In the present research work, a non-edible oil source Cucumis melo var. agrestis(wild melon) was systematically identified and studied for biodiesel production and its characterization. The extracted oil was 29.1% of total dry seed weight. The free fatty acid value of the oil was found to be 0.64%, and the single-step alkaline transesterification method was used for conversion of fatty acids into their respective methyl esters. The maximum conversion efficiency of fatty acids was obtained at 0.4 wt% Na OH(used as catalyst), 30%(methanol to oil, v/v) methanol amount, 60 ℃ reaction temperature,600-rpm agitation rate and 60-min reaction time. Under these optimal conditions, the conversion efficiency of fatty acid was 92%. However, in the case of KOH as catalyst, the highest conversion(85%) of fatty acids was obtained at 40%methanol to oil ratio, 1.28 wt% KOH, 60 ℃ reaction temperature, 600-rpm agitation rate and 45 min of reaction time.Qualitatively, biodiesel was characterized through Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR) and gas chromatography and mass spectroscopy(GC–MS). FTIR results demonstrated a strong peak at 1742 cm~(-1), showing carbonyl groups(C=O)of methyl esters. However, GC–MS results showed the presence of twelve methyl esters comprised of lauric acid, myristic acid, palmitic acid, non-decanoic acid, hexadecanoic acid, octadecadienoic acid and octadecynoic acid. The fuel properties were found to fall within the range recommended by the international biodiesel standard, i.e., American Society of Testing Materials(ASTM): flash point of 91 ℃, density of 0.873 kg/L, viscosity of 5.35 c St, pour point of-13 ℃, cloud point of-10 ℃, total acid number of 0.242 mg KOH/g and sulfur content of 0.0043 wt%. The present work concluded the potential of wild melon seed oil as excellent non-edible source of bioenergy.  相似文献

Taxonomy of the genus Berberis is quite complex, due to overlapping morphological characters, making it very difficult to differentiate the species within the genus. In order to resolve this taxonomic complexity, the foliar anatomy of 10 Berberis L. species was carried out, for the first time from Pakistan, using light microscopy (LM). Significant variation in terms of epidermal cells shape, size, cell wall pattern, and stomata type was observed. B. baluchistanica has the largest epidermal cells, Adaxial: length = 45–(53.9 ± 3.6)–62.5 μm; and width = 22.5–(26.3 ± 1.3)–30 μm; Abaxial: length = 37.5–(43.25 ± 2.5)–50 μm; and width = 20–(22.6 ± 0.8)–25. The highest number of stomata was observed in B. glaucocarpa as 62 on the abaxial surface while the lowest number of stomata was recorded in B. baluchistanica as 8 on the adaxial surface. Of 10 investigated species, 6 possess anomocytic type stomata, while 2 species that is, B. aitchisonii and B. parkeriana have both anomocytic and anisocytic stomata while B. baluchistanica and B. calliobotrys have only paracytic type stomata. The highest number of cells per unit area was present on the adaxial surface of B. calliobotrys ranging from 245–(252.4)–260 followed by B. parkeriana with 209–(227.8)–250 on the abaxial surface. Stomatal index (SI) also varied considerably and was the lowest (2.6) percentage in B. baluchistanica and highest (31.9) percentage in B. kunawurensis. A taxonomic key based on micro‐morphological characters is provided for species identification.  相似文献

During October 2009 to September 2010, aflatoxin M1 (AFM1) levels were analyzed by HPLC-FLD in 356 milk samples of different lactating species (buffalo, cow, goat, sheep and camel) from Punjab (Pakistan). Recoveries of AFM1 ranged from 92 to 97% and the limit of detection (LOD) was 0.004 μg/L. For all lactating species the mean concentration of AFM1 was significantly higher in winter season than in summer (p < 0.05). The results showed that 55, 56, 32, 58 and 27% of winter milk samples of buffalo, cow, goat, sheep and camel exceeded the EU maximum limit (0.05 μg/kg), compared with 38, 33, 21, 36 and 14% of summer milk samples, respectively. For all lactating species the mean concentration of AFM1 was significantly higher in morning milks than in evening milks (p < 0.05). The percentage of morning milk samples exceeding the EU maximum limit was 72, 67, 69, 71 and 44% for buffalo, cow, goat, sheep and camel, while for evening milks percent non compliant rates were 39, 30, 18, 33 and 25%, respectively. The level of AFM1 tended to be higher in animal species fed mainly on concentrate mixtures (buffalo and cow) than in other species grazing on fresh greens.  相似文献

In this work, a low temperature aqueous chemical growth methodology was used for the fabrication of CuO nanostructures. The as-synthesised nanostructures were then elaborately characterised by number of analytical techniques such as scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray powder diffraction (XRD). The obtained nanostructures were observed to possess interlaced rice-shaped structural features with the length and width of individual rice determined to be in the range of 200–300 nm and 50–100 nm respectively. The unique nanostructures when utilised as electrode material exhibited excellent electro-catalytic potential towards oxidation of hydrazine in alkaline media. The excellent conductive of CuO added by the high surface area of obtained nanorice-like structures enabled development of highly sensitive (3087 µA mM−1 cm−2), selective and stable electrochemical sensor for hydrazine. In addition, the successfully application of the developed sensor in spiked tap, bottled and industrial water samples for the detection of hydrazine suggested its feasibility for practical environmental application.

