.  相似文献
