Tall buildings suffer from low inherent damping and high flexibility. Therefore, a core-outrigger system is often used to stiffen such buildings. A modified form, known as the damped outrigger system, wherein vertically oriented dampers are installed between outriggers and perimeter columns, has been recently developed to supplement the damping. This paper studies the efficacy of a viscously damped outrigger system through dynamic analysis of a 60-story tall building subjected to nonconcurrent earthquake and wind excitations. Two ground motion sets (100 accelerograms) are used for the former and wind tunnel test data for the latter. Effects of three building parameters, namely, (i) the core-to-column stiffness ratio, (ii) the outrigger location, and (iii) the damper size, on the dynamic characteristics and seismic and wind responses are evaluated. Effects of damper nonlinearity on seismic and wind responses are also investigated considering energy-equivalent nonlinear viscous dampers. Finally, the optimum values of these parameters are determined. For example, the optimum outrigger location is found to be between to , where is the height of the building. The results also show that the damped outrigger system significantly outperforms the conventional one for seismic excitation, and it is very effective in reducing the wind-induced floor accelerations, provided the parameters are chosen appropriately. 相似文献
Flying Ad-hoc Network (FANET) is a new class of Mobile Ad-hoc Network in which the nodes move in three-dimensional (3-D) ways in the air simultaneously. These nodes are known as Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) that are operated live remotely or by the pre-defined mechanism which involves no human personnel. Due to the high mobility of nodes and dynamic topology, link stability is a research challenge in FANET. From this viewpoint, recent research has focused on link stability with the highest threshold value by maximizing Packet Delivery Ratio and minimizing End-to-End Delay. In this paper, a hybrid scheme named Delay and Link Stability Aware (DLSA) routing scheme has been proposed with the contrast of Distributed Priority Tree-based Routing and Link Stability Estimation-based Routing FANET’s existing routing schemes. Unlike existing schemes, the proposed scheme possesses the features of collaborative data forwarding and link stability. The simulation results have shown the improved performance of the proposed DLSA routing protocol in contrast to the selected existing ones DPTR and LEPR in terms of E2ED, PDR, Network Lifetime, and Transmission Loss. The Average E2ED in milliseconds of DLSA was measured 0.457 while DPTR was 1.492 and LEPR was 1.006. Similarly, the Average PDR in %age of DLSA measured 3.106 while DPTR was 2.303 and LEPR was 0.682. The average Network Lifetime of DLSA measured 62.141 while DPTR was 23.026 and LEPR was 27.298. At finally, the Average Transmission Loss in dBm of DLSA measured 0.975 while DPTR was 1.053 and LEPR was 1.227.
High peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems seriously impacts power efficiency in radio frequency section due to the nonlinearity of high-power amplifiers. In this article, an improved gamma correction companding (IGCC) is proposed for PAPR reduction and investigated under multipath fading channels. It is shown that the proposed IGCC provides a significant PAPR reduction while improving power spectral levels and error performances when compared with the previous gamma correction companding. IGCC outperforms existing companding methods when a nonlinear solid-state power amplifier (SSPA) is considered. Additionally, with the introduction of \(\alpha , \beta , \gamma \), and \(\varDelta \) parameters, the improved companding can offer more flexibility in the PAPR reduction and therefore achieves a better trade-off among the PAPR gain, bit error rate (BER), and power spectral density (PSD) performance. Moreover, IGCC improves the BER and PSD performances by minimizing the nonlinear companding distortion. Further, IGCC improves signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) degradation (\(\varDelta _{\mathrm{SNR}}\)) and total degradation performances by 12.2 and 12.8 dB, respectively, considering an SSPA with input power back-off of 3.0 dB. Computer simulation reveals that the performances of IGCC are independent of the modulation schemes and works with arbitrary number of subcarriers (N), while it does not increase computational complexity when compared with the existing companding schemes used for PAPR reduction in OFDM systems. 相似文献
The study identifies the causes of inconsistencies between the design and construction of large building projects. To achieve the study objectives, a questionnaire survey was carried out to collect information on potential causes of inconsistencies at the project design and construction interface. Responses from 27 contractors were analyzed. The results suggest that the involvement of designer as consultant, communication gap between constructor and designer, insufficient working drawing details, lack of coordination between parties, lack of human resources in design firm, lack of designer’s knowledge of available materials and equipment, and incomplete plans and specifications were considered as the most important causes of the project design and construction interface inconsistencies. On the other hand, project management as a professional service, weather conditions, nationalities of participants, involvement of the contractor in design conceptual phase, unforeseen problems, involvement of the contractor in design development phase, and government regulations were the least important causes of inconsistencies between professionals at the project design and construction interface in large building projects. 相似文献

Layout planning plays a key role in the inherent safety performance of process plants since this design feature controls the possibility of accidental chain-events and the magnitude of possible consequences. A lack of suitable methods to promote the effective implementation of inherent safety in layout design calls for the development of new techniques and methods. In the present paper, a safety assessment approach suitable for layout design in the critical early phase is proposed. The concept of inherent safety is implemented within this safety assessment; the approach is based on an integrated assessment of inherent safety guideword applicability within the constraints typically present in layout design. Application of these guidewords is evaluated along with unit hazards and control devices to quantitatively map the safety performance of different layout options. Moreover, the economic aspects related to safety and inherent safety are evaluated by the method. Specific sub-indices are developed within the integrated safety assessment system to analyze and quantify the hazard related to domino effects. The proposed approach is quick in application, auditable and shares a common framework applicable in other phases of the design lifecycle (e.g. process design). The present work is divided in two parts: Part 1 (current paper) presents the application of inherent safety guidelines in layout design and the index method for safety assessment; Part 2 (accompanying paper) describes the domino hazard sub-index and demonstrates the proposed approach with a case study, thus evidencing the introduction of inherent safety features in layout design. 相似文献
