A total of 16 543 artificial ponds were inventoried. Ninety‐one per cent of the ponds were classified as for farming use. Generally, the fraction of farm land converted to pond structures was close to that predicted from the average annual precipitation in the region. However, in several areas, this fraction was remarkably higher than the value predicted, probably due to excessive groundwater extraction. Overall, the naturalisation stage of ponds was poor. However, ponds sited on natural substrate basins had more structured‐marginal vegetation, compared with ponds of artificial substrate basins. Furthermore, other factors related to pond management might seriously limit their naturalisation stage. Despite the high abundance of ponds in Andalusia, our results suggest that, in order to improve the potential for biodiversity conservation in these environments, substantial structural and management changes are required.  相似文献

The occurrence of the polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDDs/PCDFs) was studied in four different bivalve species (mussels, oysters, carpetshells, and cupped oysters) collected in three different sampling stations at the Spanish Coast from 1994 onward. The analysis revealed an unexpected isomer distribution of chlorosubstituted dioxins and furans characterized by a complex mixture of TCDF and TCDD, including both toxic and nontoxic isomers and highly chlorinated congeners, mainly OCDD. Principal component analysis revealed similarities between identical species collected from the different sites. A dioxin fingerprint could be easily distinguished between bivalve species collected in the same sampling point. The dioxin fingerprint found in filter-feeders was also compared to other marine species showing remarkable differences. Due to the habits of the bivalve species, sediment samples were also analyzed within this study. No similarities in the pattern were found for both matrices, the sediments and the bivalves. In the absence of a potential source of these toxicants affecting these species the hypothesis of a specific metabolism of the bivalves is suggested. No values higher than 4 pg WHO-TEQ/g whole weight were determined, and all samples met the current limit proposed by European Regulations. Independently of the bivalve species considered, the major contribution to the total WHO-TEQ comes from 2,3,7,8-TCDF and 2,3,4,7,8-PeCDF, at about the same levels of the 2,3,7,8-TCDD and 1,2,3,7,8-PCDD.  相似文献

This study was conducted on four freshwater interdune ponds (Jacaré; Grande; Duna; Banho) located on Curupu Island within the municipality of Raposa (Maranhão State, Brazil). It focused on a diagnosis of the physical and chemical characteristics of the water and sediment in these water bodies, while at the same time obtaining basic data and information that could support the adoption of conservation strategies for the rational use of these ecosystems. Seasonal sampling of water from these ponds was conducted during the months of August, September and November 2008 and 2009 (dry period) and February, May, July 2009 and 2010 (rainy period), for the purpose of obtaining data on temperature, pH, electrical conductivity and dissolved oxygen, ammonium (NH4), nitrite (NO2), nitrate (NO3) and phosphate ion (PO4) concentrations in the pond water. Sediment sampling also was carried out to determine particle size, carbon, organic matter and phosphorus content. A large variation in most variables, especially the ammonia (NH4), nitrate (NO3) and phosphate (PO4) concentrations, was observed during the study period. The pH values indicated the water in the ponds was mostly alkaline. Based on the average nitrate concentrations (137 μg L?1 during the dry period; 123 μg L?1 during the rainy period), the ponds exhibited primarily eutrophic conditions. The sediment samples exhibited a predominance of fine sand with low carbon and organic matter content, able to be classified by their mineral nature. Due to the fragile nature of the studied ecosystems, disciplinary control of grazing activities and tourism in the area is highly recommended, along with adoption of a basic sanitation infrastructure in the community for the purpose of rational and sustainable use of this ecosystem.  相似文献

Time‐staggered combination chemotherapy strategies show immense potential in cell culture systems, but fail to successfully translate clinically due to different routes of administration and disparate formulation parameters that preclude a specific order of drug presentation. A novel platform consisting of drug‐containing PLGA polymer nanoparticles, stably fashioned with a shell composed of drug complexed with cationic cyclodextrin, capable of releasing drugs time‐ and sequence‐specifically within tumors is designed. Morphological examination of nanoparticles measuring 150 nm highlight stable and distinct compartmentalization of model drugs, rhodamine and bodipy, within the core and shell, respectively. Sequential release is observed in vitro, owing to cyclodextrin shell displacement and subsequent sustained release of core‐loaded drug, kinetics preserved in breast cancer cells following internalization. Importantly, time‐staggered release is corroborated in a murine breast cancer model following intravenous administration. Precise control of drug release order, site‐specifically, potentially opens novel avenues in polychemotherapy for synergy and chemosensitization strategies.  相似文献

