The main objective of this paper is to explore the potential application of electromagnetic waves to evaluate the effect of contaminant removal in granular soils. Thus, various specimens of saturated silica sand were prepared using paraffin oil and lubricant oil as contaminants. Four flushing fluids were used to remove the contaminants from sand columns: Deionized water, water-detergent, water-detergent-alcohol solution, and water vapor. Dielectric permittivity was measured at different stages of the removal process at the frequency from 20?MHz?to?1.3?GHz. The measured permittivity was compared with that determined for clean and fully contaminated specimens. A theoretical mixture formula was calibrated and implemented to estimate the volume fraction of contaminant present in the pore fluid. It is concluded in this work that dielectric parameters reflect the contamination level of the soil for the nonpolar organic compounds used here. Measurement of permittivity allows us to determine that the inclusion of alcohol and detergent in the displacing fluid improved the removal efficiency. However, water vapor was the most efficient removal agent.  相似文献

Artists are making pigmented handmade papers in increasing numbers to be certain that the color of the paper is lightfast. The lightfastness of handmade papers colored with commonly used pigments was tested. Three methods were used: (1) exposure to a measured 1260 MJ/m2 outdoors to the sun under glass; (2) exposure in the laboratory to daylight fluorescent lamps; and (3) exposure in a window monitored by Blue Wools. Burnt umber and the yellow and red iron oxides were lightfast as expected. Excellent, or sufficiently lightfast, were Pigment Yellow 65 and the lightfast form of Pigment Yellow 74, the phthalocyanine blue and green, ultramarine blue, and the Quinacridone reds if used in sufficiem strength. If the Quinacridones were weaker they were classified as Good in lightfastness along with Pigment Yellow 97. Classified as Fair were the higher-strength form of Pigment Yellow 74 and the naphthol red with AS-D coupling. Unsatisfactory, or fugitive, were the lithol and toluidine reds, weaker use of the higher-strength form of Pigment Yellow 74, and an unidentified organic yellow pigment.  相似文献

Radicals resulting from the 7-radiolysis at 77 K of neat tripalmitin and neat dipalmitoyl phosphatidylethanolamine were investigated by electron spin resonance spectroscopy (ESR). Analyses of the spectra of these complex lipids were aided by ESR studies of their components phosphorylethanolamine, palmitic acid and hexa-decane. Concentrations of various radicals were followed as a func-tion of temperature after γ-irradiation at 77 K. Both tripalmitin and dipalmitoyl phosphatidylethanolamine show anion radicals formed by electron addition to the ester groups and aliphatic side-chain radicals (-CH2-CH-CH2-) which are thought to be the result of deprotonation of the original positive hole. Computer analyses of the spectra as the temperature increases show loss of the anion radicals with an increase in a new radical produced by the abstrac-tion of a hydrogen atom from the α carbon on an acyl side chain. In the case of dipalmitoyl phosphatidylethanolamine, a radical of the phosphorylethanolamine portion of the molecule is detected as an intermediate. Mechanisms for the formation and decay of the free radical intermediates are discussed.  相似文献

Different amounts of hydrophobically modified ethoxylated urethane-based thickener (HEUR) were added to improve the rheology of waterborne polyurethane adhesives. The thickened solid adhesive films were thermally annealed and characterised by IR spectroscopy, plate–plate rheology, dynamic mechanical thermal analysis (DMTA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Hydrogen bonds played a key role in the thickening mechanism of polyurethane dispersions containing urethane-based thickener, along with ionic adsorption and micelles formation between hydrophobic groups. The adhesion properties were measured from T-peel test of leather/polyurethane adhesive/vulcanised styrene-butadiene rubber joints. Optimal results were obtained when water in the waterborne polyurethane adhesive (just before joint formation) was removed under open air, while forced air drying impeded the complete removal of water. On the other hand, the thermal annealing did not greatly affect the rheological and thermal properties of the thickened polyurethanes.  相似文献

Liver fibrosis is a complex process associated to most types of chronic liver disease, which is characterized by a disturbance of hepatic tissue architecture and the excessive accumulation of extracellular matrix. Resolvin E1 (RvE1) is a representative member of the eicosapentaenoic omega-3 lipid derivatives, and is a drug candidate of the growing family of endogenous resolvins. Considering the aforementioned, the main objective of this study was to analyze the hepatoprotective effect of RvE1 in a rat model of liver fibrosis. Male Sprague-Dawley rats received diethylnitrosamine (DEN, 70 mg/mg body weight intraperitoneally (i.p)) as an inductor of liver fibrosis once weekly and RvE1(100 ng/body weight i.p) twice weekly for four weeks. RvE1 suppressed the alterations induced by DEN, normalizing the levels of alanine aminotransferase (ALT), albumin, and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), and ameliorated DEN injury by decreasing the architecture distortion, inflammatory infiltration, necrotic areas, and microsteatosis. RvE1 also limited DEN-induced proliferation through a decrease in Ki67-positive cells and cyclin D1 protein expression, which is related to an increase of the levels of cleaved caspase-3. Interestingly, we found that RvE1 promotes higher nuclear translocation of nuclear factor κB (NF-κB)p65 than DEN. RvE1 also increased the levels of nuclear the nuclear factor erythroid 2–related factor 2 (Nrf2), but with no antioxidant effect, measured as an increase in glutathione disulfide (GSSG) and a decrease in the ratio of glutathione (GSH)/GSSG. Taken together, these results suggest that RvE1 modulates the fibrogenesis, steatosis, and cell proliferation in a model of DEN induced fibrosis.  相似文献

