We have developed a decision support application for the Dutch Aviation Police and Air Support unit for routing their helicopters in anticipation of unknown future incidents. These incidents are not known in advance, yet do require a swift response. A response might include the dispatch of a police helicopter to support the police on the ground. If a helicopter takes too long to arrive at the crime scene, it might be too late to assist. Hence, helicopters have to be proximate when an incident happens to increase the likelihood of being able to support the police on the ground in apprehending suspects. We propose the use of a forecasting technique, followed by a routing heuristic to maximize the number of incidents where a helicopter provides a successful assist. We have implemented these techniques in a decision support application in collaboration with the Dutch Aviation Police and Air Support. Using numerical experiments, we show that our application has the potential to improve the success rate with a factor nine. The Dutch Air Support and Aviation Police are now using the application.  相似文献

This paper considers the fixed-structure, discrete-time mixed H 2 / H X controller synthesis problem in the delta operator (difference operator) framework. The differential operator and shift operator versions of the problem are reviewed for comparison, and necessary conditions are derived for all three formulations. A quasi-Newton/continuation algorithm is then used to obtain approximate solutions to these equations. Controllers are synthesized for two numerical examples, and the performance of the algorithm on the differential, difference and shift operator versions of the problems is compared.  相似文献

A one‐step process to fabricate crystalline Li4Ti5O12(LTO) particles directly from solution using an atmospheric pressure plasma jet (APPJ) is reported. This process uses Ti and Li ions‐containing salt solutions as the precursor, which is ultrasonically nebulized and then transported to the downstream of the APPJ using a carrier gas. With an extremely short contact time (<0.1 s) between the precursor droplets and the plasma jet, crystalline LTO can be fabricated in one step without additional rinse and postannealing steps. The LTO particle size can be effectively controlled using a preheater, the precursor solution composition and concentration, and the carrier gas flow rate. By properly adjusting the operating condition, particles of diameters from 100 nm to few μm with various morphologies can be obtained. When used as an electrode material, the resulting LTO powders fabricated under selected conditions show specific capacities over 100 mAh/g even at 50 C rate.  相似文献

In this paper we analyze the effect of including price competition into a classical (market entrant’s) competitive location problem. The multinomial logit approach is applied to model the decision process of utility maximizing customers. We provide complexity results and show that, given the locations of all facilities, a fixed-point iteration approach that has previously been introduced in the literature can be adapted to reliably and quickly determine local price equilibria. We present examples of problem instances that demonstrate the potential non-existence of price equilibria and the case of multiple local equilibria in prices. Furthermore, we show that different price sensitivity levels of customers may actually affect optimal locations of facilities, and we provide first insights into the performance of heuristic algorithms for the location problem.  相似文献

Hospitals traditionally segregate resources into centralized functional departments such as diagnostic departments, ambulatory care centers, and nursing wards. In recent years this organizational model has been challenged by the idea that higher quality of care and efficiency in service delivery can be achieved when services are organized around patient groups. Examples include specialized clinics for breast cancer patients and clinical pathways for diabetes patients. Hospitals are struggling with the question of whether to become more centralized to achieve economies of scale or more decentralized to achieve economies of focus. In this paper we examine service and patient group characteristics to study the conditions where a centralized model is more efficient, and conversely, where a decentralized model is more efficient. This relationship is examined analytically with a queuing model to determine the most influential factors and then with simulation to fine-tune the results. The tradeoffs between economies of scale and economies of focus measured by these models are used to derive general management guidelines.  相似文献

Dispersal of species is a fundamental ecological process in the evolution and maintenance of biodiversity. Limited control over ecological parameters has hindered progress in understanding of what enables species to colonize new areas, as well as the importance of interspecies interactions. Such control is necessary to construct reliable mathematical models of ecosystems. In our work, we studied dispersal in the context of bacterial range expansions and identified the major determinants of species coexistence for a bacterial model system of three Escherichia coli strains (toxin-producing, sensitive and resistant). Genetic engineering allowed us to tune strain growth rates and to design different ecological scenarios (cyclic and hierarchical). We found that coexistence of all strains depended on three strongly interdependent factors: composition of inoculum, relative strain growth rates and effective toxin range. Robust agreement between our experiments and a thoroughly calibrated computational model enabled us to extrapolate these intricate interdependencies in terms of phenomenological biodiversity laws. Our mathematical analysis also suggested that cyclic dominance between strains is not a prerequisite for coexistence in competitive range expansions. Instead, robust three-strain coexistence required a balance between growth rates and either a reduced initial ratio of the toxin-producing strain, or a sufficiently short toxin range.  相似文献

Texture mapping is an essential component for creating 3D models and is widely used in both the game and the movie industries. Creating texture maps has always been a complex task and existing methods carefully balance flexibility with ease of use. One difficulty in using texturing is the repeated placement of individual textures over larger areas. In this paper, we propose a method which uses decals to place images onto a model. Our method allows the decals to compete for space and to deform as they are being pushed by other decals. A spherical field function is used to determine the position and the size of each decal and the deformation applied to fit the decals. The decals may span multiple objects with heterogeneous representations. Our method does not require an explicit parametrization of the model. As such, varieties of patterns, including repeated patterns like rocks, tiles and scales can be mapped. We have implemented the method using the GPU where placement, size and orientation of thousands of decals are manipulated in real time.  相似文献

Detecting the molecular targets of xenobiotic substances in vivo poses a considerable analytical challenge. Here, we describe the use of an NMR‐based tracer methodology for the instantaneous in vivo observation of sulfur(IV) action on cellular metabolism. Specifically, we find that glycolytic flux is directed towards sulfite adducts of dihydroxyacetone phosphate and pyruvate as off‐pathway intermediates that obstruct glycolytic flux. In particular, the pyruvate–sulfite association hinders the formation of downstream metabolites. The apparent in vivo association constant of pyruvate and sulfite agrees with the apparent inhibition constant of CO2 formation, thus supporting the importance of pyruvate interception in disturbing central metabolism and inhibiting NAD regeneration.  相似文献

In this study, deposition conditions for making a‐SiOx:H are investigated systematically in order to obtain a high band gap material. We found that at given optical band gap, a‐SiOx:H with favorable opto‐electronic properties can be obtained when deposited using low CO2 flow rates and deposition pressures. We also found that a low radio frequency power density is required in order to limit the effect of ion bombardment on the material properties of i‐a‐SiOx:H and thereby the solar cell performance. In addition, by decreasing the heater temperature from 300 to 200°C when making the i‐a‐SiOx:H, the Voc can be increased. We employed optimized p‐doped and n‐doped a‐SiOx:H films into the p‐i‐n solar cells, and as a consequence, a high Voc of over 1 V and high fill factor (FF) are obtained. When depositing on texture‐etched ZnO:Al substrates, a high efficiency a‐SiOx:H single junction solar cell having a high Voc × FF product of 0.761 (Voc: 1.042 V, Jsc: 10.3 mA/cm2, FF: 0.73, efficiency: 7.83%) was obtained.
