The temporal trends of perfluoroalkyl compounds (PFCs), including C7-C15 perfluorocarboxylates (PFCAs), perfluorosulfonates (PFSAs) and heptadecafluorooctane sulfonamide (PFOSA), were determined in lake trout collected between 1979 and 2004 from Lake Ontario. The average concentrations of total PFSAs (+/- standard error of the mean; range) increased from 20 ng g(-1) wet weight (+/- 4; 8-26) in 1979, peaked at 70 ng g(-1) (+/- 7; 58-91) in 1993, and were 46 ng g(-1) (+/- 10; 30-83) in 2004, with perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) asthe most abundant PFC. The PFCAs exhibited similar temporal variation, with concentrations increasing from 1.4 ng g(-1) (+/- 0.1; 0.9-1.9) in 1979 to 9.4 ng g(1) (+/- 3.1; 3-17) in 1988, and were 6.8 ng g(-1) (+/- 1.0; 4.5-9.8) in 2004. Individual mean PFCA concentrations varied between 0.2 and 2 ng g(-1) (wet weight). Perfluorodecane sulfonate (PFDS) and PFOSA were the only compounds showing a declining trend in the past decade, after reaching a peak value in 1993. Branched C11 and C13 PFCA isomers were detected in the lake trout and confirmed in Niagara River suspended sediments, with trends in both matrices suggesting that declining emissions or use of products containing these isomers in part account for the observed PFCA trends in the mid-1990s. However, the most recent samples, comprised almost exclusively of linear isomers, indicate that current PFCA sources to Lake Ontario result from the telomerization process of linear telogens.  相似文献

Temperature dependencies of the pyrocharge were recorded in view of investigating the ferroelectric-to-paraelectric phase transition in barium titanate ceramics with average grain sizes between 0.5 m and 20 m. The transition temperature decreased with decreasing the grain size. The relatively small shift of the Curie temperature detected in these pyrocharge experiments suggests that internal stresses are the main cause of the observed grain size effects.  相似文献

From the beginning of molecular theory, the interplay of chirality and magnetism has intrigued scientists. There is still the question if enantiospecific adsorption of chiral molecules occurs on magnetic surfaces. Enantiomer discrimination was conjectured to arise from chirality-induced spin separation within the molecules and exchange interaction with the substrate's magnetization. Here, it is shown that single helical aromatic hydrocarbons undergo enantioselective adsorption on ferromagnetic cobalt surfaces. Spin and chirality sensitive scanning tunneling microscopy reveals that molecules of opposite handedness prefer adsorption onto cobalt islands with opposite out-of-plane magnetization. As mobility ceases in the final chemisorbed state, it is concluded that enantioselection must occur in a physisorbed transient precursor state. State-of-the-art spin-resolved ab initio simulations support this scenario by refuting enantio-dependent chemisorption energies. These findings demonstrate that van der Waals interaction should also include spin-fluctuations which are crucial for molecular magnetochiral processes.  相似文献

Raman spectra of oxacillin (OXN), carbenicillin (CBC), and azlocillin (AZL) are reported for the first time together with their full assignment of the normal modes, as calculated using Density Functional Theory (DFT) methods with the B3LYP exchange-correlation functional coupled to the 6-31G(d) and 6-311+G(2d,p) basis sets. Molecular docking studies were performed on five penicillins, including OXN, CBC, and AZL. Subsequently, their chemical reactivity and correlated efficiency towards specific pathogenic strains were revealed by combining frontier molecular orbital (FMO) data with molecular electrostatic potential (MEP) surfaces. Their bactericidal activity was tested and confirmed on a couple of species, both Gram-positive and Gram-negative, by using the disk diffusion method. Additionally, a surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS)—principal component analysis (PCA)-based resistogram of A. hydrophila is proposed as a clinically relevant insight resulting from the synergistic cheminformatics and vibrational study on CBC and AZL.  相似文献

