Comments on the article by J. L. Alpert et al (see record 2000-13581-002), which presented the report of the American Psychological Association Working Group on Investigation of Memories of Childhood Abuse. The authors discuss 4 issues in this commentary: (a) the assumptions and evidence used to support the case for dissociated and recovered memories (noting that the evidence is weak and the assumptions internally inconsistent as well as contradictory to a mass of experimental evidence about human memory); (b) the process by which dissociated memories are said to be recovered (events that were originally very poorly encoded as fragmentary, kinesthetic memories cannot be recovered with accuracy later); (c) 4 bodies of relevant, but neglected, research on human memory (reminiscence and hypermnesia, effectiveness of retrieval cues, priming in implicit memory tests, and intentional forgetting); and (d) the issue of appropriate research strategies to gain evidence on the thorny issues of long-delayed retrieval of information. Current evidence does not support the conclusion that memories of repeated abuse are dissociated and recovered with accuracy years later. Exhaustive characterizations of antisera to the structurally related peptides pancreatic polypeptide (PP), neuropeptide Y (NPY), and peptide YY (PYY) enabled us to establish the developmental pattern of these peptides in rat and mouse pancreas. PYY was the earliest detectable peptide and was present in all early appearing endocrine cell types. NPY appeared later and occurred exclusively in a subpopulation of insulin cells, whereas PP cells arose latest. At the earliest stage studied, all endocrine cells stored PYY. Most of these cells also contained glucagon. Subsequently, the endocrine cells comprised glucagon+PYY cells and glucagon+PYY+insulin cells. Later, cells storing either only insulin or insulin+PYY appeared. Quantitations of the relative numbers of these cell populations during development were consistent with a precursor role of triple-positive (insulin+glucagon+PYY) cells. Moreover, bromodeoxyuridine (BrdU) injections at E15.5 showed that a large percentage of triple-positive cells were in S-phase and therefore were actively dividing, whereas almost no pure insulin cells or insulin+PYY cells synthesized DNA at this time. These results suggest that PYY-positive endocrine cells may represent precursors for mature islet cells.  相似文献

In the electrical design of a high-voltage substation, the designer needs a simple and reliable tool, preferably a closed-form formula, when calculating the surface voltage gradient of line segments within the substation since the surface voltage gradient is the governing parameter of the corona performance. This paper presents a derivation of a closed-form formula for calculation of the maximum surface voltage gradient of a special line configuration, namely a horizontal AC three-phase line configuration with bundle conductors consisting of three sub-conductors in a horizontal arrangement. The formula has been verified against exact calculations and was found to have an error less than 5% for all practical combinations of the conductor radius, the sub-conductor spacing, the phase distance, and the height above earth  相似文献

In a world in which millions of people express their opinions about commercial products in blogs, wikis, fora, chats and social networks, the distillation of knowledge from this huge amount of unstructured information can be a key factor for marketers who want to create an image or identity in the minds of their customers for their product, brand or organization. Opinion mining for product positioning, in fact, is getting a more and more popular research field but the extraction of useful information from social media is not a simple task. In this work we merge AI and Semantic Web techniques to extract, encode and represent this unstructured information. In particular, we use Sentic Computing, a multi-disciplinary approach to opinion mining and sentiment analysis, to semantically and affectively analyze text and encode results in a semantic aware format according to different web ontologies. Eventually we represent this information as an interconnected knowledge base which is browsable through a multi-faceted classification website.  相似文献

To make media resources a prime citizen on the Web, we have to go beyond simply replicating digital media files. The Web is based on hyperlinks between Web resources, and that includes hyperlinking out of resources (e.g., from a word or an image within a Web page) as well as hyperlinking into resources (e.g., fragment URIs into Web pages). To turn video and audio into hypervideo and hyperaudio, we need to enable hyperlinking into and out of them. The W3C Media Fragments Working Group is taking on the challenge to further embrace W3C??s mission to lead the World Wide Web to its full potential by developing a Media Fragment protocol and guidelines that ensure the long-term growth of the Web. The major contribution of this paper is the introduction of Media Fragments as a media-format independent, standard means of addressing media resources using URIs. Moreover, we explain how the HTTP protocol can be used and extended to serve Media Fragments and what the impact is for current Web-enabled media formats.  相似文献

We have in previous studies reported our findings and concern about the reliability and validity of the evaluation procedures used in comparative studies on competing effort prediction models. In particular, we have raised concerns about the use of accuracy statistics to rank and select models. Our concern is strengthened by the observed lack of consistent findings. This study offers more insights into the causes of conclusion instability by elaborating on the findings of our previous work concerning the reliability and validity of the evaluation procedures. We show that model selection based on the accuracy statistics MMRE, MMER, MBRE, and MIBRE contribute to conclusion instability as well as selection of inferior models. We argue and show that the evaluation procedure must include an evaluation of whether the functional form of the prediction model makes sense to better prevent selection of inferior models.  相似文献

