The fabrication and performance of a sintered Peltier cooler (SPC) based on bismuth telluride with sintered silver interconnects are described. Miniature SPC modules with a footprint of 20 mm2 were assembled using pick-and-place pressure-assisted silver sintering at low pressure (5.5 N/mm2) and moderate temperature (250°C to 270°C). A modified flip-chip bonder combined with screen/stencil printing for paste transfer was used for the pick-and-place process, enabling high positioning accuracy, easy handling of the tiny bismuth telluride pellets, and immediate visual process control. A specific contact resistance of (1.4 ± 0.1) × 10?5 Ω cm2 was found, which is in the range of values reported for high-temperature solder interconnects of bismuth telluride pellets. The realized SPCs were evaluated from room temperature to 300°C, considerably outperforming the operating temperature range of standard commercial Peltier coolers. Temperature cycling capability was investigated from 100°C to 235°C over more than 200 h, i.e., 850 cycles, during which no degradation of module resistance or cooling performance occurred.  相似文献

A method is reported to make an electron source consisting of an individual multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWNT) mounted on a tungsten support tip, and cut to length using localized electron beam irradiation in a scanning electron microscope. The apex of the MWNT was transformed into a closed cap with at least one fullerene-like layer via an annealing process involving simultaneous heating and the extraction of an emission current of ~ 1 mA. The electron emission occurred at localized emission sites. The electron emission showed Fowler-Nordheim behavior, was highly stable with time, and exhibited a low energy spread. The structure of the caps of two MWNTs was studied with transmission electron microscopy before and after the cap closure.  相似文献

The application of fixed operational protocols and settings for membrane bioreactors (MBR) often leads to suboptimal filtration conditions due to the dynamic nature of mixed liquor characteristics. With regard to process optimization and energy savings, the potential benefits of a dynamic control system, enabling to adapt fouling control actions (ACS outputs) in an automated way to the actual mixed liquor fouling propensity, are thus obvious. In this paper, the pilot-scale validation of such an advanced control system (ACS) is elaborated. A specific on-line fouling measurement method, the MBR-VFM (VITO Fouling Measurement), was used for the evaluation of the mixed liquor’s reversible fouling propensity, which was used as a primary ACS input parameter. A first series of tests with a gradual increase in complexity of the selected input and output parameters indicated the functionality of the ACS and demonstrated a substantial reduction of aeration, however sometimes at the expense of a higher fouling rate. The ACS was further fine-tuned and subsequently tested for a longer period under more dynamic operating conditions. A significant correlation was found between the reversible fouling potential measured by the MBR-VFM and the on-line permeability, indicating that the MBR-VFM is a suitable ACS input. Furthermore, an average 22% reduction in aeration flow to the membranes could be achieved without any obvious negative effect on filtration performance. This indicates that this approach is promising to optimize energy consumption in MBRs.  相似文献

In the present paper research work is presented combining material related research, weld fabrication related research and research in the field of numerical analysis of welded joint performance. Elements belonging to this extensive combination are mechanical testing, fracture mechanics testing of small scale and full thickness specimens, component testing including engineering defect assessment and numerical modelling using finite element method. The silt density index (SDI) and modified fouling index (MFI) characterisation methods are well known for the evaluation of membrane fouling potential of dispersed particulate matter (suspended solids, colloids) in a feed. The SDI and MFI methods, however, reduce the overall and very complex fouling phenomena into a one number value, on which the interpretation of the fouling potential of the feed is based. Considering such a one number characteristic, a significant amount of information from the fouling measurement (data) is lost. In this paper a concept is introduced in order to preserve such information and supplement the existing indexes. The proposed method measures, processes and presents data in a specific format. To illustrate the concept, some results are shown from measurements on three types of feed. Future systematic research will also include the measurement on some model feeds with, for example, well characterised dispersions for comparison purposes. However, based on the contents of this paper, a discussion on the method could be initiated.  相似文献