Two studies examined whether brief access to sucrose solutions engages food-entrainable rhythms when pitted against a light-dark cycle. In Experiment 1, 32% sucrose was given once daily for 5-6 min at Zeitgeber Time 4 (ZT 4) for 17-18 days to 8 food-deprived and 8 ad-lib-fed rats. Chow was provided at ZT 16. Temperature, wheel running, activity, and corticosterone (B) anticipated sucrose only in food-deprived rats. Ad-lib rats were similar to controls. In Experiment 2, 32% sucrose was presented at ZT 4 for 5 or 10 min for 17 days to food-deprived rats. Chow was given at ZT 12. Exogenous cues were minimized. Both groups showed anticipation of sucrose, whereas room controls did not. After a shift to 4% sucrose for 8 days, the 10-min group showed signs of damping of these rhythms, whereas the 5-min group did not. OBJECTIVES: To study the clinical manifestations of 86 patients with Mediterranean Boutonneuse Fever who were admitted in a University General Hospital. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Between 1986 and 1994 we studied retrospectively the clinical manifestations, evolution and complications of 86 patients with Mediterranean Boutonneuse Fever. Diagnosis was based on clinical and serological findings. RESULTS: We studied a total of 86 patients (64 males; 22 females) with a mean age of 55 years. 88% of cases were diagnosed between June and September, and 89% of them had contact with dogs. 53% of patients had an underlying disease. All patients presented with fever and a generalized erythematous rash. 60% of patients had a initial lesion (tache noire) especially in legs. All patients were treated with doxicycline during one week. 22% of patients had complications such as renal failure, respiratory failure, gastrointestinal bleeding and stroke. Old patients and those with underlying disease had severe complications with a higher significant frequency. No patients died. CONCLUSIONS: 22% of patients with Mediterranean Boutonneuse Fever, especially those with advanced age or underlying disease, who were admitted in the Hospital had severe complications.  相似文献

Several spectroscopic methods have been used to study the structure of beta-lactoglobulin B at pH 2.1 in the presence of 8M urea. Fluorescence and polarization of fluorescence spectroscopy measurements indicate that the two tryptophanyl residues of the protein are exposed to the solvent in the denatured state. CD in the far-UV indicates that the amount of secondary structure in the denatured state is comparable to that found in the native state, whereas the CD spectrum in the near-UV shows that the tertiary structure is not completely disordered. The results of one-dimensional 1H NMR spectroscopy show that some local non-random structure is maintained in the denatured state, but most of the polypeptide chain has an extended non-globular conformation under the conditions of the present experiments. This conclusion is reinforced by the results of two-dimensional 1H NMR conducted on denatured samples of beta-lactoglobulin B. The study of states with intermediate levels of order will aid the understanding of how the native structure of beta-lactoglobulin B is organised during the refolding pathways.  相似文献

The seed gum from Prosopis juliflora is a galactomannan polysaccharide, which is located in the endosperm. Regarding P. juliflora galactomannan structural studies, there are reports on galactose substitutional pattern, but supporting data by NMR correlation studies are scarce. In this work, a procedure to obtain P. juliflora gum without contamination was employed and the gum was studied by NMR spectroscopy. Overall, results show that mesquite seed has a 1.1:1 Man/Gal ratio.  相似文献

Corn (maize), the main source of starch and calories in the Mexican diet, is consumed mainly as tortillas , which have a short shelf-life. A fungal α-amylase blend (10μU g−1) was added during hydration of maize flour to produce masa , and modified the starch during tortilla cooking up to the denaturating temperature. Control and treated tortillas , fresh and staled by storage at −12°C and by freeze-thaw cycles, were compared for amounts of retrograded starch, flexibility, rheological properties and by preference ranking by a panel of 75 judges. Results showed significant improvements in delayed staling and, by implication, extended shelf-life. The process was regarded as financially viable on a commercial scale.  相似文献

The Ni(2+) accumulation in batch mode from diluted solutions by gel beads of gellan gum (GG), alginate, kappa-carrageenan, agar, agarose, silica gel, polyacrylamide and two mixtures of GG+agar was investigated. All polymeric materials studied accumulated Ni(2+), but gel beads of GG were stable, easily obtainable and showed the highest Ni(2+) accumulation. The pH of the Ni(2+) solution was not critical for Ni(2+) accumulation. Accumulation of metals Cu(2+), Co(2+), Ni(2+), Pb(2+), Cd(2+) and Zn(2+) by GG gel beads reached the equilibrium after 24h. The removal of Pb(2+) and Cu(2+) from the aqueous solution was very efficient, with maximum metal uptake (q(max)) of 0.85 and 0.75 mmol/g dw GG, respectively. The general q(max) sequence was Pb>Cu>Ni approximately Zn=Co>Cd. In an equimolar metal mixture sorption experiment a clear reduction in accumulation was observed, except for Pb(2+) (30%). Heavy metals were desorbed with 100mM sodium citrate.  相似文献
