Mobile learning is considered an evolution of e-learning that embraces the ubiquitous nature of current computational systems in order to improve teaching and learning. Within this context it is possible to develop mobile applications oriented to learning, but it is also important to assess to what extent such applications actually work. In this paper we present a new tool designed to reinforce students’ knowledge by means of self-assessment. Improvement in student achievement was evaluated and an attitudinal survey was also carried out to measure student attitudes towards this new tool. Three different experimental groups were selected for this research, with students aged from 14 to 21 years old, including high-school and university students. Results show that this kind of tool improves student achievement, especially amongst younger learners, with a relatively low impact on current teaching activities and methodology. 相似文献

One of the main problems of robots is the lack of adaptability and the need for adjustment every time the robot changes its working place. To solve this, we propose a learning approach for mobile robots using a reinforcement-based strategy and a dynamic sensor-state mapping. This strategy, practically parameterless, minimises the adjustments needed when the robot operates in a different environment or performs a different task.Our system will simultaneously learn the state space and the action to execute on each state. The learning algorithm will attempt to maximise the time before a robot failure in order to obtain a control policy suited to the desired behaviour, thus providing a more interpretable learning process. The state representation will be created dynamically, starting with an empty state space and adding new states as the robot finds new situations that has not seen before. A dynamic creation of the state representation will avoid the classic, error-prone and cyclic process of designing and testing an ad hoc representation. This study examines an Emergency Medical Service in order to analyze the composite set of activities and instruments directed
at locating the patient. The good management of information about the location of the emergency is highly relevant for a reliable
rescue service, but this information depends on knowledge of the territory that is socially distributed between EMS operators
and callers. Accordingly, the decision-making process often has to go beyond the emergency service protocols, engaging the
operator in undertaking an open negotiation in order to transform the caller’s role from layman to “co-worker”. The patient’s
location turns out to be an emerging phenomenon, collaborative work based on knowledge management involving two communities—the
callers and the EMS operators—that overlap partially. Drawing examples from emergency calls, the study analyzes the practice
of locating a patient as a complex and multi-layered process, highlighting the role played by new and old technologies (the
information system and the paper maps) in this activity. We argue that CSCW technologies enable the blended use of different
kinds of instruments and support an original interconnection between the professional localization systems and the public’s

The usability of the user interface is a key aspect for the success of several industrial products. This assumption has led to the introduction of numerous design methodologies addressed to evaluate the user-friendliness of industrial products. Most of these methodologies follow the participatory design approach to involve the user in the design process. Virtual Reality is a valid tool to support Participatory Design, because it facilitates the collaboration among designers and users.The present study aims to evaluate the feasibility and the efficacy of an innovative Participatory Design approach where Virtual Reality plays a ‘double role’: a tool to evaluate the usability of the virtual product interface, and a communication channel that allows users to be directly involved in the design process as co-designers.In order to achieve these goals, we conducted three experiments: the purpose of the first experiment is to determine the influence of the virtual interface on the usability evaluation by comparing “user–real product” interaction and “user–virtual product” interaction. Subsequently, we tested the effectiveness of our approach with two experiments involving users (directly or through their participation in a focus group) in the redesign of a product user interface. Sensitivity analysis studies how the variation in model outputs can be due to different sources of variation. This issue is addressed, in this study, as an application of sensitivity analysis techniques to a crop model in the Mediterranean region. In particular, an application of Morris and Sobol' sensitivity analysis methods to the rice model WARM is presented. The output considered is aboveground biomass at maturity, simulated at five rice districts of different countries (France, Greece, Italy, Portugal, and Spain) for years characterized by low, intermediate, and high continentality. The total effect index of Sobol' (that accounts for the total contribution to the output variation due a given parameter) and two Morris indices (mean μ and standard deviation σ of the ratios output changes/parameter variations) were used as sensitivity metrics. Radiation use efficiency (RUE), optimum temperature (Topt), and leaf area index at emergence (LAIini) ranked in most of the combinations site × year as first, second and third most relevant parameters. Exceptions were observed, depending on the sensitivity method (e.g. LAIini resulted not relevant by the Morris method), or site-continentality pattern (e.g. with intermediate continentality in Spain, LAIini and Topt were second and third ranked; with low continentality in Portugal, RUE was outranked by Topt). Low σ values associated with the most relevant parameters indicated limited parameter interactions. The importance of sensitivity analyses by exploring site × climate combinations is discussed as pre-requisite to evaluate either novel crop-modelling approaches or the application of known modelling solutions to conditions not explored previously. The need of developing tools for sensitivity analysis within the modelling environment is also emphasized. 相似文献

Signal processors exploiting ASIC acceleration suffer from sky-rocketing manufacturing costs and long design cycles. FPGA-based systems provide a programmable alternative for exploiting computation parallelism, but the flexibility they provide is not as high as in processor-oriented architectures: HDL or C-to-HDL flows still require specific expertise and a hardware knowledge background. On the other hand, the large size of the configuration bitstream and the inherent complexity of FPGA devices make their dynamic reconfiguration not a very viable approach. Coarse-grained reconfigurable architectures (CGRAs) are an appealing solution but they pose implementation problems and tend to be application specific. This paper presents a scalable CGRA which eases the implementation of algorithms on field programmable gate array (FPGA) platforms. This design option is based on two levels of programmability: it takes advantage of performance and reliability provided by state-of-the-art FPGA technology, and at the same time it provides the user with flexibility, performance and ease of reconfiguration typical of standard CGRAs. The basic cell template provides advanced features such as sub-word SIMD integer and floating-point computation capabilities, as well as saturating arithmetic. Multiple reconfiguration contexts and partial run-time reconfiguration capabilities are provided, tackling this way the problem of high reconfiguration overhead typical of FPGAs. Selected instances of the proposed architecture have been implemented on an Altera Stratix II EP2S180 FPGA. On this system, we mapped some common DSP, image processing, 3D graphics and audio compression algorithms in order to validate our approach and to demonstrate its effectiveness by benchmarking the benefits achieved. 相似文献

Comparing tree-structured data for structural similarity is a recurring theme and one on which much effort has been spent. Most approaches so far are grounded, implicitly or explicitly, in algorithmic information theory, being approximations to an information distance derived from Kolmogorov complexity. In this paper we propose a novel complexity metric, also grounded in information theory, but calculated via Shannon's entropy equations. This is used to formulate a directly and efficiently computable metric for the structural difference between unordered trees. The paper explains the derivation of the metric in terms of information theory, and proves the essential property that it is a distance metric. The property of boundedness means that the metric can be used in contexts such as clustering, where second-order comparisons are required. The distance metric property means that the metric can be used in the context of similarity search and metric spaces in general, allowing trees to be indexed and stored within this domain. We are not aware of any other tree similarity metric with these properties. 相似文献
