The objective of this work was to evaluate the influence of osmotic agents, their concentration and temperature, on the mass transfer kinetics and mechanical properties of osmodehydrated melon cubes. Samples were immersed in a hypertonic solution of sucrose or maltose up to 8 h under controlled temperature and agitation. Water loss, sugar gain and mechanical properties were analysed throughout the process. Mass transfer kinetics was modelled according to Peleg and Fick equations. Higher water loss, lower sugar uptake and stress at rupture values more similar to fresh fruit were observed in samples treated with maltose solutions. Peleg’s model showed the best adjustment to all the experimental data, however the k1 and k2 parameters did not show a clear trend with the solution concentration or temperature increase. The effective diffusivity obtained using Fick’s equation varied from 3.93 × 10?9 to 6.45 × 10?9m2 s?1 for water loss and from 7.57 × 10?10 to 3.14 × 10?9m2 s?1 for sugar gain.  相似文献

Wide‐angle X‐ray scattering and differential scanning calorimetry measurements have been conducted on seven random copolymers of propylene with ethylene in order to study the γ phase formation as a function of the comonomer content. The lamellar morphology of the samples was also investigated by small‐angle X‐ray scattering. The content of the γ phase was found to go through a maximum with crystallization temperature and to increase with comonomer concentration, up to a point (ethylene ≥6.5 wt%) where the latter parameter became less influential. The multiple melting endotherms behaviour of the samples was studied by DSC and temperature‐controlled diffractometric techniques. The attribution of the DSC peaks to the different isotactic polypropylene polymorphs that form in these conditions was confirmed. The results obtained permitted us to ascertain that, in the experimental conditions chosen, some further formation of crystallites takes place during the quenching to room temperature after the crystallization isotherm. In this phase, the chains organize themselves in stacks with thin lamellae, forming a distinct population with respect to those formed on isothermal crystallization. The melting of the thinner lamellae determines a convergence of the two populations into just one, still retaining an organization in stacks, that gradually disappears until complete melting of the material. Manholes often contain small drops for various reasons, the most important being submergence. While this may be appropriate for subcritical flow, its effect was considered doubtful for supercritical flow. This note aims at investigating the effect of a manhole drop on the hydraulics of sewer flow. Based on systematic experimental observations, the flow pattern associated with a manhole drop was established. A distinction was also made between small and intermediate drops. Then, the main wave features were analyzed to result in expressions that contain both the upstream filling ratio and the Froude number of the approach flow. In addition, the discharge capacity was also investigated, and selected photographs show typical drop flow in combined sewer manholes. The result of the present study is evident, based on these observations, and recommendations towards future design of combined sewer manholes are also made.  相似文献

This work presents a general analysis of drive-in racks, evaluating the influence of each of their components on global stability. In this study, a full-scale test of a drive-in system was carried out. Finite element models were also developed to evaluate global structural stability and component influence on system behavior. The experimental and numerical results show that the connections and base plates have the most significant influence on the system's behavior. This influence is analyzed, an equation that predicts base plate resistance is then proposed, and its results are compared with experimental and numerical results.  相似文献

Available options to upgrade LCO to diesel fuel are: i) aromatic saturation (ASAT) ii) mild hydrocracking and iii) aromatic saturation followed by selective ring opening (SRO) of naphthenic structures. Although the above mentioned routes lead to significant product quality enhancement, they suffer from several disadvantages. Hydrocracking leads to significant yields in gasoline-range products, ASAT is characterized by a relatively high consumption of hydrogen with only limited improvement of product quality in terms of density and cetane properties, ASAT + SRO route leads to higher improvements of product quality but it requires a very high hydrogen consumption which strongly affects the economics of the process.An alternative upgrading route consists in partial polyaromatic compound saturation and selective opening of both naphthenic and benzo-naphthenic structures to produce less condensed naphthenic structures and alkyl-benzenes respectively. In this case the hydrogen needed to improve product quality at the same level, of cetane properties and density, is lower in comparison with ASAT.This paper reports the results obtained during a research program aimed at upgrading LCO via selective ring opening. The hydroconversion of a low sulfur hydrotreated LCO has been studied over iridium and platinum loaded on different supports. The results of this study indicate that the properties of products heavily depend on the characteristics of the support and the metal used. The data obtained with the Ir/amorphous silica-alumina (MSA) show the possibility to get a clear increase of CN and decrease of density in comparison with the mere aromatic saturation. The practical consequence of this result is the possibility of producing products with CN and density similar to products obtained by complete dearomatization but still containing a significant percentage of aromatic structures so allowing a consistent saving of hydrogen.  相似文献

