A fiber-optic vibration sensor based on polarization and phase-step interferometry is reported. Left- and right-circularly polarized light coming back from the reference and signal arms of a modified Michelson fiber interferometer is processed with an array of five linear analyzers separated angular steps of π/4 (rad) from each other. Thus, five interference patterns are acquired simultaneously and the dynamical phase retrieval problem is reduced to five-step interferometry in the time-domain. OBJECTIVES: Elevated plasma endothelin (ET)-1 levels have been described in insulin-resistant states such as syndrome X, obesity, non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus, and in some studies in essential hypertension. To investigate whether increases in circulating ET-1 to levels observed in insulin-resistant states can modulate insulin levels and/or insulin sensitivity in humans, we assessed these variables during low, non-pressor-dose ET-1 compared with placebo infusion. DESIGN: In a randomized, single blind, crossover design, 10 lean normotensive male subjects received either an intravenous infusion of subpressor doses of ET-1 dissolved in polygeline or a control infusion of polygeline only (placebo). Using dynamic assessment by the minimal model approach with the modified frequent sampling intravenous glucose tolerance test (FSIGT) the following and other parameters were measured: insulin sensitivity; acute insulin response to glucose (AIR(G)) calculated as the average of the three peak values between 2 and 5 min after injection of glucose from which the basal insulin levels were subtracted; the initial area under the curve (AUC(1-19)) from insulin values between time 0 and 19 min and the first-phase insulin secretion (phi1) from insulin kinetics parameters. RESULTS: ET-1 infusion reduced AIR(G) (to 34.85 +/- 4.27 compared with 49.3 +/- 6.9 microU/ml during placebo, P=0.017) and the acute C-peptide response to glucose (to 2.33 +/- 0.41 compared with 3.1 +/- 0.44 ng/ml, P=0.018), decreased plasma insulin levels during the FSIGT compared with placebo (analysis of variance P<0.0001) and decreased the AUC(1-19) (to 2.1 +/- 0.2 compared with 2.9 +/- 0.3 U/l per 20 min, P<0.01) while phi1 tended to be lower. S1 measured during ET-1 infusion was unaltered (11.11 +/- 1.91 x 10(-4) versus 10.88 +/- 2.11 10(-4)/min per mU per l, NS). CONCLUSIONS: These findings demonstrate that an increase in circulating ET-1 to levels observed in insulin-resistant states acutely diminishes the insulin secretory response but does not significantly modify insulin sensitivity. 相似文献

A detailed long range restriction map of the region defined by markers D6S149 and D6S193 on chromosome 6q27 has been constructed. This was achieved by YAC cloning and contig assembling of the same region. Seven YAC clones were found to span the almost 1000 Kb region flanked by the two markers which on the genetic map resulted to be 1.9 cM apart. With some of the characterized YAC clones we undertook a molecular cytogenetic analysis of 20 benign ovarian tumors. The rationale for this was the recent mapping to a region of chromosome 6q27, flanked by markers D6281 and D6S133, of a locus for the SV40-mediated immortalization of human cells (SEN6 gene). Noteworthy we found that the the D6S149-D6S193 region (comprised in the larger D6S281-D6S133 physical interval) was altered in all samples analysed adding support to the occurrence of a immortalization step in this type of tumors. 相似文献

When immersed in a disturbing electromagnetic field, electronic systems are subject to interference due to the energy injected by the external field into the system through the electronic units and, especially, through the transmission lines connecting units one another. The issue of reducing the unwanted energy injection through connecting transmission lines is addressed in this contribution from the point of view of the routing, i.e. of the disposition of the connecting lines that minimizes the injection. The problem is formulated as an optimization problem, dealt with by the simulated annealing minimization technique combined with an efficient way of computing the field coupling to the lines. Results are reported for various cases, and the relation between the characteristics of the interfering field and the efficiency of the reduction is discussed. 相似文献

The B-spline functions are used to develop recursive algorithms for the efficient implementation of two-dimensional linear digital image filters. These filters may be spatially varying. The B-splines are used in a representation of the desired point spread function. We show that this leads to recursive algorithms and hardware implementations which are more efficient than either direct spatial domain filter realizations or FFT implementations. The Z-transform is used to develop a discrete version of Duhamel's theorem. A computer architecture for B-spline image filters is proposed and a complexity analysis and comparison to other approaches is provided. 相似文献

Background and objective
The degeneration of the balance control system in the elderly and in many pathologies requires measuring the equilibrium conditions very often. In clinical practice, equilibrium control is commonly evaluated by using a force platform (stabilometric platform) in a clinical environment.In this paper, we demonstrate how a simple movement analysis system, based on a 3D video camera and a 3D real time model reconstruction of the human body, can be used to collect information usually recorded by a physical stabilometric platform.Methods
The algorithm used to reconstruct the human body model as a set of spheres is described and discussed. Moreover, experimental measurements and comparisons with data collected by a physical stabilometric platform are also reported. The measurements were collected on a set of 6 healthy subjects to whom a change in equilibrium condition was stimulated by performing an equilibrium task.Results
The experimental results showed that more than 95% of data collected by the proposed method were not significantly different from those collected by the classic platform, thus confirming the usefulness of the proposed system.Conclusions
The proposed virtual balance assessment system can be implemented at low cost (about 500$) and, for this reason, can be considered a home use medical device. On the contrary, astabilometric platform has a cost of about 10,000$ and requires periodical calibration. The proposed system does not require periodical calibration, as is necessary for stabilometric force platforms, and it is easy to use. In future, the proposed system with little integration can be used, besides being an emulator of a stabilometric platform, also to recognize and track, in real time, head, legs, arms and trunk, that is to collect information actually obtained by sophisticated optoelectronic systems. 相似文献19.
Current advancements in pervasive technologies allow users to create and share an increasing amount of whereabouts data. Thus, some rich datasets on human mobility are becoming available on the web. In this paper we extracted approximately 790,000 mobility traces from a web-based repository of GPS tracks—the Nokia Sports Tracker Service. Using data mining mechanisms, we show that this data can be analyzed to uncover daily routines and interesting schemes in the use of public spaces. We first show that our approach supports large-scale analysis of people’s whereabouts by comparing behavioral patterns across cities. Then, using Kernel Density Estimation, we present a mechanism to identify popular sport areas in individual cities. This kind of analysis allows us to highlight human-centered geographies that can support a wide range of applications ranging from location-based services to urban planning. 相似文献

A methodology is developed for planning the sensing strategy of a robotic sensor deployed for the purpose of classifying multiple fixed targets located in an obstacle-populated workspace. Existing path planning techniques are not directly applicable to robots whose primary objective is to gather sensor measurements using a bounded field of view (FOV). This paper develops a novel approximate cell-decomposition method in which obstacles, targets, sensor's platform, and FOV are represented as closed and bounded subsets of an Euclidean workspace. The method constructs a connectivity graph with observation cells that is pruned and transformed into a decision tree from which an optimal sensing strategy can be computed. The effectiveness of the optimal sensing strategies obtained by this methodology is demonstrated through a mine-hunting application. Numerical experiments show that these strategies outperform shortest path, complete coverage, random, and grid search strategies, and are applicable to nonoverpass capable robots that must avoid targets as well as obstacles. 相似文献
