Particulate-filled composites were prepared from CaCO 3 and polymer matrices of various acid-base characters. Interfacial interaction of the components was characterized by the reversible work of adhesion, which was calculated either from dipole-dipole or acid-base interactions. The thickness of the spontaneously formed interlayer was derived from the tensile strength of the composites. The results proved that acid-base interactions play an important role in interphase formation. The strength of interfacial adhesion is determined by the joint effect of dispersion forces and acid-base interactions. Stronger interaction leads to a thicker interphase with decreased mobility. Treatment of CaCO 3 with an aliphatic fatty acid leads to a decrease in the strength of interaction, and to changes both in the thickness and properties of the interphase. In composites containing coated fillers, acid-base interactions influence composite properties less due to the neutral character of the surface. 相似文献

Pineal gland melatonin is the darkness hormone, while extra-pineal melatonin produced by the gonads, gut, retina, and immune competent cells acts as a paracrine or autocrine mediator. The well-known immunomodulatory effect of melatonin is observed either as an endocrine, a paracrine or an autocrine response. In mammals, nuclear translocation of nuclear factor κ-light-chain-enhancer of activated B cells (NF-κB) blocks noradrenaline-induced melatonin synthesis in pinealocytes, which induces melatonin synthesis in macrophages. In addition, melatonin reduces NF-κB activation in pinealocytes and immune competent cells. Therefore, pathogen- or danger-associated molecular patterns transiently switch the synthesis of melatonin from pinealocytes to immune competent cells, and as the response progresses melatonin inhibition of NF-κB activity leads these cells to a more quiescent state. The opposite effect of NF-κB in pinealocytes and immune competent cells is due to different NF-κB dimers recruited in each phase of the defense response. This coordinated shift of the source of melatonin driven by NF-κB is called the immune-pineal axis. Finally, we discuss how this concept might be relevant to a better understanding of pathological conditions with impaired melatonin rhythms and hope it opens new horizons for the research of side effects of melatonin-based therapies. 相似文献

The present research deals with the production and characterization of geopolymers prepared by mixing metakaolin with a steel slag from the production of chromium-manganese steel, a commercial sodium silicate solution and a sodium hydroxide solution. Different specimens were prepared by mixing metakaolin with different proportions of steel slag (20, 40, 60, 80 wt%) characterized by different maximum particle size. Specimens containing just metakaolin and steel slag alone were also prepared for comparison. All specimens have been characterized regarding their compressive strength, specific surface area, water absorption and microstructure. It has been observed that the use of fine steel slag powders leads to increases the performances and that the specimens containing 40 wt% steel slag and 60 wt% metakaolin revealed the best overall behaviour. 相似文献

The importance of transparent conductive film is increasing due to its use in applications such as touch‐panel devices. Although indium tin oxide is widely used because of its high conductivity and transparency, conductive polymers are being studied as alternative materials that avoid the use of rare metals and the brittleness associated with existing systems. Polyethylene dioxythiophene (PEDOT)/polyethylene sulfonic acid (PSS) is drawing a lot of attention due to its well‐balanced conductivity, transparency, film formability, and chemical stability. The nonconductive PSS reportedly covers the conductive PEDOT. The PSS shell provides carrier and film‐formability to PEDOT but is also a barrier that hinders electrical conductivity. Therefore, the PEDOT film formability is explored supported by a substrate without the addition of PSS. The “hierarchical nanoporous layer glass” holds the PSS‐free PEDOT with its nanopores to form a homogeneous, transparent film. Many U.S. adults hold fatalistic beliefs about cancer prevention despite evidence that a large proportion of cancer deaths are preventable. We report findings from two studies that assess the plausibility of the claim that local television (TV) news cultivates fatalistic beliefs about cancer prevention. Study 1 features a content analysis of an October 2002 national sample of local TV and newspaper coverage about cancer. Study 2 describes an analysis of the 2005 Annenberg National Health Communication Survey (ANHCS). Overall, findings are consistent with the claim that local TV news coverage may promote fatalistic beliefs about cancer prevention. We conclude with a discussion of study implications for cultivation theory and the knowledge gap hypothesis and suggest foci for future research. 相似文献

High porosity and intense galvanic function related low electrolytic barrier profile and fast delamination of zinc-rich paints (ZRPs) are addressed by the utilisation of intimately structured, highly dispersed, polypyrrole (PPy) deposited alumina particles (PDAPs) embedded zinc-rich hybrid paints. The more globular but less-packed structure type PPy-contained water-solvent-prepared PDAPs-composited hybrids comprising spherical zinc pigment at 70 wt.%, provided moderate galvanic function with enhanced electrolytic barrier properties. In addition, the less globular structured but well-packed PPy-comprised aqueous ethanol-solvent-prepared PDAPs-composited hybrid coatings indicated highly efficient suppressed galvanic function and improved barrier properties, realising solid performance improvement over conventional ZRPs in immersion and salt-spray chamber tests. Furthermore, the application of highly dispersed PDAPs at a content of 3.2 wt.% while PPy incorporated into zinc-rich hybrids at 0.16 wt.% is proposed to result in emerging additional functionalities increasing long-term anticorrosive performance of ZRPs by inhibiting sacrificial and self-corrosion of zinc and scavenging oxidative radicals thereby hindering oxidative degradation of the organic binder. 相似文献

In an experiment exploring the impact of sound on sensations of telepresence, 126 participants watched a video clip using
either headphones or speakers. The results illustrate that sound is an important factor in stimulating telepresence responses
in audiences. Interactions between soundscape and screen size were also revealed. A traverse interaction between aural/visual
congruency and soundscapes was evident. A second data set of 102 participants was collected to illuminate the effect of technological
expectation that emerged in the first study. Expectations had been mentioned in other studies, and the data support the notion
that people have an expectation of the technological quality of a presentation. The results suggest that examining expectations