Prefix delegation-based schemes have been proposed to solve the route optimization problem in NEtwork MObility where multiple IP-enabled hosts move together as a mobile network. Differences in the route optimization for hosts at the cost of increased signaling will result in performance difference of the schemes depending on parameters, such as speed of the mobile network, its distance from the home network (the network to which mobile network usually belongs), and the number of hosts in the mobile network. Although the effects of the first two parameters on the performance of the schemes have been studied, effects of increasing the number of hosts have not been studied. Therefore, there is a need to evaluate performance when the number of hosts is increased. We perform the evaluation through ns-2 simulation. Results show that the performance superiority achieved by the hosts?? route optimization is only affected by the distance significantly only when the number of hosts is small. The results will help to decide when to use the route optimization for hosts depending on the values of the parameters.  相似文献

In this paper, a study on the vibrations of functionally graded cylindrical shells based on the Winkler and Pasternak foundations is presented. The shell equations are amended by inducting the moduli of the Winkler and Pasternak foundations. The wave propagation method is employed to solve the shell dynamical equations. The method is based on the approximate eigenvalues of characteristic beam functions. The validity and accuracy of the present approach are verified by a number of comparisons.  相似文献

Careful design of the magnetic bias circuit used in ferrite phase shifters can help to reduce space, weight and energy consumption. Low reluctance circuits must avoid air-gaps and this can be achieved using toroidal-shaped ferrite inserts positioned inside a rectangular waveguide. Here, these ferrite inserts are fabricated using a viscous plastic processing method that avoids machining and produces a continuous magnetic circuit. Finite-element methods are used to initially model the magnetostatic solution for the bias circuit before being used to analyse the microwave performance of a double toroid phase shifter. A closedform technique is introduced to model the dielectric slab waveguide impedance transformer. The final insertion loss was ,1 dB over the 9.5?10.3 GHz band and return loss of 20 dB was achievable. The phase shift calculation agrees to within 10% of the measured values.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Cough associated with gastroesophageal reflux (GER) may originate in extrathoracic airway receptors made hypersensitive by acid-induced mucosal injury. OBJECTIVE: We investigated the role of laryngeal disease and dysfunction in the pathogenesis of GER-associated cough in nonasthmatic patients. METHODS: Seven patients with GER-associated cough were compared with 7 patients with GER but no cough. The patients underwent fiberoptic endoscopy for assessment of laryngitis and esophagitis (expressed by scores); esophageal manometry; 24-hour pH monitoring; lung function tests; and histamine inhalation challenge with assessment of bronchial threshold (concentration provoking 10% fall in FEV1 [PC10]), extrathoracic airway threshold (concentration provoking 25% fall in the maximal midinspiratory flow [PC25MIF50]), and cough threshold (concentration provoking 5 or more coughs PCcough). The patients were reevaluated after 3 months of medical treatment for GER. RESULTS: Patients with cough, compared with those without cough, had significantly higher laryngitis scores (P = .002), lower esophageal sphincter pressures, longer time with pH below 4 (P = .003), greater number of episodes of reflux longer than 5 minutes (P = .016), longer esophageal clearance time (P = .048), and significantly lower PC25MIF50 (P = .005) and PCcough (P = .008) values. Laryngitis score was significantly inversely related to either PCcough (P < .001) or PC25MIF50 (P <.01) but not to PC10. Laryngitis score, PC25MIF50, and PCcough were all closely related to GER severity. After GER treatment, laryngitis, PC25MIF50, and PCcough were all significantly improved. CONCLUSIONS: These findings suggest that GER-associated cough is strongly associated with laryngeal disease and dysfunction consequent to acid reflux injury in nonasthmatic patients.  相似文献

This study evaluated the applicability of skin- and teeth-attached reflex markers fixed to the mandible and the head for optoelectronic recording of chewing movements. Markers were attached to the upper and lower incisors and to the skin on the forehead, the bridge of the nose, the tip of the nose and the chin in seven subjects. Chewing movements were recorded in three dimensions using a high-resolution system for wireless optoelectronic recording. Skin markers were systematically displaced due to skin stretch. The largest displacement was observed for the chin marker, whereas minor displacement was found for markers located on the forehead and the bridge of the nose. In repeated recordings, the smallest intra-individual variation in displacement was found for the marker on the bridge of the nose. In spite of relatively large displacement for the chin marker, the temporal estimates of the mandibular movement were not affected. Teeth markers were found to significantly increase the vertical mouth opening, although the duration of the chewing cycle was unaffected. This indicates an increase in chewing velocity. We suggest that markers located on the bridge of the nose are acceptable for recordings of chewing movements. Skin markers on the chin can be reliably used for temporal analysis. They are also acceptable for spatial analysis if an intra-individual variability of 2 mm is allowed. Teeth-attached markers may significantly influence the natural chewing behavior. Thus, both types of marker systems have advantages as well as disadvantages with regard to the accuracy of the chewing movement analysis. Selection of a marker system should be based on the aims of the study.  相似文献

rho-Crystallins are major protein component found in the eye lenses of frogs of the genus Rana. Structural analysis has indicated that frog rho-crystallins belong to aldo-keto reductase superfamily (AKRs) which include aldehyde and aldose reductases, prostaglandin F synthase and several detoxification enzymes. Members of AKRs catalyze the oxidation-reduction reaction over a range of substrates using NAD(P)(H) as a cofactor. In spite of higher structural similarity with AKRs and cofactor binding affinity, the rho-crystallins were found to be catalytically inactive. This study presents comparative or homology modeling of rho-crystallin from bullfrog (Rana catesbeiana) in presence and absence of cofactor NADP and a competitive inhibitor, testosterone. The predicted models are explored to examine the catalytic cleft, cofactor binding affinity characteristics and substrate binding pocket.  相似文献
