Three experiments investigating the role of boredom as a limiting condition on R. B. Zajonc's (1968) mere exposure effect are described. In Experiment 1, non-boredom-prone Ss showed significant exposure effects for Welsh figure stimuli, whereas boredom-prone Ss showed no exposure effects at all for these stimuli. In Experiments 2 and 3, complex stimuli (line-drawn optical illusions) produced significantly stronger exposure effects than relatively simple stimuli (Welsh figures). The difference in affect ratings for optical illusion vs. Welsh figure stimuli was greater when Ss rated both types of stimuli (Experiment 2) than when Ss rated only 1 type of stimulus (Experiment 3). Furthermore, Welsh figures showed a decline in affect ratings with increasing exposure frequency in Experiment 2 and an increase in affect ratings with increasing exposure frequency in Experiment 3, suggesting that stimulus "contrast" effects are important in determining affect judgments in mere exposure experiments. Results support the role of boredom as a limiting condition on the mere exposure effect and are consistent with a 2-factor learning-satiation model of the exposure effect. Studies were performed with rats to examine the effects of single, as well as repetitive oral diazepam (DZP) pretreatment on biliary sulfobromophthalein (BSP) excretion rates and on bile flow parameters. One-hour pretreatment of male rats with 150 mg/kg of DZP resulted in about a one-third reduction in the peak biliary excretion rate of BSP (60 mg/kg, iv) and this was associated with a decrease in relative proportions of conjugated BSP in bile. The biliary excretion of preconjugated BSP was unaffected. BSP hepatic uptake and storage were apparently unaffected. In vitro DZP markedly inhibited BSP conjugating activity. In contrast to the above results, when BSP excretion was examined 1 h after the last of five daily oral doses of DZP (150 mg kg-1 day-1), no change in the peak elimination rate of this dye was evident. However, bile flow rates were higher in DZP-treated rats than in controls. When rats were examined 24 h after the last of five daily oral doses of DZP (150 mg/kg), the choleretic response persisted. Further studies showed that the repetitive DZP pretreatment enhanced the bile salt-independent mechanisms of bile formation.  相似文献

Lung volumes and quasi-static deflation volume-pressure relationships were measured in male golden hamsters anesthetized with pentobarbital. Volume was measured with a pressure plethysmograph, and pleural pressure was estimated by the use of a water-filled esophageal catheter. Mean body weight +/- SE was 122.3 +/-3.0 g, mean lung weight was 0.74 +/- 0.2 g or about 0.6% of body weight. Mean lung volume at 25 cmH2O transpulmonary pressure (TLC25) was 7.2 +/- 0.14 ml, 9.78 +/- 0.17 ml/g lung weight or 5.92 +/- 0.06 ml/100 g body weight. Mean functional residual capacity was 2.4 +/- 0.06 ml or 33.3% of TLC25. Mean vital capacity was 5.2 +/- 0.13 ml. Mean quasi-static compliance of lung was 0.63 +/- 0.03 ml/cmH2O. Chord compliance of chest wall between lung volumes of 1 and 4 ml above RV was 3.39 +/- 0.53 ml/cmH2O. At FRC, the chest wall recoiled inward, so that pleural pressure was positive (1.4 +/- 0.13 cmH2O) and the lung was resisting further collapse. The slope of the lung's deflation volume-pressure curve changed at FRC, ERV was small (0.36 +/- 0.03 ml), and RV was determined by complete airway closure. Thus the mechanisms determining FRC are unusual and include an influence of airway closure.  相似文献

The distribution and mobility of concanavalin A (Con A) and Ricinus communis agglutinin (RCA) receptors (binding sites) on the external surfaces of Purkinje, hippocampal pyramidal, and granule cells and their attached boutons were studied using ferritin-lectin conjugates. Dendritic fields of these cells were isolated by microdissection and gently homogenized. Cell fragments and pre- and postsynaptic membranes were labeled with the ferritin-lectin conjugates at a variety of temperatures, and the distribution of lectin receptors was determined by electron microscopy. Both classes of these lectin receptors were concentrated at nearly all open and partially open postsynaptic junctional membranes of asymmetric-type synapses on all three neuron types. Con A receptors were most concentrated at the junctional membrane region, indicating that the mature neuron has a specialized nonrandom organization of carbohydrates on its outer surface. Lectin receptors located on postsynaptic junctional membranes appeared to be restricted in their mobility compared to similar classes of receptors on extrajunctional membrane regions. Labeling with ferritin-RCA and -Con A at 37 degrees C produced clustering of lectin receptors on nonjunctional surfaces; however, Con A and RCA receptors retained their nonrandom topographic distribution on the postsynaptic junctional surface. The restricted mobility of lectin receptors was an inherent property of the postsynaptic membrane since the presynaptic membrane was absent. It is proposed that structures in the postsynaptic density may be transmembrane-linked to postsynaptic receptors and thereby determine topographic distribution and limit diffusion of specialized synaptic molecules. Speicalized receptor displays may play an important role in the formation and maintenance of specific synaptic contacts.  相似文献

Male mice treated with nicotine hydrochloride either acutely (5 mg/kg i.p.) or subchronically (5 mg/kg i.p. daily for 3 weeks; 25 mg/liter in drinking water for 2-3 months) showed no evidence of hepatic dysfunction, as measured by serum glutamic-pyruvic transaminase or serum alkaline phosphatase activities. Neither acute nor subchronic administration modified the hepatotoxic response to a potent hepatotoxin (carbon tetrachloride), nor that of less potent hepatotoxins chloroform or 1, 1, 1-trichloroethane, nor was the cholestatic effect of alpha-naphthylisothiocyanate modified.  相似文献
