The two dimensional range minimum query problem is to preprocess a static m by n matrix (two dimensional array) A of size N=mn, such that subsequent queries, asking for the position of the minimum element in a rectangular range within A, can be answered efficiently. We study the trade-off between the space and query time of the problem. We show that every algorithm enabled to access A during the query and using a data structure of size O(N/c) bits requires Ω(c) query time, for any c where 1≤cN. This lower bound holds for arrays of any dimension. In particular, for the one dimensional version of the problem, the lower bound is tight up to a constant factor. In two dimensions, we complement the lower bound with an indexing data structure of size O(N/c) bits which can be preprocessed in O(N) time to support O(clog 2 c) query time. For c=O(1), this is the first O(1) query time algorithm using a data structure of optimal size O(N) bits. For the case where queries can not probe A, we give a data structure of size O(N⋅min {m,log n}) bits with O(1) query time, assuming mn. This leaves a gap to the space lower bound of Ω(Nlog m) bits for this version of the problem.  相似文献

Point location is an extremely well-studied problem both in internal memory models and recently also in the external memory model. In this paper, we present an I/O-efficient dynamic data structure for point location in general planar subdivisions. Our structure uses linear space to store a subdivision with N segments. Insertions and deletions of segments can be performed in amortized O(log? B N) I/Os and queries can be answered in $O(\log_{B}^{2} N)$ I/Os in the worst-case. The previous best known linear space dynamic structure also answers queries in $O(\log_{B}^{2} N)$ I/Os, but only supports insertions in amortized $O(\log_{B}^{2} N)$ I/Os. Our structure is also considerably simpler than previous structures.  相似文献

Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM) occupies an increasingly important role in engineering with all it has to offer in terms of new possibilities and improving designer/manufacturer productivity. The present study addresses machining of free-form surfaces on a 3-axis NC machine tool. There have recently been a large number of studies devoted to planning tool paths on free-form surfaces with various strategies being adopted. These strategies are intended to increase efficiency by reducing the overall length of machining. Often, the choice of the cutter is arbitrary and the work focuses on planning. In order to boost productivity, the present work offers assistance in choosing the cutting tool, the machining direction and cutting by surface zones, adopting a milling strategy by parallel planes. To do so, a comparison is made between milling using a spherical end milling cutter and a torus end milling cutter with the same outer radius. This comparison relates to the radius of curvature of the trace left by the cutter at the point of contact between the tool and the workpiece in relation to the direction of feed motion.  相似文献

In this article, the authors introduce and test a group-level perspective on the role of empathy and interpersonal attraction in helping. In line with our predictions, Study 1, a longitudinal field study of 166 AIDS volunteers, confirmed that empathy was a stronger predictor of helping when the recipient of assistance was an in-group member than when that person was an out-group member. Also as hypothesized, attraction was a stronger predictor of helping when the recipient was an out-group member than when that person was an in-group member. Study 2 replicated and further extended these results in a laboratory experiment on spontaneous helping of a person with hepatitis. Strengthening the validity of the findings, in both studies the effects of empathy and attraction held up even when the authors statistically controlled for potential alternative predictors of helping. The growth stress of Ti50Cu50 alloy films on alumina substrates was measured in situ under ultrahigh vacuum conditions with a cantilever beam technique as a function of substrate temperature and variation of copper concentration. The growth stress of films deposited at low temperature is interpreted to indicate the growth of amorphous respectively nanocrystalline films. At substrate temperatures above 300 °C, a novel tensile stress contribution is interpreted to be due to the formation of a preferentially oriented film of metastable copper vacancy superstructured γ-TiCu. Finally, at substrate temperatures above 365 °C, a polycrystalline γ-TiCu film is formed.Annealing of low-temperature alloy films gives rise to irreversible tensile stress changes indicating restructuring of the films. The stress change measured when annealing a superstructured γ-TiCu film is compressive and is assigned to the transformation of the metastable superstructure to polycrystalline γ-TiCu. The magnitude of this compressive stress contribution is strongly dependent on the copper concentration, i.e., copper vacancy concentration.  相似文献

Grid applications call for high performance networking support. One attractive solution is to deploy Grids over optical networks. However, resource management in optical domains is traditionally very rigid and cannot successfully meet the requirements of Grid applications, such as flexible provisioning and configuration. In this paper, we present a customizable resource management solution for optical networks where users can create lightpaths on demand and manage their own network resources. Thanks to a Grid-centric system architecture, lightpath resources can be shared among users and easily integrated with data and computation Grids.  相似文献

This letter presents a method for modelling and processing incomplete data in connectionist systems. The approach consists in applying a neuro-fuzzy coding to the input data of a neural network. After an introduction to the different kinds of imperfections, we propose a neuro-fuzzy coding in order to take incomplete data into account. We show the efficiency of this coding on the problem of the classification of seismic events. The results show that a neuro-fuzzy coding of the inputs of a neural network increases the performance and classifies incomplete data with little affect on the results.  相似文献

A range of functionalised polymethacrylate copolymers have been synthesised with different functionalities, polymer architecture and molecular weight. It is shown that appropriately functionalised block copolymers give enhanced film thickness and greatly reduced friction under low entrainment speed conditions, even with polymer concentration as low as 1% wt. This behaviour almost certainly results from the formation of an adsorbed brush-like film of thickness ca 20 nm on each polar surface. These films provide a highly viscous inlet that promotes fluid entrainment and thus maintains a separating film down to very low entrainment speed. The adsorbed polymer films are also able to maintain separation in stationary contact conditions. Randomly distributed copolymers do not show this type of behaviour. The friction reduction observed is more effective in unidirectional, mixed sliding–rolling than in reciprocating, sliding conditions. However, it is found that functionalised polymers and conventional organic and molybdenum-based friction modifiers can be combined to provide effective friction reduction over the whole range of rubbing conditions.  相似文献