Zusammenfassung Es wird über ein Verfahren zur Abtrennung der in gegrillten und geräucherten Lebensmitteln enthaltenen mutagenen polycyclischen organischen Stoffe in einzelne Klassen berichtet. Das Verfahren umfaßt eine erste Extraktion mit Aceton, das Abscheiden von Fett und Proteinen durch Ausfällung bei –55 °C und eine Säure-Base-Extraktion. Die weitere Fraktionierung erfolgte durch Gelfiltration und Silicagel-Chromatographie. Bei vier Proben von gegrillten Würsten waren 80 bis 90% der extrahierten Mutagenität (TA98 + S9) in den basischen Fraktionen enthalten. Die in der Flamme gegrillten Würste hatten eine höhere Mutagenität als die auf Holzkohle gegrillten. Bei den geräucherten Fischen war die Mutagenität gering und verteilte sich gleichmäßig auf die basischen und die neutralen/sauren Fraktionen. Einige Proben zeigten schwache Direktmutagenität in den neutralen/sauren Fraktionen. Die Anwesenheit von Nitrit in den gegrillten Würsten hatte keinen erheblichen Einfluß auf die Mutagenität. Die Gaschromatographie, Selektive Ionregistrierung-Technik, wurde erfolgreich zur Identifizierung mehrerer PAH-Verbindungen eingesetzt, und mit ihr konnten mehrere Nitro-PAH und oxydierte Verbindungen vorläufig identifiziert werden. Der Nachweis der Mutagene in den basischen Fraktionen gestaltete sich jedoch wegen Peak-Schweifbildung und mit-eluierenden Materials kompliziert.Summary A method for class separation of mutagenic polycyclic organic material in grilled and smoked foods is described. The procedure involves an initial extraction with acetone, removal of fat and proteins by precipitation at –55 °C, and an acid-base extraction. Further fractionation was carried out by gel filtration and silica gel chromatography. In four samples of grilled sausages, 80%–90% of the extracted mutagenicity (TA98 + S9) was contained in the basic fractions. Flame-grilled sausages showed higher mutagenicity than charcoal-grilled ones. In a smoked fish sample, the mutagenicity was low and evenly distributed between the basic and the neutral/acidic fractions. A few samples showed a weak direct-acting mutagenicity in the neutral/acidic fractions. The presence of nitrite in grilled sausages did not influence the mutagenicity markedly. Gas chromatography-selected ion monitoring was used to successfully identify a number of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and tentatively identify several nitro-PAHs and oxygenated compounds. However, the identification of mutagens in the basic fractions was complicated by peak tailing and the presence of co-eluting material.

The novel properties of carbon nanotubes have generated scientific and technical interest in the development of nanotube-reinforced polymer composites. In order to utilize nanotubes in multi-functional material systems it is crucial to develop processing techniques that are amenable to scale-up for high volume, high rate production. In this research we investigate a scalable calendering approach for achieving dispersion of CVD-grown multi-walled carbon nanotubes through intense shear mixing. Electron microscopy was utilized to study the micro and nanoscale structure evolution during the manufacturing process and optimize the processing conditions for producing highly-dispersed nanocomposites. After processing protocols were established, nanotube/epoxy composites were processed with varying reinforcement fractions and the fracture toughness and electrical/thermal transport properties were evaluated. The as-processed nanocomposites exhibited significantly enhanced fracture toughness at low nanotube concentrations. The high aspect ratios of the carbon nanotubes in the as-processed composites enabled the formation of a conductive percolating network at concentrations below 0.1% by weight. The thermal conductivity increased linearly with nanotube concentration to a maximum increase of 60% at 5 wt.% carbon nanotubes.  相似文献

Office workers perform tasks using different information and communication technologies (ICT) involving various postures. Adequate variation in postures and muscle activity is generally believed to protect against musculoskeletal complaints, but insufficient information exists regarding the effect on postural variation of using different ICT. Thus, this study among office workers aimed to determine and compare postures and postural variation associated with using distinct types of ICT. Upper arm, head and trunk postures of 24 office workers were measured with the Physiometer® over a whole day in their natural work and away-from-work environments. Postural variation was quantified using two indices: APDF(90-10) and EVA(sd). Various ICT had different postural means and variation. Paper-based tasks had more non-neutral, yet also more variable postures. Electronics-based tasks had more neutral postures, with less postural variability. Tasks simultaneously using paper- and electronics-based ICT had least neutral and least variable postures. Tasks without ICT usually had the most posture variability. Interspersing tasks involving different ICT could increase overall exposure variation among office workers and may thus contribute to musculoskeletal risk reduction.  相似文献