Adipose-derived mesenchymal stromal cells (ADSC) are a promising source for cellular therapy of chronic wounds. However, the limited life span during in vitro expansion impedes their extensive use in clinical applications and basic research. We hypothesize that by introduction of an ectopic expression of telomerase into ADSC, the cells’ lifespans could be significantly extended. To test this hypothesis, we aimed at engineering an immortalized human ADSC line using a lentiviral transduction with human telomerase (hTERT). ADSC were transduced with a third-generation lentiviral system and a hTERT codifying plasmid (pLV-hTERT-IRES-hygro). A population characterized by increased hTERT expression, extensive proliferative potential and remarkable (potent) multilineage differentiation capacity was selected. The properties for wound healing of this immortalized ADSC line were assessed after 17 passages. Their secretome induced the proliferation and migration of keratinocytes, dermal fibroblasts, and endothelial cells similarly to untransduced ADSC. Moreover, they sustained the complete re-epithelialization of a full thickness wound performed on a skin organotypic model. In summary, the engineered immortalized ADSC maintain the beneficial properties of parent cells and could represent a valuable and suitable tool for wound healing in particular, and for skin regenerative therapy in general.  相似文献

There is an urgent need to improve human diet globally. Compelling evidence gathered over the past several decades suggests that a suboptimal diet is associated with many chronic diseases and may be responsible for more deaths than any other risks worldwide. The main components in our diet that need higher intake are whole grains, fruit and vegetables, and nuts and seeds; all of these are important sources of dietary fiber and polyphenols. The health benefits of dietary fiber and polyphenols are also supported by several decades of valuable research. However, the conclusions drawn from interventional human trials are not straightforward and the action mechanisms in improving human health are not fully understood. Moreover, there is a great inter-individual variation caused by different individual capabilities of processing, absorbing and using these compounds effectively. Data on the bioavailability and bioefficacy of hydroxycinnamic acids (HCAs) are limited when compared to other classes of polyphenols (e.g. anthocyanins). This review aims to summarize the latest research advances related to HCA bioavailability and their biological effects revealed by epidemiological data, pre-clinical and clinical studies. A data warehouse can store very large amounts of data that should be processed in parallel in order to achieve reasonable query execution times. The MapReduce programming model is a very convenient way to process large amounts of data in parallel on commodity hardware clusters. A very popular query used in data warehouses is star‐join. In this paper, we present a fast and efficient star‐join query execution algorithm built on top of a MapReduce framework called Hadoop. By using dynamic filters against dimension tables, the algorithm needs a single scan of the fact table, which means a significant reduction of input/output operations and computational complexity. Also, the algorithm requires only two MapReduce iterations in total–one to build the filters against dimension tables and one to scan the fact table. Our experiments show that the proposed algorithm performs much better than the existing solutions in terms of execution time and input/output. Copyright © 2014 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

In this study, we determined the potential of polyethylene glycol-encapsulated iron oxide nanoparticles (IONPCO) for the intracellular delivery of the chemotherapeutic doxorubicin (IONPDOX) to enhance the cytotoxic effects of ionizing radiation. The biological effects of IONP and X-ray irradiation (50 kV and 6 MV) were determined in HeLa cells using the colony formation assay (CFA) and detection of γH2AX foci. Data are presented as mean ± SEM. IONP were efficiently internalized by HeLa cells. IONPCO radiomodulating effect was dependent on nanoparticle concentration and photon energy. IONPCO did not radiosensitize HeLa cells with 6 MV X-rays, yet moderately enhanced cellular radiosensitivity to 50 kV X-rays (DMFSF0.1 = 1.13 ± 0.05 (p = 0.01)). IONPDOX did enhance the cytotoxicity of 6 MV X-rays (DMFSF0.1 = 1.3 ± 0.1; p = 0.0005). IONP treatment significantly increased γH2AX foci induction without irradiation. Treatment of HeLa cells with IONPCO resulted in a radiosensitizing effect for low-energy X-rays, while exposure to IONPDOX induced radiosensitization compared to IONPCO in cells irradiated with 6 MV X-rays. The effect did not correlate with the induction of γH2AX foci. Given these results, IONP are promising candidates for the controlled delivery of DOX to enhance the cytotoxic effects of ionizing radiation.  相似文献