Obesity is a risk factor for Alzheimer’s disease (AD), but underlying mechanisms are not clear. We analyzed peripheral clearance of amyloid β (Aβ) in overweight mice because its systemic elimination may impact brain Aβ load, a major landmark of AD pathology. We also analyzed whether circulating insulin-like growth factor I (IGF-I) intervenes in the effects of overweight as this growth factor modulates brain Aβ clearance and is increased in the serum of overweight mice. Overweight mice showed increased Aβ accumulation by the liver, the major site of elimination of systemic Aβ, but unaltered brain Aβ levels. We also found that Aβ accumulation by hepatocytes is stimulated by IGF-I, and that mice with low serum IGF-I levels show reduced liver Aβ accumulation—ameliorated by IGF-I administration, and unchanged brain Aβ levels. In the brain, IGF-I favored the association of its receptor (IGF-IR) with the Aβ precursor protein (APP), and at the same time, stimulated non-amyloidogenic processing of APP in astrocytes, as indicated by an increased sAPPα/sAPPβ ratio after IGF-I treatment. Since serum IGF-I enters into the brain in an activity-dependent manner, we analyzed in overweight mice the effect of brain activation by environmental enrichment (EE) on brain IGF-IR phosphorylation and its association to APP, as a readout of IGF-I activity. After EE, significantly reduced brain IGF-IR phosphorylation and APP/IGF-IR association were found in overweight mice as compared to lean controls. Collectively, these results indicate that a high-fat diet influences peripheral clearance of Aβ without affecting brain Aβ load. Increased serum IGF-I likely contributes to enhanced peripheral Aβ clearance in overweight mice, without affecting brain Aβ load probably because its brain entrance is reduced.  相似文献

The effect of oil droplet size (ODS) on the oxidative stability (OS) of dried microencapsulated oils has been scarcely studied, and results are contradictory. A few studies have shown increased OS when the ODS was reduced and this was attributed to a decrease in the surface oil content (SOC). Yet, in such studies, only the total oil fraction was evaluated. In the present work, the free (FO) and encapsulated oil (EO) fractions of freeze-dried microencapsulated sunflower oil were analysed to study the effect of changes in the ODS by using different homogenisation pressure (15 or 70 MPa) in the emulsification step. The OS of both the free and encapsulated fractions increased when the ODS was significantly reduced in two samples with different encapsulation matrix, namely caseinate/lactose and maltodextrin/sucrose/gelatine. A reduction in the SOC would explain the increased stability of the FO, but not that of the EO. An additional protective role of the interfacial film could have been involved. In conclusion, if the encapsulation matrix and the interfacial region are effective as oxygen barriers, a reduction in the ODS of the parent emulsion by an increase in the homogenisation pressure will result in capsules more stable against lipid oxidation.  相似文献

The first superconvergent hybridisable discontinuous Galerkin method for linear elastic problems capable of using the same degree of approximation for both the primal and mixed variables is presented. The key feature of the method is the strong imposition of the symmetry of the stress tensor by means of the well known and extensively used Voigt notation, circumventing the use of complex mathematical concepts to enforce the symmetry of the stress tensor either weakly or strongly. A novel procedure to construct element by element a superconvergent postprocessed displacement is proposed. Contrary to other hybridisable discontinuous Galerkin formulations, the methodology proposed here is able to produce a superconvergent displacement field for low‐order approximations. The resulting method is robust and locking‐free in the nearly incompressible limit. An extensive set of numerical examples is utilised to provide evidence of the optimality of the method and its superconvergent properties in two and three dimensions and for different element types.  相似文献

Performance of templated mesoporous carbons in supercapacitors   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
By analogy with other types of carbons, templated mesoporous carbons (TMCs) can be used as supercapacitors. Their contribution arises essentially from the double layer capacity formed on their surface, which corresponds to 0.14 F m−2 in aqueous electrolytes such as H2SO4 and KOH and 0.06 F m−2 for the aprotic medium (C2H5)4NBF4 in CH3CN. In the case of a series of 27 TMCs, it appears that the effective surface area determined by independent techniques can be as high as 1500-1600 m2 g−1, and therefore exceeds the value obtained for many activated carbons (typically 900-1300 m2 g−1). On the other hand, the relatively low amount of surface oxygen in the present TMCs, as opposed to activated carbons, reduces the contribution of pseudo-capacitance effects and limits the gravimetric capacitance to 200-220 F g−1 for aqueous electrolytes. In the case of non-aqueous electrolyte, it rarely exceeds 100 F g−1.It is also shown that the average mesopore diameter of these TMCs does not improve significantly the ionic mobility compared with typical activated carbons of pore-widths above 1.0-1.3 nm.This study suggests that activated carbons remain the more promising candidates for supercapacitors with high performances.  相似文献
