A typical multilayered armor system (MAS) is composed of a harder front ceramic tile, which is able to erode heavy ammunition, such as the 7.62 mm bullet, followed by a second layer to further reduce the impact energy. Aramid fabric is a common choice for the second layer. In the present work, polyester matrix composites reinforced with 10 to 30 vol% of curaua fibers, despite having much lower strength and stiffness than aramid fabric, displayed similar trauma indentation in a standard clay witness simulating the human body. Impedance matching and scanning electron microscopy analyses suggest effective energy absorption through ceramic fragment capture by curaua composites. Additionally, because of the high cost of aramid fabric, a full MAS with curaua fiber composite is much cheaper than a MAS composed of aramid fabric. Taking into consideration, both the economical and environmental advantages of natural fibers, it is concluded that curaua fiber‐reinforced polyester composite could replace aramid fabric as the second layer in MASs for personal ballistic protection. An initial set of 12 kinetic experiments was carried out to remove naphthalene from an aqueous effluent by photo-Fenton involving Fe0 and Fe2+ at two different concentrations of H2O2 (150 and 300?mg?L?1) and three different pHs (3, 5, and 7) (22×31 experiments). The rate constants (k) for the reaction of naphthalene degradation by involving Fe2+ as reactant were in general higher than those with Fe0, but the use of Fe2+ increased the concentration of naphthalene at equilibrium (Ce) when compared with the same response obtained with Fe0 at analogous conditions. A second set of twelve kinetic experiments of photo-Fenton degradation was also performed with persulfate as additive at the conditions already reported, but at a constant concentration of H2O2 of 150?mg?L?1 (21×31 experiments with NaCl +21×31 experiments without NaCl). In almost all the runs in which only the source of iron was varied, k from the kinetic data involving Fe2+ was higher than that involving Fe0, but no difference was observed in terms of Ce that was always zero. The addition of persulfate to treat the effluent either containing or not containing salt enhanced the chemical kinetics, and shifted the equilibrium toward the full removal of naphthalene. A final set of nine experiments of UV photo degradation of naphthalene by involving persulfate without iron, with Fe0 and Fe2+ in the pH range from 3 to 7 (32 experiments) mainly showed that the use of H2O2 may be avoided to remove rapidly and completely naphthalene from wastewater.  相似文献

This work concerns the study of some important physical and mechanical properties of a wool fabric treated with a roll-to-roll atmospheric plasma jet equipment. The plasma pilot unit, based on a post-discharge technology, was equipped with an innovative plasma-to-fabric contactor, which promotes a relevant penetration of plasma through the fabric structure and geometrically defines the atmosphere. Wool fabrics were processed at three different velocities (1, 3 and 6 m/min); the other process variables were kept constant. Tensile strength, elongation at break, surface thickness, wettability and air permeability increased after the plasma treatment, while several low-stress mechanical properties, strictly related to the handle, were not modified. SEM analysis was also carried out to better interpret the above macroscopic results.  相似文献

The effect of tin addition on niobia supported catalysts was studied and compared to the properties of alumina supported bimetallic Pt–Sn catalysts. The catalyst surfaces were probed by methylcyclopentane conversion, showing that both the presence of Sn and the reduction of the support caused a decrease in hydrogenolysis activity, favoring the ring enlargement reaction. The thermodynamics of reduction of these systems, evaluated by following the reduction step (temperature programmed reduction — TPR) with a differential scanning calorimeter (DSC), and irreversible H2 and CO uptakes, allowed to conclude that a Pt–Sn alloy is formed on niobia supported catalysts.  相似文献

An open-labeled randomized trial with parallel groups was carried out to study the effects of Dif1stat® (Monascus purpureus–Linear aliphatic alcohols–Niacin) in the treatment of primary moderate hypercholesterolemia. The trial lasted 8 months. The patients, males and females, were assigned to two groups: A (#130), treated with diet, and B (#110) submitted to diet + Dif1stat®. After 4 months, group A did not show significant changes in Total cholesterol (TC), LDL-cholesterol (LDLC), HDL-cholesterol (HDLC) or non-HDL-cholesterol (non-HDLC). The same group, showed a reduction in TC (–22%), LDLC (–30%) and non-HDLC (–27%) after 8 months (P ≤ 0.001). After 4 months, TC (–21.3%), LDLC (–29%), and non-HDLC (–26%) were significantly lowered in group B (P ≤ 0.001). In group B, TC, LDLC and non-HDLC showed a further reduction after 8 months: –29.4, –38 and –37%, respectively (P ≤ 0.001). Even triglycerides (TG) decreased significantly (–33%) (P ≤ 0.001). After 8 months, group B showed a significant reduction of TG (–33%) (P ≤ 0.001), when compared to group A. Some safety parameters were significantly reduced in both groups: AST and γ-GT in group A after 4 and 8 months, as well as ALT, AST and γ-GT in group B after 8 months (P ≤ 0.001). Dif1stat®, given with a suitable diet, was well tolerated in the long-term and induced an anti-atherogenic plasma lipid and lipoprotein profile, in patients with moderate hypercholesterolemia.  相似文献

A single-step method to coat and bifunctionalize water-reduced gold nanoparticles (NPs) with two distinct reactive groups is reported. The coating is based on a peptide that bonds to the NPs surface by its N-cysteine amino acid, terminates with a C-terminal lysine, and stabilizes the colloids, thanks to the surface organization provided by the rest of the non-polar chain. The process yields stable, non-cytotoxic NPs presenting reactive amine and carboxylic groups on the surface; these allow rapid, selective and modular conjugation of virtually any chosen biomolecule or fluorophore. Functionalized and conjugated nanostructures are analyzed by electrophoresis, SEM, SERS; their biocompatibility and delivery capability are tested by cellular-uptake experiments.  相似文献

CD38 is a transmembrane glycoprotein expressed by T-cells. It has been reported that patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) showed increased CD38+CD25+ T-cells correlating with immune activation and clinical signs. Contrariwise, CD38 deficiency in murine models has shown enhanced autoimmunity development. Recent studies have suggested that CD38+ regulatory T-cells are more suppressive than CD38 regulatory T-cells. Thus, we have suggested that CD38 overexpression in SLE patients could play a role in regulating immune activation cells instead of enhancing it. This study found a correlation between CD38 with FoxP3 expression and immunosuppressive molecules (CD69, IL-10, CTLA-4, and PD-1) in T-cells from lupus-prone mice (B6.MRL-Faslpr/J). Additionally, B6.MRL-Faslpr/J mice showed a decreased proportion of CD38+ Treg cells regarding wild-type mice (WT). Furthermore, Regulatory T-Cells (Treg cells) from CD38-/- mice showed impairment in expressing immunosuppressive molecules and proliferation after stimulation through the T-cell receptor (TCR). Finally, we demonstrated an increased ratio of IFN-γ/IL-10 secretion in CD38-/- splenocytes stimulated with anti-CD3 compared with the WT. Altogether, our data suggest that CD38 represents an element in maintaining activated and proliferative Treg cells. Consequently, CD38 could have a crucial role in immune tolerance, preventing SLE development through Treg cells.  相似文献