Paraoxonase (PON) is a liver protein with hydrolase activity that is released into the blood stream. Paraoxonase may serve as an index of liver function because it is drastically reduced in chronic liver damage. Sixty-seven periparturient dairy cows were used to evaluate the relationship between plasma PON, health problems, inflammatory conditions, and liver function. Baseline plasma PON concentrations during the first 30 d in milk (DIM) were retrospectively used to group cows into quartiles. Metabolic profile, lipid metabolites (e.g., nonesterified fatty acids, β-hydroxybutyrate), inflammatory indices (haptoglobin, ceruloplasmin), low and high density lipoprotein cholesterol, vitamin A, vitamin E, reactive oxygen metabolites, total antioxidants, and PON in plasma were measured 2 wk before to 8 wk after calving. Weekly milk yield, body condition score, and all health problems were recorded. After parturition (7 DIM), cows in the lower PON group had the lowest plasma concentrations of negative acute phase proteins compared with the higher PON group for retinol binding protein (23.2 ± 2.86 vs. 36.0 ± 2.96 μg/dL of vitamin A), albumin (31.6 ± 0.73 vs. 33.9 ± 0.75 g/ L), total cholesterol (2.04 ± 0.30 vs. 2.45 ± 0.42 mmol/ L), and the highest concentrations of haptoglobin (0.67 vs. 0.24 ± 0.03 g/L; positive acute phase protein) and globulins (37.2 vs. 32.3 ± 1.4 g/L). Plasma bilirubin was highest in the cows (10.1 vs. 6.2 ± 0.6 μmol/L) in the lowest PON quartile. Plasma PON was negatively correlated with haptoglobin (r = −0.39) and bilirubin (r = −0.42) and positively correlated with retinol binding protein (r = 0.54), albumin (r = 0.38), and cholesterol (r = 0.55) fractions. A total of 82.3% of cows in the lower quartile and no cows in the upper quartile experienced serious inflammation. Lower quartile cows produced 28.1 ± 10.3 kg of milk/d; whereas upper quartile cows produced 38.3 ± 7.7 kg of milk/d during the first 30 DIM. A reduction in the ability of the liver to cope with the increased metabolic demand near parturition in dairy cows can be diagnosed using changes in baseline plasma PON.  相似文献

As the demand for energy rises fossil fuel reserves are depleted daily, increasing the interest in alternative fuels. Biodiesel is one of the best candidates in this class and its use is expected to expand rapidly throughout the world. Numerous researchers have been investigating how biodiesel affects combustion, pollutant formation and exhaust aftertreatment. There is general agreement that its combustion characteristics are similar to those of standard diesel fuel, except for a shorter ignition delay, a higher ignition temperature, and greater ignition pressure and peak heat release. Engine power output is similar with both fuels. As regards emissions, reductions in particulate matter (PM) and carbon monoxide (CO) and increases in nitrogen oxides (NOx) are described with most biodiesel blends. The latter is referred to as the ‘biodiesel NOx effect’. The vast majority of researchers who explored the effect of biodiesel did so in mechanical injection engines. They found that the primary mechanism by which biodiesel increases NOx emissions is by an inadvertent advance in the start of injection timing, caused by a higher modulus and viscosity. However, more recent studies show that NOx emissions also increase in biodiesel-fuelled common rail engines, and that in some cases they actually decrease in engines with mechanically controlled fuel injection systems. This cannot be explained solely by differences in compressibility and remains an open question. The present study provides a contribution to the discussion in this field by describing a new method to evaluate the injection advance in engines with mechanically controlled pumps. The experimental data show that the advances in the start of injection timing, using biodiesel rather than mineral diesel, are smaller than those calculated with standard methods and may even not occur at all, depending on injection system design. In addition, they demonstrate that, contrary to common belief, injection pressure does not always increase when using biodiesel. These data may help explain why some researchers have found similar or even reduced NOx emission also with mechanical injection systems.  相似文献
